Those things aren't cheap to build, plus they take a lot of time to build too and cost even more to dismantle properly when they've reached the end of their lifepsan. Really the only thing that can be done is to deal with it. Even if the temperature increase is as bad as the most dire predictions (which is unlikely, since the temp increase is actually underperforming estimates from 20 years ago, and CO2's effect on the climate has been shown to be less than originally thought), emitting all that CO2 was and is still the right thing to do.

It gets brought up occasionally that CO2 levels were far higher in the past than they are now, which is true. Levels rise and fall with ice age cycles, but the general trend has been a steadily decreasing level of atmospheric CO2 over the past hundred million years. This is because carbon is sequestered in limestone and other carbon sinks, where it essentially exits the carbon cycle permanently (there is something like 1000 times more CO2 in the Earth's limestone deposits than in the atmosphere, and it might even be higher than that). During the last ice age, atmospheric CO2 reached its lowest-ever point of 180 PPM.

Why is this an issue? At 150 PPM, photosynthesis no longer works. Every plant on earth, and by extension every animal that relies on plants as the base of its food chain, dies. All life on Earth (for all we know, all life in the universe) extinguished forever. At the pre-industrial rate of CO2 depletion, this was due to happen in a few million years (nothing in geologic time). With the CO2 we've put back into the atmosphere, we've bought something like 11 million years more for life on the planet.
