It had a lot of elements in it that resonated with women. I don't know any guys that liked it for any other reason than women liked it and the guys were trying to get laid by being topical.

I liked the less obvious scares, the hidden ghost were a particularly creepy trick. Granted you gotta endure quite a bit of family bickering and flashbacks to enjoy them.

Those themes are nice and all, but I just didn't like anyone. I didn't feel like it provided me with anyone relatable or likeable. The horrors felt like they were taken right out of a 2010 creepypasta not surprising since it was written by a literal redditor. I had absolutely no interest in continuing it. Maybe it got better, I dunno, but it failed to hook me in.

Hereditary was good until the hamfisted ending. I'm more of a dread and suggestion kid of guy. I don't think you need to see anything to feel terror, although you can see a monster or something, you shouldn't see much of it because your imagination running on all cylinders will produce something worse than anything quantifiable. There's a 1930s ghost story called 'A Warning to the Curious' by M.R. James that gives me genuine chills and you never once see the ghost, but it's implied it's literally in every single scene of the story, just out of sight. There's things described around it that give you an idea of what it's like, but you never see it. Movies like The Blair Witch Project creep me out in their escalation and the immersion of a handheld camera, the scene where they're running through the forest at night and Heather's screaming 'what the fuck is that' actually bothers me because she sees something awful right there, and you might see it any second. 28 Days Later is another because of it's bleakness, the immediate, grimy and brutal nature of it bothers me.

The book is fucking garbage though, who gives a shit. The only genuinely creepy parts are represented in the show, and the only thing to be gained from reading the book is a realization that women were even more annoying and retarded back in the 40s/50s than they are currently.

I absolutely hated the first episode and almost dropped it, felt nusoi as fuck. You should keep watching until at least ep 5, or watch it as a standalone, and if it doesnt interest you then do drop it.

It was good. Had some creepy moments. The ending did suck. Idk why they went with that. But overall i enjoyed it.
