>A modern-day renaissance man, Schaub is a former footballer, retired MMA fighter and current podcast host. Now, he adds another achievement to his resume. He takes to the stage to tell his tales in his first-ever stand-up comedy special
So, what did you guys think of the best comedy special in the last decade?
>A modern-day renaissance man, Schaub is a former footballer, retired MMA fighter and current podcast host. Now, he adds another achievement to his resume. He takes to the stage to tell his tales in his first-ever stand-up comedy special
Brendan Schaub is a former UFC/MMA heavyweight fighter who was pretty good but not good enough to be really elite. He's friends with Joe Rogan, a UFC commentator/podcaster who convinced him to retire and go into podcasting/comedy after humiliating him on a livestream by explaining that he would never be a champion and that he should give up. The title of the standup special, "you'd be surprised" comes from this exchange on Rogan's podcast: >Rogan: What do you think would happen if you fought a top 5 guy? >Schaub: I think people would be surprised >Rogan: You'd be surprised, they would fuck you up
Jason King
Who is Brendan Schaub?
Glad you asked!
Brendan Schaub is the greatest fighter of all time. He dominated the heavyweight division before branching out to conquer the entertainment world as well. He used to be known as "The Hybrid" because he totally encompasses what it means to be a mixed martial artist. Early in his career he relied on his raw athleticism, but he refined his technique as he progressed as a fighter. Some highlights are when he picked up a clean knockout of the legend Mirko Cro Cop and actually landed the first D'Arce choke in heavyweight history on Matt Mitrione. I could go on for days about Schaubs record as a fighter, but I think it really speaks for itself.
I'm sure you've heard of his podcast before, The Fighter and the Kid (tfatk.com/). TFATK really showcases Brendan's whit and charisma and there is also this little goober named Bryan Callen (the kid). Bryan acts as the foil to Schaub. The show features witty banter and fantastic interviews. Big Brown really creates a relaxed environment and puts his guests at ease. The interviews are like conversations between childhood friends catching up. If you need to find the latest episode, you can always check the top of the iTunes chart ;)
I can't he but be inspired by the man. If you want to know anymore feel free to ask. We all love him around here!
The IMDB comments are the funniest part about that special. Remember when specials were... special, and it wasn't some hack that decided he wanted to do what all his buddies have been doing for years.

>have a chance to watch this douchebag realize his failure as a comic >instead flood the IMDB with inside podcast references so he can claim it was just "haters" "trolls" or fans "making jokes" Yeah. Good job.
Cameron Long
>tfw you trick your friend into being a worse comedian than you so that you are no longer the worst comedian of all time
>Brendan Schaub is a former UFC/MMA heavyweight fighter who was pretty good but not good enough to be really elite He was never good

The criterion is gonna be whether people find him funny without knowing the Rogan connection or lore. If anyone knows anyone who's seen this without that knowledge, mention how it went. Otherwise this is just another "Brendan Schaub is a weenie" thread.
Nicholas Perry
>renaissance man >athlete and comedian That's not what it means
Thomas Moore
This I don't get. I watched some Theo Von Schaub podcast and they would t to riff and come up with funny insults and one liners and its embarrassingly unfunny. Both of them suck but Schuab is much much worse.
Juan Mitchell
>Theo: You look like a big orangutan with his ears glued shut just screaming >Brendan: *can't stop laughing* ya well you look like joe dirt

D'elia on Fighter and the Kid is always hilarious
Zachary Hill
>You look like a big orangutan with his ears glued shut just screaming That's funny.
What a liar, this is how the exchange actually went >Rogan: How do you think you would do against Cain Velasquez in a straight grappling match? >Schaub: I think you'd be surprised. >Rogan: I think you'd be surprised. I think he'd fuck you up.
Aiden Clark
>say dark arts 100 times >act like a shithead even while pretending you're actually a good person >80 IQs flock to listen to your insight
Ian Sanchez
That's because Callen and D'elia are actually comedians. Check out 10 minute podcast if you haven't already.
I'm actually very interested in hearing this. People constantly say that Schaub only got his comedy gig because of Joe Rogan, but he's never released any material until now so it was impossible to know for sure.
I definitely won't be impressed if he's just ripping off mid 2000s comedy movie jokes like he does in his podcasts.
Juan Gray
He's a retard that's mad the entirety of Yea Forums hates him, including Yea Forums (because he's a low iq shit fighter), so he has his criminal friend spam these advertising posts in spite.
the laugh is clearly fake right? it's totally a laugh track
John Perez
i didnt like delia at first, cus his daddys a movie producer or some shit, but hes actually funny af.
Asher Bailey
he makes the ten min podcast work and the the dynamic w/ callen, i just dont know why he doesn't double down on that persona for standup
Robert Hernandez
>modern-day renaissance man What does this even mean nowadays, when it's used in the same context as "former footballer, retired MMA fighter and current podcast host"?
Christopher Hall
"I think you'd be surprised" is the perfect name for his special, Joe needs to give him that talk again.
Jace Bailey
I think his hook ups were just the fact he hung around the comedy world because of Callen and Rogan but had the audience from the start from his TFATK and MMA career. I've heard rumors that other comedians like Ari didn't like this and even hold it against him because he didn't mature as a comedian like him and generations before him had to where they were performing for literally nobody middle of the night for little to no money which forced you to get good and be humble and so on.
The entire Joe Rogan circle of friends suck so Schaub being bad isn't even a surprise. Joe has a good podcast but I think his stand up is horrible and he's ridiculously pretentious over it. Joey Diaz isn't funny and is only popular now because of Joe constantly pimping him out. Bryan Callen is a nice guy but his stand up isn't funny. Schaub is a douche who just steals jokes from movies he watched. Ari Shafirr is a miserable douche who is the absence of funny. To make it even worse they all love to sit around and jerk each other off about how important they are and how hard comedy is.
Theo Von needs to get away from these goofs before he gets infected.
Ian Johnson
>him and generations before him To be fair, right now most comics still have to. Schaub has been fast-tracked. He's one of those celebrities who enter stand-up and treat it like a "personal appearance" that Rogan has mocked in the past.
Nolan Walker
Joey Diaz is funny. I didn't think he would be because I expected him to just be in the same mode as his podcast appearances, but his stand-up is incredibly crafted, I couldn't believe the structures when I first heard him. He works harder than any of those guys on it. You can't tell what's written and what's improvised, and it all ties together, whatever length he's working at.
Elijah Peterson
there's nothing worse than a "comedian" who just tells stories on stage
Colton Richardson
Rifle Raf is unironically hilarious, he had some pretty good sketches on YouTube. Hes a pretty good actor too, hes doing great maintaining that persona for so many years
Jason Anderson
Tom Segura is alright, but I find him and his wife's podcast quite unfunny, they just rehash the same dorky jokes all the time and depend on le ebin inside jokes too much
Xavier Johnson
My top 5? Herzog, Musk, Basquiat, Inoue and Schaub!
Joey Diaz is likable if nothing else. I enjoy listening to his stories, even if they're lies.
Robert Collins
His story about trying to rob a gay guy and getting karate kicked is hilarious.
John Miller
This guy is Rogan jr, he pontificates and talks about his stand up with so much fucking reverence that when you finally end up giving it a chance it's just embarassingly shit.
The fact that he at some point decided that he's also an entertainment industry business guru visionary is even more stupid. He actually thinks that discovering that people would rather watch shit for free on youtube than subscribing to cable is a revolutionary revelation in fucking 2019.
Joe acts so pretentious about his comedy, talking about how hard it is to craft a joke and make it perfect. Then you actually listen to his work and it's just a bunch of dick and fart jokes.
Juan James
This, despite his dogshit appearances on podcasts he is the only member of the troupe that actually seems to have studied and fucking UNDERSTOOD what being a stand up is, the other hunk of retards are only spinning inside out without ever evolving.
Too bad he can't seem to deliver in filmed form b ecause whenever i've seen him live it's been great the netflix 30 minutes stuff he released recently doesn't do it justice.
I saw him at one of those comedy clubs in LA a few years ago. Laugh factory maybe. The ones with all the signatures outside. Anyway, he went on after Lex Luther from Smallville, this French guy they say is like Seinfeld, and before Dane Cook. Theo was awful. Was embarrassing how bad he was bombing. That being said, he seems 9000x funnier now when he is on a pod. He may of gotten better or he maybe one of those comedians who are funny, but not for standup. Like Rogan, Jim Norton.
