I think this is the real problem i would be fine if he dosen't like 5th Element but he dosen't articulate why he dosen't like it well.

The movie is fine but I'm not into it so much that I get offended when someone doesn't get or care for it. James is a bit of a simpleton who doesn't do much outside of a few specific things so he has a decent knowledge of retro games and somewhat decent knowledge about horrors. That's it.

There was some pretty badass world building in Fifth Element that when paired alongside a pretty straightforward action movie made for a pretty cool ride.

Trying to pick it apart to find a deeper meaning is about as stupid as picking apart Die Hard.

He's right. The 5th Element is all style and no substance. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is unironically a much better movie and that's really saying something.
