Those who claim the Finger Poke of Doom killed WCW have been saturated with a narrative for so long that is counter to the facts they actually believe it. FPOD killing WCW is one of biggest misconceptions that has plagued the IWC for years. It wasn't until second quarter of 99, that WCW was in full business collapse mode & never recovered.
To simple minded morons the angle was just a Finger Poke but to people who actually have product knowledge; it was also an elaborate show long storyline, the reuniting of The Outsiders, the merger of nWo B&W & nWo Wolfpac, the crowning of a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, the heel turns of Kevin Nash & Lex Luger & one of the best professional wrestling beatdowns I have ever witnessed, in which Goldberg was beaten, handcuffed, tasered & tagged. With almost 40,000 fans in attendance at the Georgia Dome that night, the atmosphere was incredible.
While some of the following events described may not have played out, the initial intent was there & any criticism should be attributed to the booking after the FPOD not the FPOD itself. Prior to the FPOD WCW had already been losing in the ratings war against the WWF for 9 weeks. They needed to come up with something big if they were to try & claw some momentum back.
Deadie Cuckuerrero was anally raped by gang of black men who then brapped in his face during Summer of 89. His hole was ravaged and Benoit watched Guerrero cry as he shat out the cum out of his ass. It was leaked to dirtsheets but Meltzer refused to report it out of respect.

What killed WCW was holding down actually up and coming talent so they could keep Has beens like flair, nash and Hogan constantly at the top of the card. Original nWo and the repackaging of Sting as the hero to fight the nWo was kinography but turning Hall and nash back face to be the 'wolfpac' who tried to be cool dickish faces was just transparently crap booking.

Actually not exactly this, rather leaving these guys on the undercard for shitty Sting and Broken Bret Hart pushes. Jericho was the MOST entertaining rassler they had and nothing.
