he had issues in his home life, mostly with his father berating him. Later on it seems apparent his mother is cheating
he was initially going to public school, but owing to financial difficulties with his family, had to attend a state school where he was an outsider and stood out
the show then gives us almost no information on what happens after finishing uni and jez moving in, a period of about nine years. The only information we can gather from the series is that he has had virtually no interaction with women, seemingly no relationships, no friends outside of Jeremy, and owning some fantasy magazine stuff though he later scoffs at that sort of stuff when initially becoming friends with Gerard
