I think it's still Nolan's most visual film. In hindsight you see a lot of influence from Escher and Francis Bacon. Identities coalesce visually in a way that it very particular. It's visually thematic even though the music is atonal.

Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man (2004) take that crown, in the 21st century anyway. The Nolan trilogy aren't even the best Batman films, those are Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992) and even Batman Forever (1995).
