Has anyone here been to see this yet? I'm a big fan of Tolkien and have been interested in how his experiences in war shaped him as a person. But the reviews coming in are all looking mediocre and I don't like to spend my money if there's a good chance I'll be disappointed. If they ignore his deep religious faith then I definitely will be. Can anyone give their opinion here? Thanks.
Tolkien film
just go see it cunt. or steal it online
did anyone ask for this movie? i don't get some of the stuff that they green light
My mom saw it and set it's alright. Her taste is pretty good. Not into total crap, at least.
The tolkein estate has shunned it that's all you need to know
That's what I'm debating, whether to actually go and see it or just wait a bit and find it on the internet. I don't go to the cinema very often and like to make it a special occasion. Thank you for your input.
Have they? Ok that is interesting. I feel like they are the kind of people who would shun it without even seeing it though. They seem very bitter and salty. Weren't they shafted out of loads of money from the lotr adaptations or something?
You're right, they haven't seen it. They don't approve of any biopics about Tolkien.
being christopher tolkien is suffering
>Has anyone here been to see this yet?
not me but I know one BUSY fella who did...hehehe
>Nicholas Hoult
I want his lips wrapped around my dick.
>you wouldn't download a house
It looks like total trash
This dude is a hack actor
I saw it, you could tell a lot of the first half hour or so was left on the cutting-room floor. Unless you already know Tolkien's life story it's sort of difficult to tell what's going on. Like the reviews and that one user's mom said, very mediocre.
He's a piece of shit. What he did to his child was horrific.
Why do they seem to act so childish about stuff like this? Wanting to make a film about a man is a mark of respect and an acknowledgement of his popularity. It's not all just cynical cash-grabbing.
Thanks for your reply. I might give it a miss.
yes but it's interessting to think about his motivation. i imagine a movie exploring chris' psyche would be better then the trash in OP
>It's not all just cynical cash-grabbing
user, I've got bad news for you.
Hollywood only produces propaganda to push their political agenda. You would have you be blind not to see this. His estate obviously feels the same way and understands how disrespectful they are to use his name.
Game of Thrones BTFO.
The problem with biopics like this is that it makes a man into more than what he was. Tolkien didn't see a damn balrog in the artillery fires or even have a clear idea of what he wanted to write in the first place. As the man himself said "The tale grew in the telling".
In the end he was a philologist with a fanatical interest in european mythology and legends. He wrote mainly for two reasons, One was to give his constructed languages context, Second was to give Britain the sort of mythological past that he felt had been lost when the Normans won and imposed their continental yoke upon the free anglo-saxons.
His legendarium was to be the British Aeneid.
you would if we start 3d printing houses
What did he do?
disavowed him for cooperating with the hollywood jew
Yes thank you for this reply. Tolkien was an extremely sensitive very intelligent and highly religious man. I am of the belief that the intersection of his religious feelings about the world with his experience in war as a young man had a profound effect on him. Lotr certainly grew in the telling and it became his meditation on the twin motivations of hope vs despair in the face of horror and death, and how these forces play out in the hearts of men and how they can lead to spiritual transformation (see Frodo, Aragorn, and Gandalf as aspects of the Christ-archetype). He did not 'see a balrog' in the flames, that would be a metaphor for how the experience of war makes one confront the problem of evil. And that's what lotr is- an extended reflection on on how to keep hope when you are surrounded by death and have every reason to despair. It helps that he had also been independently constructing his world for decades before he penned Rings. There will never be another like Tolkien. This is why I was so interested in this film, but not so much any more.
consensus among critics I consider worth the air they breathe is that it's god awful.
Does the film acknowledge his Catholic faith at all and its impact on his work?
Watch the hours of behind the scenes making of footage of the original trilogy and tell me that wasn't a massive labour of love by a large group of well-funded fantasy nerds. The story of lotr draws deeply on the roots of European paganism and Catholicism, it's got nothing to do with muh joos.
Thanks for this reply
Titus Techera is the heir to Armond White's throne. 20 years from now he will be King of Yea Forums.
Poor Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins curses every film she's in.
It's shit. Tolkien family dissaproves this film.
Does the film acknowledge his Catholic faith at all and its impact on his work?
Nope. The film doesn't show a bit of Tolkien believings. Not a word is said about if pure catholic faith.
Jewllywood is afraid of christianity. The same Tolkien said LOTR is based on his faith but this is an incovenient truth nowdays.
They just wanna erase christianity.
Lol they didnt even include C.S. Lewis?
Why would you give a fuck about them? World will be a better place once they stop gatekeeping and milking Tolkien products
Yes, you should see it. It's Finnish kino directed by someone with deep interest in Tolkien
enjoy your black elves on amazon fucking faggot
did they push the gay agenda again? I swear it happens in every one of these films
It's literally halmark channel tier
you seem to know your shit why did the trolls in the hobbit turn to stone in daylight, but it never happens in the LotR?
pooped in his cereal
Is CS Lewis at least in it?
>b-bl-black people!
What are you scared about, wh*te boi?
