The entire film is basically a tense portrayal of an alien on a task being shoved in human civilization. Sort of like an alien coming of age story, her/it slowly learning empathy and compassion and then being confronted with the polar opposite. The end is her experiencing that, she's just as unable to process what's happening when being raped as she was unable to comprehend why are strangers helping her to get up on the street when she fell down, and through all that getting the entire human experience.
