In the final episode, we see Leonard all alone in his apartment staring at his computer screen.
He types the last word of his fan fiction and saves the file before turning off the computer.
He steps back and we see lots of trash bags, piss bottles and the sort.
Sheldon never existed. It was just his imagination. Howard and Raj on the other side do exist but they never got married, worked for NASA or anything.
They're just three losers who alternate between the comic shop and Leonard's apartment.
Penny also does exist. She's the waitress at the Cheesecake factory.
Leonard never spoke a word with her. She doesn't even know he exists.
As the computer screen goes off, Howard sends him a message saying the new Avengers movie' ticket sale will start at midnight.
The screen fades out and the credits roll.
