Why do you think the UK's style of humor didn't work in the US first season of this?

Why do you think the UK's style of humor didn't work in the US first season of this?
Pilot had almost the exact jokes as the UK pilot, yet I could feel it isn't connecting well.

People don’t like foreigners

Delivery too deadpan. Ricky Gervais too disgusting.

what do you expect from double digit mutt iq

>Delivery too deadpan.
this, uk office is far too dry it just comes off as bullying real people rather than sitcom characters telling a joke.

>cringe comedy is a highly intellectual endeavor
I bet you think Karl Pilkington is a satirical genius too.

A lot will disagree, but a huge reason is Ricky Gervais. Ricky perfected the character of making a unlikable person.
Another reason is, UK didn't hold anything back to push the unlikeability of Ricky's character more and more, and that's what made it work.

On the other hand, Americans aren't used to making characters horrible, so even if they followed UK's style, they never could go all the way like UK did. So the final product off as mediocre.

>cringe comedy is stupid
>but that friends tier sitcom humour? Now that's comedy
Pilkinton is a satirical genius, and you're a moron.

Americans will never be able to reach comedy heights that Brits have, simple as

americans are stupid. they can only associate with the central character, and if hes a loser they feel uncomfortable, like the tv (their god) is calling them a loser. the main character has to be cool/sexy/funny/smart/heroic etc. (morality doesnt come into it, eg tony soprano). just like how the US versions of basically any UK show needs an extreme amount of overproducing (musical stings, stupid lighting, endless dramatic cuts) and wHaCkY acting so the amerilards dont get confused

to give an example on this, there's a scene in the UK pilot where david fake fires the receptionist and she starts to cry. When the prank is revealed, she gives a long stare at david and says in a low, dragged voice 'you sad little man'.
The whole scene has a lot more dark tint here as opposed to the US where Pam just says 'you jerk' like she had been called fat by a friend.
Americans are physically unable to bring bleakness beyond a certain point, I don't know why.

THE DEPARTMENT OF SILLY WALKS HEHEHE

Yet america has historically produced more funny sitcoms than UK. Examples of good UK sitcoms runs out after counting to two or three

UK:
the office
the thick of it
black books
blackadder
father ted
absolutely fabulous
yes minister
only fools and horses
gavin and stacey
peep show
fawlty towers

US:
frasier
malcolm in the middle
?

>media production capital of the world has turned out more sitcoms than everywhere else
>names none to support the post
An all around stupid post. Typical "quantity is better than quality" stick. See this guy

Putting virgin The Office in the same category with the Chad Yes Minister is a gross distortion of the truth

>Married with Children
>It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
>Seinfeld
>Curb Your Enthusiasm

It's because in UK we root for underdogs. We have an obvious class system (complete with a monarch). While in America they have the great American dream, where anyone can 'make it'. So they don't dwell in the failures of characters, they have to win in the end. While in the UK we celebrate the failures

All garbage. Friends is better than Seinfeld.

Could you BE anymore reddit?

UK: Red Dwarf

US: Old Simpsons
First season modern family
First season parks and rec
M*A*S*H

>US wins if I pick and choose seasons from shows
Typical.

Only the office, the thick of it and black books are any good title from your list.
On the other hand, you are seem painfully ignorant about US shows.

you seem*

this is why I stopped watching the US Office very early on. they refused to let any of the characters fail. in the UK office, nobody wins, nobody has a redemption, and the guy doesn't get the girl (unless you count the christmas special which I don't). the humor comes from everyone being a miserable failure, not from the nutty office personalities being silly.

t. American who hates british TV

>Red Dwarf
thats a big yikes go watch dave

All sitcoms suck no matter what their country.

>hehe silly accents

As if there's anything wrong with wins.
Wins, if done right and realistically, has bigger emotional impact than failures. On the other hand, no one ever winning is unrealistic. Life isn't just a constant string of failures. People DO have wins in life.

That kind of comedy works well with subdued personalities so it's a natural fit for British characters. Americans are too lively to work in this context so when the show got filled with actors doing American characters it doesn't come out as well, that kind of comedy can work in US shows with the right characters (Louie worked well because Louie was a socially retarded, meek, ugly, loser.) That's why Pam was the only character who was better in the first season.

> "you seem ignorant about good US shows!"
> cant name any
