All memes aside, do you think it was or wasn't out of character for her to do that?
I honestly think this turn was handled well and there has been a clear progression building towards this if the right circumstances were present. Which they were.

I think alot of people on the "out of character" camp deep down didn't want Dany to go for that route. They wanted her to have a happy ending and how that this is not happening they are just upset, which is perfectly understandable.
The writing was on the wall when you look back of her lack of know how to rule besides to conquer in order to raise an army & while in charge, she does just whatever her advisers say.
Now, once there were no one to reign her in, her true nature came up. According to Dunken & Donuts, her massacring civilians was cause Cersei hiding in the Rekt Keep, and she couldn't get her satisfactory kill of her enemies.
> why the civilians over the Keep then?
who the fuck knows really, hackery at its best.
you literally have to be retarded to think there was a clear progression towards killing everyone in the city.
It could've been fleshed out more but it wasn't as some people say completely left field. Taken in the context of this season only it does seem like it came out of nowhere but Daenarys has always been a tiny bit psycho since the beginning.
Remember how she freed the Unsullied.
well she has been threatening to burn people for the last few seasons, and its her "go to" option. so ... no?
Yeah I remember how she burned all the unsullied because Mario Daharis wouldn't sleep with her.
She has been shown to be a little fucked up and ruthless when it comes to her enemies. Burning people alive and crucifying people in Mereen. There is certainly clues in there that she might end up the crazy kind of Targaryen. But she was never shown to act cruelly to innocent people. There's really no justification for why she would suddenly kill the citizens of kings landing. If they wanted the twist to make sense, they needed more time to develop it. Maybe have her become less concerned about innocent people if they stand in her way or something. In the end, it felt cheap and undeserved.
Yeah, it's not like we've ever seen her burn men alive with dragon fire or wipe out whole cities before or commit massacres before now...
... oh wait.
It was in character. It's clear that it was slowly building toward it throughout the show, but D&D went ludicrous speed in S8 because the only guidance they were given were a page of bell puns for Tyrion to make and a corrupted Wordstar doc on a floppy disk.
What massacre are you talking about? You mean when she was killing her enemies who would have killed her? Yeah, that's totally the same as killing everyone in a city for no reason.
She never killed "innocent" people though, just enemy soldiers and slavers.
so? she is the daughter of the mad king? she went mad? she like fire?, im not a danyfag btw
Nothing in the previous seasons indicated she was gonna slaughter civilians after the city had surrendered and her life goal was finally completed. They could have had her take it too far by killing the fleeing Lannister armies or violently executing Cersei, but the “BURN THEM ALL” was incredibly forced and hackey. I saw Dany becoming a major antagonist to Westeros years ago and was actually a bit disappointed they went with the avengers assemble shit instead of her conquering Westeros right away.
It would have been better for her to have won, not slaughtered all those innocents, and just taken the iron throne. Her buildup to madness starts with her violent execution of Cersei, and then she gives the citizens of King landing the choice to bend the knee. Anyone who doesn’t gets roasted. Show her realizing that she got the throne but it cost her everything. She has no one she loves or trusts. Without Missandei, Grey worm has gone full rage autist so he’s no real company. The only one she still has that she loves is Drogon, and she starts turning to him as a solution more and more often. We see her paranoia start to build up as she wonders if the northern forces were plotting against her and of Jon plans on usurping the Throne. Make her turn to the mad queen feel earned. If she does start Dracarysing citizens, have it be because they were rioting. We deserved a whole season of Mad Queen Dany, the way it played out was just rushed and incredibly forced
needed one more episode, and maybe making it worthwhile for her to target civilian clusters due to shit firing at her.
The reasoning D&D gave is just insane.
Completely out of character.
Narratively it makes the series rather pointless and the heroes to look like fools. Makes it look like if Ned had just went along with Robert's plan to kill her in the very beginning this all could have been avoided (sans the whole story with the Night King).
So from commenrs & poor caring compassionate breaker of chains to throne obsessive tyrant.
What was the point where her character changed again?
It doesn't matter whether or not it was in character, the nonsensical plot means everything is meaningless garbage, just because the writers tell you there's only 2 cities in all of westeros doesn't make that true
It was a mental breakdown. Perfectly in character for the situation she got in.
I think she needed another full season to properly make the turn from 'nobody here loves me' to 'burn them all'. It was definitely rushed, just like everything since season 4.
Yes, burning random civilians (including women and children) instead of attacking Red Keep was clearly in-character.
Loved seeing all those filthy peasant fucks get murdered and burnt to cinders. These were the same fucks that cheered at Neds exexution and rioted during Season 2, literally tearing apart and eating the High Septon. Also they are ugly and dirty and the sight of such miserable creatures makes me sick. Easily the most based moment Dany has had throuhout tye series, fuck Stannis, fuck Robb and fuck Tywin, Dany's where its at.
>When the PTSD kicks in and you roast an entire city of civilians
IT AINT ME
IT AINT ME
I AINT NO MILITARY QUEEN
Entire population screaming to sound the bell of defeat, they sound it, she goes to kill everyone instead
Well alright then
t. 500th generation peasant
>Nothing in the previous seasons indicated she was gonna slaughter civilians after the city had surrendered and her life goal was finally completed
except for that other city she conquered where she immediately slaughtered civilians?
They had been building towards this very obviously for some time now
Definitely out of character. She literally got 'mad' in the span of 2-3 episodes, and in-universe a few days.
Hey now user, his great, great, great, great, great, great and so on grandmother was probably raped by some noble lord's son for the fun of it so technically....
he's nobility
S08E04, where D&D remembered they were meant to turn her into the mad queen over the last 4 seasons but forgot.
Completely out of character. Literally no reason for her to fly around the city for 45 minutes slaughtering peasants. It's like she was an npc boss going through fight mechanics
Poorly executed
You can smell D&D were not intelligent enough to handle the build-up properly
Expectations status: subverted.
which one was that?
In character. It's just that the jewish directors don't see the difference between her slaughtering some slavekeeping male arabs over on that other continent and slaughtering European looking surrendered women and children. To them, all non-jews are the same: cattle.
the one where she crucified 100 people as soon as she conquered it, quarth or meereen maybe. I can't remember which of the stupid middle eastern cities was named what.
AND THAT'S A GOOD THING
This is what a Clinton presidency would have been like
>instead of roasting Cercei and Red Keep she starts burning innocent citizens for like an hour
Gee, I wonder if she was OOC or not.
Those were slavetraders user
>inb4 muh slavery
None, he is misremembering.
These people literally cannot separate slave owners and the working class
a mental breakdown right when the battle couldn't have gone any more in her favour though? If Rhaegal and Missandei were still alive during the battle and after the bells rang a random scorpion arrow came and killed Rhaegal and and Missandei got pushed out the red keep even after Dany took the city, then there would be grands to go mad in the heat of things. But they threw away those plot devices to pad out the previous episode
I am a descendant of the last King of Kashmir you filthy low caste Shudra cuck. My great grandmother was his daughter that married into a royal family of the neighbouring state and my mother married into Rajasthani royalty making me a prince and my elder brother an heir to the seat. Go back to wagecucking at fucking Mcdonalds or where ever you peasants labour at while I chill woth hot thirsty 10/10 bitches in my jacuzz with a pigshit wh*Teoid butler to cater to my whims
She crucified 100 slavers who had crucified 100 young slaves to provoke her.
Personally I've hated her since season 2 but I can't see how what she did was unreasonable or an example of bad writing. In a short amount of time she lost more almost everyone she loved either to death or to betrayal and since the second season we've seen how she was always hanging by a thread when it came to capitulating to her family's history of mental problems.
The people crucified were the masters and higher up slave traders, not even regular slave owners.
Her story is a revenge arc. She has almost always threatened her adversaries with extreme violence. Ser Jorah represented the last stay against her aggressive and impulsive tendancies. He died in Winterfell.
Normies liked her because she liberated slaves, and thus projected their values into her. She was never "the good girl," and because she doesn't fit into their linear archetypes they're upset at the writers.
I'm glad they went down this route. After S8E3 I was thinking DnD were just pandering to the least common denominator to just end the show with a happy ending and be done with it.
I just don't understand having King's Landing surrender before the slaughter
I wanted Dany to show her real colors, her motto was always "I'll do anything for the throne", but if you strip her actions of any moral ambiguity it feels random and out of nowhere
Theres quite a difference between crucifying some slavers, and burning alive half a city of fleeing women and children.
It really didn't make sense for her to start randomly targeting civilians after they yelled about surrender.
And yet these people cannot separate that day laborers barely scraping by are somehow analogous to fucking slave traders
Yeah that's what happened. Good input retard.
She crucified one master for every child on a cross. It's ruthless but not cruelty for the sake of sadism
Ned always fought to keep his honor and look where it got him.
Head chopped off, his wife always thought he was unfaithful even to her death, and Jon Snow bending the knee to a foreign invader.
Speedwatchers. She had civilian masters rounded and crucified indiscriminately including people who spoke out against the initial crucifixion and people who treated their slaves well.
>Can't even remember the name
>Doesn't remember what happened
>Still tries to join a discussion about it
Stop it. Keep lurking and stop posting if you don't know what you're talking about
The turn was abrupt. It should've shown her paranoia earlier where "she can't trust anyone", gaining power when the dragons grew bigger and less paranoid, but when she starts losing dragons she becomes weaker and fearful. Link her psychology to the dragons.
The battle for kings landing was shit, plot armor for the the dragon, wasn't even a battle. Why didn't she do this the first time they arrived (it only took one afternoon) no casualties, 3 dragons, even less defenses. She could've united the seven kingdoms and still kill the night king (considering he was a push over)
The leaks says that Dany will attempt to justify her actions to Jon. What is she going to say? I am really curious.
>people who treated their slaves well.
I mean, they only whipped them a little I mean geez guys come on
>It's ruthless but not cruelty for the sake of sadism
No, it's cruelty that she believes is justified which is far worse.
Still wealthy slave traders. These people made a living capturing, breaking down and selling others as property.
Non-book reader. She crucified masters and slavers as retaliation for them crucifying slaves.
Mad Danny is canon and will happen in the books too, but the way d&d did it couldnt be worse. Made no sense, same as most things this season. She had never killed anyone without a reason before and just a season before this one she stated that 'i am not here to burn your cities and children' and also 'i dont want to be queen of the ashes'. Everything she ever truly wanted was the Iron Throne and she destroyed it (and her claim to it) the moment she got it. It was retarded.
it was on character but rushed
Kings landing is the Targaryen seat of power and she just trashed it. If they didn't hate her guts before, they will now.
Not really, stannis would have done the same. Or burned them.
It was completely within her character.
>Non-book reader. She crucified masters and slavers as retaliation for them crucifying slaves.
Yes, and made no attempt to differentiate between the evil slave owners and the decent ones.
In the books it's even worse, she crucifies people as young as 14 for keeping slaves.
Even then, she had a reason. She had no reason to do what she did in KL
But nobody is left to hate her. If you kill all your subjects then nobody can hate you.
youtube.com
>no barristan or jorah to advise her that killing is wrong
>cersei killed missandei, her bff
>crucifying slavers and burning people who doesn't agree with her
This
Dany this episode was perfectly in character with book dany because it was a GRRM plot point, Dany leading up to this hasn't been in character with book dany which is why it is so jarring now.
>and the decent ones
There are none
Check out history you basedoids, a town gets given a chance to surrender but as soon as the siege starts and they dont open the gate its game.
Romans did it, mongols did it etc. etc.
It was well within her right.
This turn makes me afraid Stannis will actually burn Shireen in the books. Circumstances will be different, but he will do it
Dragonstone is the seat of targ power with the valyrian infrastructure and active volcano. Coming to king's landing was the beginning of the end for the true targs
>Plot armor for the dragon
No, the previous dragon dying was just beyond retarded. They are explained to be practically invulnerable in the sky and throughout the entire series have been said to be able to conquer entire civilisations with just a few of them. It's not weird that one dragon destroy a city without getting hurt. That's exactly how they've been build up.
She's a targ. Targs are all inbred and mad. Viserys was a good, loving brother until the stress drove him crazy. Why is it so shocking that it happened to dany too. She's had a history of cruelty and using fire to solve her problems too.
>What is she going to say? I am really curious.
Same as she said before probably, she has to rule by fear. The same way Targaryens came to power in the first place.
Question. Was Cersi that bad of a ruler that she needed to be removed as fast as possible for the sake of the millions of people and the future generations? Dany proved in a lot of ways across the seasons that she is inferior to Cersi as a ruler in many ways.
>All memes aside, do you think it was or wasn't out of character for her to do that?
No. I've been saying she's gonna be a tyrant ever since she burned the Tarlies, but femshits and normalfags kept kvetching and justifying her actions. I knew she was gonna do something bad that would turn people against her, but I figured it would be something small like executing one of Jon's friends, not something this big. I did suspect it would happen once she started constantly threatening to destroy the city.
>There is no meaning, no purpose. We murder, we kill, it is mindless savagery, this universe is mindless
shush bro you'll trigger the neocons. gotta spread liberal democracy and freedom to everyone no matter the cost.
She's clearly established she's willing to resort to fear if people don't love her. Westerosi never trust her and her nephew didn'y give cummies so yeah it made sense to me. She lost two of her fur babies, half her army, and her only friend so going slightly deranged is to be expected. Give someone power and they'll act out, I can see most people doing the same thing in that situation.
Even that dad of that one master who wanted to fuck daenerys? Who it's explicitly stated only used a single slave to tutor his kids and still ended up on a cross?
Fuck off mate, you clearly didn't know what you're talking about. Dany has not been portrayed as reveling in the slaughter of innocents. They fucked it up.
>Everyone close to her either dead or plotting against her
>Nobody trusts her and a treasonous assassination seems imminent
>Man she loves not only refusing to love her back but might take everything she's ever wanted away from her to claim for his own
>Pre disposition to madness
>It's a medievil siege, she is going to rule by conquer
>She wants to break the wheel
I thought it was fine. Could have done with another episode of set up but the fact that it almost came out of nowhere was sort of more shocking.
1) Aegon the Conqueror showed mercy whenever he could
2) Dorn kicked his ass
she can't take on the whole 7 kingdoms with one dragon. People will no longer support her after what she did.
I have to admit I wasn't really expecting D&D to have Dany literally do 9/11 times 1000
It will be his retarded wife not him
not gonna happen. its going to be mellisandre who will burn shireen
DO IT AGAIN BOMBER DANY
>Inferior to Cersei
Nobody was an inferior ruler compared to Cersei. She's literally the worst one since the mad king.
>And united in this void of purpose, fear, or duty... we shall at long last be free!
A king who has nobody to rule is just some dude and not a king at all.
>Dany has not been portrayed as reveling in the slaughter of innocents. They fucked it up
Correct, she regretted crucifying the masters once she realised some of them didn't deserve, but the initial post wasn't about how daenerys would feel after she'd commited an atrocity, it was about how she would act in the heat of the moment.
Aside from the debacle with the Faith, she did pretty well with what she had.
You get a bunch of stuff like this happen in the Dance though. Tumbleton got burnt to shit and Aemond burnt half the riverlands. Because guess what, defy the guys with dragons and you get burnt to shit. Its the Targaryan way.
She used the clouds and the sun's glare to surprise the enemy.
Aegon I also used this tactic.
She arrived at Dragonstone and almost immediately got courted by Jon to fight up North. Had she ignored him the wights would have destroyed Winterfell.
except for deus macharya
A 12 year old girl literally watches her brother boil alive without flinching, you have to be retarded not to have seen she's a psychopath.
memes aside, he was the rightful ruler and would have been the best for everyone.
It came completely out of nowhere in the series. Completely out of character. They tried to make her mad in the span of 2 episodes and the delivery was horrible.
How old was she in the show though? They aged everyone up by like 5 years didn't they, still a good point either way.
All memes aside no one gives a fuck.
This board is drowning in GoT threads. Instead of making a new one why not pose your question in a currently existing one?
To be fair, the constant rape numbed her emotions.
>They tried to make her mad in the span of 2 episodes and the delivery was horrible.
This. It's pretty clear they had no plan to have her story end up this way until they began writing this season and had to cram it into six episodes along with everything else.
there has been a clear progression of her getting more ruthless for 3 seasons now you brainlet
not to mention in the earlier seasons her violent impulses were only restrained by much smarter and level headed advisors
she was 15 in season 1
because nobody gives a shit about your browsing experience. filter the threads you dont like
I'm still trying to wrap my head around about the point where she turns from commoners & poor caring breaker of chains to throne obsessive tyrant as a character.
Was the breaker of chains part just a mere ruse at this point?
If she was going on a kill crazy spree, why didn't she kill Jon "by mistake" and tie up that lose end. If anyone complains you could say I was riding a dragon at max speed burning the shit out of a whole city.
wasn't that tutor also his friend and he bought him so he could keep his family?
>If she was going on a kill crazy spree, why didn't she kill Jon "by mistake''
she still wants to fuck him
Even Joffrey was a better ruler than Cersei. She fucking bombed an entire sept with wildfire because Margaery was going to marry her son. How can anyone say she was even half decent? She was a terrible ruler and a tyrant.
This is happening right now with danyfags
>reeeeee, it's not true, she wouldn't
They don't believe it because they love her, the same with Stannis
The madness came about a bit too quickly but she's been doing evil shit since season 2.
Season 1 if you count her smiling while drogo said he'd kill every man and rape every woman in westeros.
go read interviews of freed American slaves who were still alive in the early 20th century
many were sad that they'd lost those who they'd grown to see as family(without slavery, many people were forced to move west into the frontier so they'd be able to feed their families)
I know you probably won't even google any of them, let alone read them, but believing literal war propaganda written by New England housewives is outright foolish.
>inb4 screeching
Maybe if she burned some civilians along with some soldiers and went from there it would make sense but she decided to go full Hiroshima on strictly civilian areas for like 45 minutes.
Was Joffrey even that bad a king apart from being sadistic to a few people? Strangling a few whores seems like a small price to pay compared to the rest of the fucknut gallery.
Stop pulling shit out of your ass. She was more ruthless in season 1 than in season 5. She's been setup as a kind, but just character when that was never GRRM's intention. D&D completely missed the point, and then realised they now have to turn her mad in one season. Which is why the delivery was so horrible. Book Dany is completely different from show Dany.
Of the characters who made it to the final season, Dany has the best character arc, it's just a shame that Emilia Clarke was a lousy actor for a good 6 seasons (she claims to have been having brain aneurysms) and they spun her tyranny as "yasssssss muh feminist khaleesi" which is what is confusing so many normies now.
Every other character has wonky motivations now and most of their history is ignored.
>inb4 Sansa
Sansa's arc is stupid, in reality being tortured, raped, beaten etc. for years doesn't turn you into a tactical genius.
>implying it made any sense for Stannis to burn his daughter either.
D&D are hacks who makes characters do rephrensible things whenever they want you to shift sympathies.
He did literally nothing with his position except kill whores and torture people, no attempt to rule. His rule only worked because other people like tywin did it all
He was incapable, which is why his advisors and council practically ran the city. That's why it was fine. Cersei took over the reins and fucked it all into the ground.
he caused the war of the five kings
That was 100% Ned's fault
She completely fucked up in Meereen and Astapor. In the former she had to sell a guy back into slavery because he was homeless, in the latter her council got overthrown by a slave.
Also, before she instructs the dragons to tear apart those Meereenese noblemen, Missandei tells Daenerys to always trust the decision she alone sees in her mind, regardless of the consequences. This is a massive overlooked hint that she would go psycho, it also makes the dracarys thing from Missandei before she got rekt make sense.
But dude haha its not tyranny if the people you killed were bad people according to modern liberal standards.
Yes. He was an idiot. But that's not a big problem, idiots can be good kings. The problem is he didn't listen to his advisors who were all smarter than him. E.g the Ned execution
>just filter the entire board!
Stannis would have tried to take the throne with his pitiful 10k men, the other participants would likely have stood down if Joffrey didn't behead Eddard.
The bells meant Tyrion got the better of her. He made her accept a surrender. Made her to tell her soldiers to accept it. This little shit took her victory away from her. The whole of King's Landing was conspiring against her with the surrender. Cercei was laughing at her from her fucking keep. She just wanted to be loved but everyone is backstabbing, undermining and betraying her. A Thargarian is not to be mocked. She has a dragon ffs. Now she'll show them what that means to wake the fucking dragon.
kino
I wonder, the dragons are loyal to thargarians, would the dragon listen to jon over her?
She became a utilitarian, she justified it by comparing the suffering of a single city for a single day to the glorious never ending Golden Age utopia she will rule once in power. Actually not burning men and women alive and thus denying all the many millions of people in the world entry in to her new garden of Eden would have been an act of pure evil.
Maybe it will make sense in the future. Anyway I find it pointless for him to burn his daugther, because Melly will find a new AA in Jon and probably back off from Stannis and she could be the only person who would press him into doing this. Too bad she will burn Shireen in the process
Was he the sane one all along?
If Ned had just told Bobby then none of it would have happened.
based
it's personal revenge
same as Grey Worm
No. He was an abuser and he only wanted power so he could torture people. He was Geoffrey with Dragon blood.
If Jon kills Dany, the dragon might take that as a replacement of the alpha status. Or as an offense. Who knows how they'll write it.
There was no hinting about dany going psycho, the writers made her a mary sue feminist protagonist for profit and popularity, then did the mad queen plot twist at the end for shock value. They don't think ahead with anything when it comes to the writing, because they hate the show and it's the last thing on their minds. This isn't happening in the books btw
The character in the books is actually a child, so her irrational behaviour is at least justified. In the show she's a grown adult, which I guess is why her MEMEME tendencies struck a cord with normies.
At least we know she won't lose a dragon via guided ballista missile. The horn will be used in some way.
but they weren't of this magnitude
also she always specifically targeted her enemies
I would also accept if she had only destroyed the red keep while having the dragon spit out fire here and there but not the entire city
there just weren't enough development towards her descent to madness in this season which is why this felt rushed, but after thinking about it and the people who were obviously ideologically charged towards dany I can only salute dabid for going this route and not cucking out even if this was one of the expected endings.
based as fuck. coudn't agree more.
It fits her character but happened too quickly, without enough of a decent explanation for such a drastic change. There have been things in the past that hint to this happening sure, but it's still not good enough considering the gravity of what she did. They needed at least a few episodes to build this sort of thing up properly (if not a whole season(?), or to have lead to it better in past seasons), otherwise it seems sudden and forced.
Right. But that all sucks. That's like the kind of misery we have to put up with in the real world.
So why would I want to see that in my fantasy fiction show about dragons and elves?
The realm can endure a sadistic king. The realm can endure a stupid king. The realm can endure a king that doesnt listen to his council. The realm cannot endure a sadistic, stupid king that doesnt listen to his council
She’s been entitled from the start. All the YAS KWEEN shit was put on her by normies and crept into the show
What the fuck now i'm rooting for her now.
It was not out of character, but it was forced as fuck. If they had killed Missansei or Rhaegal at that point I'd understand her going berserk. But she gains nothing destroying the whole city like this and she did it just because.
He was until the stress got to him. Targaryens always go full psycho after a stresser. Look at Aerys, perfectly good king until Duskendale fucked him up. Viserys was the same, but it was the 'being homeless and on the run with your baby sister' thing that got him
I cant FUCKING BELIEVE IT LADS.

I would understand if she burned the Red Keep and those people Cersei used as a living shield around the castle. Instead, she just straight up burned the streets of King's Landing filled by nobody but common folk whom had nothing to do with this entire conflict. I was completely puzzled by that and consider this bad writing.
People complaint about her suddenly turning mad and evil miss the point. The point is that this is entirely consistent with everything she has done up until now. She didn’t “turn” she was always a power hungry imperialist with messiah delusions who wanted to “break the wheel” which is exactly what she did in this episode. Her goals and ambitions and her threat were always disguised with Yass Queen slay tropes, but as Varys said like all tyrants they see themselves in messianic terms and end up wreaking great destruction as a result. Pic related
woah.... shes just like hitler. mind = blown
>The point is that this is entirely consistent with everything she has done up until now. She didn’t “turn” she was always a power hungry imperialist with messiah delusions who wanted to “break the wheel” which is exactly what she did in this episode
None of that is true though. You're just making up shit about her to suit your own view.
It was clearly telegraphed. People didn't notice it because their brains rotted from watching too much capeshit to the point they genuinely think being "good guy" or "bad guy" is a personality trait.
Here are some actual personality traits Dany demonstrated:
>delusion
>narcissism
>god complex
>entitlement
>inability to handle being second-guessed
>inabilty to solve problems by any means other than violence
And here are some key enviromental factors shaping her development:
>never had accountability for her actions
>never had to learn handling failure
>never succesfully dealt with conquest-related moral dillemas since everyone JUST HAPPENED to be muh wheel to be broken and as soon as things got dire the plot just conveniently gave her justifications
She's wanted to take the Iron Throne since episode 1. She's been conquering cities, destroying cultures and playing dictator since her dragons hatched. By definition she is a power hungry imperialist.
Was.
She's a Targaryen. They are a very special kind of vermin, in my book; as are dragons more generally.
The one and only time when I've mentally been tempted to even pause and consider the viability of the murder of children, was when Robert Baratheon spoke of killing Dany and her siblings; and that, only because it would have ensured for certain that House Targ was gone for good, and would never be coming back.
Sometimes you need to be sure.
>giving a flying fuck about essos
>literally Africa
>the most boring parts of every episode
NK being targaryen was the stupidest theory I've read. You're right about the rest, they completely bailed on tying loose ends
>She didn’t “turn” she was always a power hungry imperialist with messiah delusions who wanted to “break the wheel”
While this is true, she only really went bad once she started truly and regularly thinking of herself as a Targ. She wasn't doing that from the word go; but a few people brought up what happened to her father a couple of times, and that was enough. After that it was less about breaking chains and actually being good to people, and more about avenging her father and just making sure that the Targs got back on the throne.
She wanted to go back to a house with a red door.
All of the "yas queen slay" moments people have taken as allegory for female empowerment and not as the horrific acts they are. Then you also have the medieval-ish setting, so people are willing to overlook the modern-day evil things like trial-less executions. These two things basically disguised her character's shift over the past few seasons.
It's really unfortunate for thew show watchers, but as a book reader it's all really satisfying. I feel satisfied that I can ignore the entire show, take the books, fill in Winds of Winter with my imagination, and then take this episode (and presumably the next one) and have a complete view of the story.
>all your subjects
There aren't 6 other kingdoms or anything......
Well shes certainly got a special fucking way of doing it. If it acts like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck its a duck no matter how much it tries to say it just wants to go back to a house with a red door.
>I will take what is mine with fire and blood!
Yes that doesn't sound like a power hungry despot at all she totally meant "my first year priorities are a reform of the judicial branch and increasing the minimal wage" there.
>People connected to slavery is universally evil
Liberals who parrot this shit are dumber than d&d. And then they equate people who defend innocent slavers as defending the institution of slavery. Just look at Burger history. More than half the founding fathers owned slaves. Bomber Dany would have killed them. That shitty musical guy that Liberals love, Hamilton, was an abolitionist but his family owned slaves. Bomber Dany would have crucified him too. Fuck it, Bomber Dany was right
Very in character. D&D are still hacks, but Dany was fucking mental for several seasons now.
its crazy how fast the unsullied multiply
Dany is an egotist, has a tendency to be heavy handed when attempting to "rule", and she also has the potential to overwhemed by late-onset Targaryen insanity. The seeds were sown for all of this.
The only issue is the rapid acceleration. So there are two camps of complainers, the fairly sensible
>hey this happened so fast it's unbelievable, the fuck were they thinking?
crowd, and the already deluded
>YAAAAS QUEEN SLAY, wait what why is she doing that? Dany is nothing but good and virtuous, mother of dragons, breaker of chains... and all of a sudden she's evil?"
crowd, who clearly weren't actually paying attention
i think it fits the mould the show made for her, but its execution insults my intelligence.
There has been seasons building to this. All the rape, failure and people not taking her seriously, then arriving at the gates where it all started only to be about to embrace another failure couldnt keep happening. She was refered to as the Mad Queen, now she actually is one and not just called it to make he look mad to people in the story but hte audience never sees it, she actually is fucking mad.
Were people seeing her do shit like fry prisoners and destroy whole cities and saying "fuck yea, shes so cool and badass" and not "she might be going a but far with how cruel she is becoming". I dont get how people never saw this coming, people were expecting a Disney ending where she gets a prince and has a baby and goes on with a happy life after the shit she went through and did to people? If it was a man would you be thinking these same things or calling her a vengeful force that someone will eventually have to stop for everyones sake.
bet she got a high pH pussy
this post is correct
all the yass queen people have been pandered to all along and honestly that was what made dany a bad character earlier because there wasn't much double sided nuance or any real concern about her abuse of power; the curcifixion thing, the tarly thing, they were both pretty reasonable all things considered. They really needed to have shown her developing a sadistic streak earlier; maybe burning a village as revenge for the actions of one man or something.
instead, we have 7 seasons of dany the perfect protagonist and then this season every says "whoah she's crazy" when she's done fuck all wrong and then she decides to commit genocide
She tells Jon she'll use fear to rule and she can't just mean taking the keep because that was always the plan.
And those civilians have cost her plenty. Can't do this because civilians. Can't do that because the innocent civilians. Vaerys and his precious people of Kings Landing.
They were absolutely on her shit list.
dude have you ever seen a woman that hasn't eaten in a day???
I think the episode was a nice metaphor for sweden; what happens if you put women in power and allow a bunch of immigrants in your lands, willing or unwilling
every single cisgender white male however acted completely rationally
absolutely based
She is head-strong and says intimidating things like that because of it. Didn't mean she was going to go insane.
The seeds have always been there for Dany to go ballistic. Dany's go-to tactic every season has been overwhelming force, so it shouldn't surprise people that that's how she chose to handle Cersei.
What's out of character is how she deliberately and consciously targeted civilians and non-combatants when doing so accomplished no military objective. She's always been sympathetic to the downtrodden. Indeed, her entire goal, or so she claims, is to make the world a better place for those very people.
At the start of the episode, her speech to Tyrion in Dragonstone suggests that she no longer cares about collateral damage, but that still doesn't explain why, once the bells rang, she chose go block by block, seeking out and incinerating every civilian she could find. There was no military objective to be gained by doing that. That's not incidental collateral damage while attacking a military target, that's the purposeful, systematic, and methodical murder of non-combatants. She has never displayed this attitude before, even when she crucified the Masters in Slavers Bay (because she viewed the Masters as uniformly wicked, they owned slaves, after all). That's why it's out of character, because there has never been a basis for targeting civilians in her mind.
Now, if Dany had gone straight to the Red Keep and trashed that with Lannister forces and civs inside, and the civs were just "acceptable collateral damage" in her mind to torch Cersei, that might be more in character, since the civs are just getting caught in the crossfire. Or if she took the Iron Throne and began to rule, and faced another Sons of the Harpy situation, then I could see her gradually viewing the civilian populace as the enemy since she can no longer distinguish them from her enemies.
But "im angry, lets murder innocent civilians by the truckload"? Very out of character, no basis for why she'd do that.
It was definitely in character.
Dany is a "my way or fuck you" character. She's losing support and can't trust anyone anymore. She's the Mad King's daughter after all.
This was probably the only good thing in season 8. Everything else is beyond shit, worse than any other last season I've seen.
If you see it from her pov its a little different. Kings Landing isn't KINGS FUCKING LANDING to her, its another city. Her whole like has been raised by a sadistic brother, sold and raped to a horde of barbarians who she witnessed for at least a year rape and pillage village after village, town after town. Then she watched massacres and atrocities year after year in mareen, astapor, Karth. A guerilla war with the harpy. She shows up in westerous and has 2 of her "children" killed. Watches her bestfriend killed, her rule is threatened by her lover, her rule is nconsistantly undermined by sansa and all of the north, the Tarlys, her own counsil... Then these enemy combatants only ask for mercy AFTER the seige is underway. She reacted with brutality you would not be shocked if displayed by most military commanders.
In addition to this, its not completely out of the blue. We've seen her order the bloodwitch burned, the slave masters cruisified, her enemys locked in a vault... And lastly people forget she burned the Tarlys for not bending the knee. Escalation? Yes. Unimaginable? No
Looking back, anything that was supposed to be foreshadowing her going nuts was probably seen at the time as too heavy handed to be trying to convey that message.
I guess none of us realized how fucking abysmal the people associated with this Hebrew Box Office abomination were at creating something, and how heavily they were relying on inspiration from the book. I'm sure if you go back now and re-watch it (which lol that's not happening) with the mindset of "these are nepotistic hack kikes" everything will be very obvious
>perfect protagonist
bitch, she litearlly kills everyone who even slightly disagrees with her, and has been a MASSIVE retard from the moment she earned drogo's confidence, whereupon she immediately gets him killed, then continues to march herself straight into one situation after another that TO ANY OTHER CHARACTER would've resulted in their death, if not for her bullshit plot armor (e.g. survives fire because literal magical plot armor, survives assassins because pedoman just happens to be there to save her, survives her and ALL HER REMAINING SUBJECTS dying at the gates of the first fucking city she reaches but again magical dragon plot armor saves her in spite of her making the worst possible decisions along every line, and so fucking on for the entire goddamn show)
dany has always been a shit character, and not just on a meta-level of her being too perfect or whatever stupid garbage you're pretending. she was always a shit person as well, the narrative just doesn't focus on her stupidity, it was actually the worst part of the first couple of seasons how the narrative never called her out on any of her ridiculous retardedness. instead she just sort of stumbles her way forwards yasskweenslayyy'ing everyone in her path through no virtue of her own making. probably the only admirable thing she has done the ENTIRE show was taming drogo. but as already stated, she managed to fuck that up as well.
>get what you want
>still feel like shit
>have PMS, a dragon and absolute power
pretty simple to understand
i fell in love with mad dany, bros
The show should have ended with Daenerys's (and Jon's) sanity being an ominous question for the future. One where Tyrion may have to face the idea of becoming a Queenslayer in the future, and allow him and Varys (who should not have died) to muse on this and the entire subject of the Game of Thrones (HE SAID THE THING)
>geoffrey
There is the prospect of Arya being dead at least, that final scene mightve been metaphor, not literally a pale horse coming to rescue her, it is death coming to take her. At least thats the hope, and it just flew over peoples heads, her point has now expired in the story.
>W-won't someone think of the slavers?
Enough with the false equivalencies, Jesus.
Without fake Aegon and a season's worth of dedicated buildup this twist doesn't work at all.
I've never been a fan of the character so in principle, I'm fine with the eventuality of her snapping and, simply put, becoming a villain. However, anyone who thinks that this was sufficiently set up in the show is a fucking moron. If the books end the same way, GRRM will show her descent into madness actually take place over time. D&D are hacks, there can be absolutely no defending this shit. Truly ridiculous.
too complex, watch as Arya kills Dany next week
she never viewed common people as human, she was a narcissist who freed slaves to feed her own ego
Grey Worm still limited his violence to Lannister soldiers, and no civs, as far as I could tell.
And Dany's "personal revenge" should have seen her fly straight to the Red Keep when the bells rang. Instead, she spends like 30 minutes roasting the residential districts, packed with civs, going block by block, in a highly methodical strafing runs, before she ever reaches the Red Keep. How is slaughtering civs personal revenge when she saw, with her own two eyes, who killed Missandei? It was Mountain on Cersei's orders. It makes no sense. It's not like Missandei was killed by a rioting lynch mob of KL residents. *That* would make more sense for why she hated the city's people themselves.
She has to have character first before something becomes out of character.
Daenerys Targaryen is a thinly veiled female Alexander the Great. Don't know why nobody ever mentions this on this board.
That's the thing, she did that because she assumed all masters/slavers were monsters who deserved to die, was repeatedly presented with the fact that some of these masters were not the monsters she thought, and she began to regret her actions, and started making concessions. She learned ages ago that retaliation is not justice, but now all of that is out the window. She's always been ruthless, and her descent into tyranny has been present since season 2, but what everyone is complaining about is that the execution of this transition has been botched.
>remember all the normies and redditfags saying that Stannisfags angry at D&D were 'over-reacting' and were being 'butt hurt fanboyss'
>mfw all the 'they ruined khaleesi!' butthurt
What goes around comes around.
I think it was a good idea for her storyline. But I don't think it was handled as well as it could have been. Most of her turn to madness happened in one or two episodes. It could have used some more build up.
I thought it was bran but seemed odd since she was already out of danger... Idk i see the point of her ground level witness of the destruction but was focused on a bit much. I think Clagainbowl should have been interrupted less, maybe a cut away or 2 but not full scenes
You know whats stupid? Only one episode left. We shouldve had a whole season of the characters dealing with this. Its all going to be resolved in one fucking episode.
Cry me a river bitch
>There was no hinting about dany going psycho
>...the writers made her a mary sue feminist
no hint, huh
It was one of the most well handled things this season, but the bar wasn't high.
The setup was there but they totally rushed her to the tipping point. Should have used more previous screentime to show danys darker side
Yea that's true. It doesn't make any sense for her to zig zag and burn the whole city like she was mowing a lawn. She should have just destroyed the red keep, which would then have killed civs below it and it'd be the same story.
The fuzzy writing and of course the twitterverse left some room for argument but if you watch the show as objectively as possible you cannot say it was a massive shock.
because alexander was a genius of historical proportions, while she's a stupid whore who incompetently bumbles her way around while her family name and dragons and magical powers, and followers attracted to her based on those unearned things instead of any of her actual actions do, everything for her?
could litearlly replace her with a cardboard cutout and it'd be just as good. fuck, it'd probably be better - at everything. except maybe locomotion.
It wasn't out of character but it's like she flipped the "go mad" switch. They basically just set her up for it half this episode and the previous one.
Also having the bells tip her over the edge was fuckin retarded.
That's pretty damned unfair considering most of those people were brought up in a culture where slavery is perfectly acceptable and bore no ill will or evil intent toward anyone.
That's like moving to South America and shooting everyone who puts used toilet paper in the garbage- the thought or desire is understandable but in reality you need to update the plumbing, building codes, educate the filthy peasants and so on.
You can't just go burning people in their own fucking homelands for not preemptively confirming to your personal sense of morality. That's called being a dick.
Based
There are plenty of posts on Yea Forums explaining why she did it, it is exactly what was supposed to happen.
It's just a shame most brainlets wont understand it and say season 8 was shit ONLY because of that, when really this is the only good thing that's happened so far and everything else has been abysmal..
Personally I think it's quite realistic for an emotional, grieving and distraught women to do whom has access to a wmd.
This. It wasn't implausible, but crazy Dany should've been built up more slowly over the course of a season, not an episode and a half
Not all slaves try to escape. In fact most people are surprisingly ok with not having freedom.
It was not out of character, it was just really shitty writing and shooting
I think the objective of "scorched earth rule" is lost on some people. The idea isnt to simply win, it is to keep kicking after the person is begging for mercy and can no longer fight back or protect themselves.
except she freed most of her followers from slavery so how is it unearned
>It's just a shame most brainlets wont understand it and say season 8 was shit ONLY because of that
Season 8 and the show became irredeemable shit when Arya killed the Night King. This was just another nail in the coffin.
I didn’t have a problem with her burning KL but rather that she burned it after she claimed victory. I prefer bloody conqueror instead of madness
Ha ha, nope
She wasn't there for any profound reason, but because they wanted to follow the perspective of a main character while the peasants were getting slaughtered to make it more dramatic.
It does seem crazy that she'd be okay though. In one scene it looks like she gets totally fucked by fire, she should at least have severe burns but...
Alexander the Great wasn't known for losing his entire fleet to a teleporting bum pirate three times.
mfw this whole series is a cautionary tale about the dangers of weak men, feminism and messianic SJWs and it went right over their heads
you people are morons. it was set up for 7 1/2 seasons. if it was any more obvious she wouldn't have the support from tyrion, jon, jorah, etc she has and the audience would just be watching this go through the motions.
she has to be (on the surface) a hero before this for it to work, if it she obviously turned into ramsay bolton over the last 20 episodes the pre-finale would have been boring and anticlimactic. fuck off plebs
Or maybe Kings Landing represents the patriarchy power system and this was suppose to be a flex, but backfired, because it doesnt matter your affiliation or implied faction, innocents are innocents and killing them makes you a monster.
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw she was actually conciously targeting women and children in the street. I thought she was going for Cersei but nope. FUCK THOSE CIVILIANS.
I mean, having her burn the red keep and kill civilians as colateral damage is enough to have people doubt her sanity. They just overdid it by having her barbecue literally everyone. I guess the writers basically wanted to remove all shadows of a doubt for the viewer that she's going the way of her father.
>Uhm guys remember when she burned Samwise Tarley's DAD and BROTHER alive A WHOLE SEASON AGO
>And how UPSET she was and how SHE LITERALLY SAID she could only rule threw FEAR in the episode
>Yeah we might have been homaging Stanley Kubrick (he's like this really obscure filmmaker so don't worry if you don't gef the reference haha) for our series finale but we dropped a lot of subtle hints in the first three episodes that she was going to turn evil ;) go back and watch them again and see if you can pick up the subtle hints we told Emily to portray for us
t. David Benioff & DB Weiss
nah it was always obvious she would go the way of the mad king
the only thing that was "revealed" by this show is that all the self-inserting leftists are delusional sociopaths.
these fucking psychopaths look upon their pop tv/movies like gospel and religion, they're obsessed with self-inserting and pretending the "good guys" represent themselves or "their side" in real life. Everyone in GoT is evil and selfish, that's the whole show -- Daenarys was a tortured psychopath since the beginning, a monster. It says a lot about a person if they insert into this character without question.
these people are incomprehensibly deluded and evil, it's just shocking
>killing people to instil fear in them
>not bloody conquest, but madness
brainlet shut the fuck up. murdering people/terrorism is how bloody conquering happens
When have we ever been given indication that she'd killed civilians who surrender? Her killing Cersei even after surrendering is much more in line with her previous actions. I thought on paper Dany losing sanity because of her obsession with the throne was a good idea, but the execution was botched.
Well the issue has already been argued but it doesn't make any sense for Dany to want to glass King's Landing. Especially after they surrendered. I could see her destroying some big things and killing a lot of people, but after they surrender then why destroy the entire thing?
i mean if you think about it in absolutes it makes more sense, and it's a safer option. Why spare a city where people supported cersei , even if it was a minority of support, say 30% of the population approval rating.
best to wipe em all out, make your future safer.
She only killed slavers and traitors in the first 6 seasons. Jon executes criminals too, so did Ned. That doesn't set her up to be insane.
It's only in season 7 where she starts to lose her marbles by burning prisoners of war and shit.
Who is arguing that? It's not like she's going to get arrested for war crimes, she's going to be assassinated out of fear of what she'll do next.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Having no rules against it doesn't mean people won't pass judgement.
Personal revenge against innocent women and children?
yeah that's why when caesar took italy he genocided every town he came across
The problem isn't the why, the main complaint is how they went about it. It's a totally fine way to conclude her arc, it was just set up really poorly, or at least not in any satisfying and clever way.
>muh sanity
its supposed to make your blood curdle. youre supposed to be horrified. its the moment in the revolution when you find out the glorious leader is a mass murderer
if you didn't see that she had already lost her marbles at the gates of qarth you're honestly retarded
>youre supposed to be horrified
Anyone with half a brain saw her madness approaching. The way they finally did it was literally laughably bad.
There is a difference between an execution and crucifying someone, putting them on display on the road and letting them die.
A spider walks across my hand, I can squish the spider, or I can pull its legs off and then let it die on its own. There really is a difference in motive even if the end is the same result that it is dead.
I wasn't horrified, I was bewildered by how dumb it was
what does she do to literally anyone who doesnt bend the knee (and these people arent once everyone has their letter from varys show up in the mailbox)?
[and you did get a indication right before it, tyrion asks danerys to call off the attack if she hears bells and she doesnt respond]
>shes insane
LMFAOOOOOO. Was Tywin Lannister insane when his men were raping the people of King's Landing in the sack in Robert's Rebellion? Good grief this isn't star wars
On how many of those are thousands of innocent civilians murdered for no reason at all other than D&D going "haha look shocking ain't it? didn't see that one coming loool"
>Everyone in GoT is evil
No they aren't, they are supposed to be people with flaws. They do tons of evil and selfish things, but they don't act that way all of the time. Cersei loved her children, Roose Bolton and Tywin were really just trying to ensure their families survival and prosperity, etc. That's why the story was captivating before D&D starting wrecking it.
D&D need to wrap up the story quick time so they couldn't drag it on any longer with debatable morality. Dany had to become the worst person in the show immediately to get this shit over with in the six episode time span
>what does she do to literally anyone who doesn't bend the knee
They bent the knee. I get her torching Cersei, but everyone else was retarded
based Pyromaniac Queen
because shes not fucking insane you retards. shes killed them kids to make sure everyone knows to be properly terrified of her
This. Mad Queen could have been a good arc if they spent more time building it up so that her crossing the line was more believable and organic. Instead, it's like she has one bad day and that's it, war crime time. The shift is too sudden, to the point where it feels random and baseless.
This would have also been an interesting character trait if they spent more time developing it and showing how Dany's seemingly benevolent acts are closer to a PR campaign to win support and stroke her own delusions of destiny. "I am the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, I am noble & good, look at all these slaves I freed, the tyrants I've crushed, the wicked I've punished, etc", all while staring at herself in the mirror.
>d&d going
>Implying it isnt that grrm told them
You really think they are allowed to make up the ending? Last 2 episodes have been GRRM's material.
Westeros, and specifically King's Landing, always existed to Dany as an object that was related to her, as it was her family that created King's Landing, and she had been told since birth that the Seven Kingdoms belonged to her by right. It existed as an object she identified with. However, when she was confronted with the reality that the people of Westeros did not love and identify with her as part of the identity of the Seven Kingdom in the same way she identified with it, she was confronted with the reality that the object was separate. She decided that because the object that not just belonged to her, but was a part of her, was denying her and thus asserting its own identity, she regressed and chose to destroy the object. Whatever is left of the object, King's Landing and the Seven Kingdoms, she will be able to interact with as a separate object, because it is no longer the object that it was, and it no longer threatens her identity or autonomy.
>single handedly bring king's landing to their knees within the span of a few minutes making the entire city surrender
>"b-but she needed to kill innocents to make people afraid of her!"
>They bent the knee. I get her torching Cersei, but everyone else was retarded
Theyre going to try to remove her as soon as this is over, and they didnt depose cersei like she thought they would, and they dont love her with open arms as their true queen like she thought they would
How sore was Drogon's throat after spitting fire non-stop for hours and hours?
The only difference between someone that crucifies and burns people that 'deserves' it and 'innocents' is in the definition of INNOCENT.
But no matter what that person is still a mad person that BURNS & CRUCIFIES people.
Totally in character with Targs
Yes, her face right before she started the slaughter clearly showed intelligent, calculated design in her plans.
Fucktard. This was written by D&D. She's going mad, period.
Would've been okay with Mad Queen, but they would have to need like at least another season to pull that off.
There is waaaay too much in her character that makes a flip-switch like that impossible. It wasn't that long ago she said she didn't want to be queen of ashes. It's just poor writing...
You must be autistic to think this was built up well
>citizens think they are fine resisting dany as long as they dont openly defy her militarily, and even then are safe if they lay down their arms
>Based Targs get sabotaged and booted from their own kingdom that they built
>thinking they wouldn't be back to fuck shit up
Not as sore as danys when she gave him his reward UwU
>get booted from valyria
>get booted from westeros
>get bootes from essos
yeah i think the problem are the lannister...
>she went insane because of her angry facial expression
if she was insane she would be attacking hallucinations and smearing feces everywhere
I guarantee you'd realize it was if you watched the series in one big chunk. She only got 1 scene in most episodes, so it seems poorly built up over 9 years. But the progressive is clear when binge watching.
And screeching that other people are autists for not agreeing with you, just marks you are an autist or a child yourself.
i think the insane part if more about her burning her own subjects for no reason
>be sort of a liberation army
>kills the liberated
>Based Targs get sabotaged and booted from their own kingdom that they built
> first thing they do when they return is completely destroy it
But yah Dany's best friend was killed and she did an iffy thing a season or two ago so it totally make sense.
Going insane dosn't work like that brainlet.
> do you find acceptable to burn and crucify nazis?
> yes
> do you find acceptable to burn and crucify innocent children?
> what? who do you think I am? a monster?
> I think you are someone that finds acceptable to burn and crucify people, now I just want to find the limit
Im actually more interested in seeing how they resolve all this shit in one episode. I feel like mad Dany shouldve been a few episodes long at least. Im not talking about the buildup I mean people dealing with a mad ruler and the aftermath of what happened. One episode to wrap EVERYTHING up, I just cant see it happening and being good sadly.
Like, is it going to be 20 minutes to kill Dany, 10 minutes to have people reacting to the destruction, 10 minutes for people to react to who died, 20 for character interaction and who takes the throne process. This needed another few episodes for fuck sake, its become another LOST.
did you miss when lady olenna told her she would need "love and fear" and when dany said "I dont have love here, I only have fear.. alright, let it be fear."
its not like miss "forgot about the iron fleet" has ever been very intelligent or calculated or well planned you fuck
haha, based, cersei was right, the lannisters did nothing wrong, denitler was kind, what burning bodies? a whole city? i doubt it, where are the graves? it wasn't wildfire it was bug repellent you retards haha dab
This. It's rushed. I hate how this happens to so many shows. They want to keep it going for as long as the money is flowing so they don't plan out the ending until they realize they are on their last season and need to wrap everything up. That's why we get things like Arya teleporting behind the NK, Jaime completely reversing his character development because Brienne is so bad at sex, and Dany wanting to burn innocent children to death just because she's mad at Cersei.
ITT people who hate women so much they’ll justify some of the worst writing on TV. GOT is now sharknado tier.
Dany going evil is fine but the execution was pure shit.
>It makes sense that she would kill a million nnocent people for no reason because she was cruel to the guys that hurt the innocent. Not like her entire character is built around protecting the innocent or anything
Kill yourself
>implying she gives a shit about liberating people over her own ambitions of power for its own sake
she wont even let the north have its hard won independence despite saving the fucking world
theres also the fact shes been rejected by her lover who has a rightful claim to the throne and betrayed by her advisors and her best friend and first lieutenant was killed and her former lovers sister is plotting against her and she has no friends in Westeros because nobody likes her :(
There isn’t even anyone left to be afraid of her they’re all dead. Also she completely fucking leveled the city she came to rule. She’s the one who has to clean that whole fucking mess up.
Yeah slavers and it's established she hates them with a passion. Where is it said that she hates regular townspeople that much?
Remember when Hitler freed all the slaves? And saved all the raped women? And remember when Hitler postponed his invasion of a capital because he didn't want innocent people killed? And remember when Hitler chained his mutant lizards because he couldn't accept that his pets had killed a child? And remember when Hitler saved us all from an undead threat while Stalin just decided to not help because Stalin was still focused on the territority they were fighting over?
They werent booted from valyria. They ran away because one of them had dreams of the Doom and they didnt want to be wiped the fuck out.
its not rushed at all. literally brainlet excuse. s6-s7-s8 have a combined 23 episodes to adapt 2 books worth of events. nowhere near as bad as s5 almost adapting 2 books in 10 episodes.
>long ago she said she didn't want to be queen of ashes
>what is irony
>she doesn't know hitler was the good guy
100% in character. Been building for seasons and the tipping point was hinted previously in the episode when she stated that noone loved her, she was an invader to them. When the bells rang she realized that even though she had won she would never be loved by the people and she rules by fear alone.
All of her advisers are dead or on the way out, she has very few loyal subjects left. She hit boiling point and decided that burning them all as a tyrannical conqueror was how she would leave her mark.
also crazy.
Dumb&Dumber spent two seasons inserting the current year feminist agenda
Dumb&Dumber sure don't like GRRM ending because it goes against the agenda
Dumb&Dumber wanted to end it fast
Of course everything looks rushed and doesn't make sense, Dumb&Dumber butchered the story because muh agenda
What does Hitler have to do with any of this?
How were the civilians resisting her? They were just hiding inside. What were they expected to do? Cause a civil war against the army with pots and bricks?
westeros is a fucking continent of tens of millions of people while the entire population of kings landing is 500k
Yes it is absolutely rushed. I don't care what the book to episode ratio is. The story is rushed. They had a lot of loose ends at the start of season 8, they had an idea for what they wanted to happen, and to get there they had to rush some things.
The problem isn't Danny doing it, it's the execution. Being a crazy bitch that goes murder beast has been built up for a while, worse in the show than the books but still. The problem is her motives for killing have always had, well motives up untill this point. There's no good reason to littleraly melt kings landing, her only gripe was with the bitch queen, not the citizens. And if they wanted her to blame them for her lez fuck buddy they could have set that up. But they didn't, so none of what happened makes sense.
This. The only way to attempt to reach a logical explanation is through baseless assumptions
they are going to resist her because the truth about jon snow is spreading. you are so fucking retarded it hurts. leave my board
She already killed Varys to ensure that information would stop spreading
I really just wish it wasn't so sudden and unprovoked. How hard would it have been for Cersei to have one last trick up her sleeve after the surrender. A final 'fuck you' to Dany that just sets her off.
DO YOU THINK IT'S HONOR THAT KEEPS THE PEACE?! IT'S FEAR! FEAR AND BLOOD!
Who knows how many letters he succesfully sent before they interrupted him and brought him to Dany.
It's out there, it's just a matter of time before it spreads. Still it doesn't mean shit if Jon doesn't want the title so I don't know why the fuck spreading the word would change anything.
Despite being 13% of the population Kings landing is responsible for 50% of the crime
Dany did a good thing
Yeah but the rest of westeros doesn't exist in the show anymore
You're mostly right, but they tried to telegraph that no one would accept her rule and the people would follow Jon. Only through absolute bloodshed and fear could she be queen.
I'm not even mad about het going insane. I'm still annoyed they have 50% of Unsullied, Northernmen AND Dothraki after E3. Everyone was fucking dead. They showed no scenes of any army still resisting.
>lol jk our armies are still at 50% strength!
Fuck OFF
He wrote multiple letters that are on their way right now. She has no way of just easily murdering Sansa, Arya, Tyrion, and Jon before they tell more people
cersei wouldn't surrender, it's not all on dany
I think the main indicator that not everything will go to plan always seemed obviously the fact that no matter what she was hellbent on being queen of westeros. Everything she did was for this end goal, she was bitter, entitled and wouldn't have it anyway, which should have always been obviously a massive point of conflict given this is in no way a noble goal, and clearly she would have done anything necessary to get it. The thing most people didn't want to think about was what would happen if literally anything got in her way? Which obviously something was going to, she was never just going to sail up, kill cersei and declare herself queen, so what did anyone expect? At no point do we ever see her concede, or compromise in terms of power, she wouldn't even let the fight pits open because she just didn't like the idea, until she was pretty much forced to.
The problem is with the way DnD framed every decision with epic music like she was some epic powerful leader, with nobody even giving a concerned look. With similar decisions made by others, like when Robb stark killed the karstark guy for the murder of those kids, or when Jon beheaded Janos Slynt, this youtu.be
Would have been well done if she HAD to kill civilians to get to Cersei, as episode 4 hinted with them going inside the red keep to be used as human shields.
But targeting civilians outside the castle and burning the whole city just makes no fucking sense.
The books clearly made her begin to go fucking psycho you retard. Did you even read them? GRRM is not going to give them an ending out of line with the books
compare it with this music - youtu.be
>it would be well done if the evil character wasnt actually evil and we got a lord of the rings style heroic monarch grand ascension only that this time the orcs had some human shields
this show is dogshit now
It was fucking retarded and handled in the worst way possible
Step 1. Spend 7 seasons building up a clear moral threshold that Dany isn’t willing to cross (killing innocents: she flips the fuck out when Drogon kills a kid)
Step 2. dAnY cRoSsEd tHe ThReShOlD! ShE’s eViL nOw! xDD
Step 3. Give the finger to ‘Thrones’ audience and make millions from the new Star Wars cash cow
At least in the books there are interesting reasons why she might go insane in the books (people are manipulating her via astral projection) but “not getting muh Jon Snow cummies” is NOT an intriguing reason for insanity. I feel fucking embarrassed and ashamed for introducing my friends to this series, they hate me now.
that picture isn't accurate at all, it gives the writers way too much credit for shit they never even thought of.
The problem is the reason she goes mad is under developed and fucking retarted. Danny was a tyrant, but she wasn't a psychotic killer. We need insanity to show her thinking of the people of kings landing as guilty, or breaking down and just wanting to let it all burn. We got neither.
Wish they had an actual 15 years old playing the part.
This could have been easily fixed by killing Rhaegar off with a ballista while the bells were tolling.
Yeah lmao she brings her savage armies and dragons across the sea to actually be very nice to the innocents and no pillage or rape will take place and the armies of the lands she invades won't be made up of drafted peasants.
>I feel fucking embarrassed and ashamed for introducing my friends to this series, they hate me now.
They shouldn't. As numerous people have said, seasons 1-4 of GoT were to television, as World of Warcraft was to gaming.
So what you're saying is that it was shit writing that was poorly justified because it changes nothing? Got it
A mistake of enormous proportions?
>it was shit writing that was poorly justified because it changes nothing
that's basically GoT in a nutshell after they ran out of source material.
Especially the last 2 seasons.
against whole King's Landing
I know. This was just even more egregious because it was the end of the Lannister conflict
truely its because its called kings landing and not queens landing
it had to be destroyed for feminism
Germany was in the grip of the Great Depression with a population suffering from poverty, misery, and uncertainty, amid increasing political instability.
For Hitler, the master speech maker, the long awaited opportunity to let loose his talents on the German people had arrived. He would find in this downtrodden people, an audience very willing to listen. In his speeches, Hitler offered the Germans what they needed most, encouragement. He gave them heaps of vague promises while avoiding the details. He used simple catchphrases, repeated over and over.
[every mass shooting/terror/genocide/etc event in history]
What do they have against innocent women and children? What kind of shit writing is this?
He also printed his own money instead of relying on (((international banking cartels))) which then used their influence to destroy the man
read up on why poland was invaded (hint jews in poland killing germans and poland refusing to do anything)
read up on hitler offering peace to the british
It was printing his own money that started the war
Yeah wouldnt be surprised if she razed the city with the intention of fucking off back to Essos afterwards because she realized how much easier it was to be a despot is in the desert.
u morons realize this bitch is fucking 16-18 years old right
>why did my kid go on a murder spree... they never did that before
thats how u sound
It's really fucking simple: Dany had nothing left to lose and thought her only chance of securing the throne now was to make the realm and her retainers afraid of her.
>B-but she has never done this before! It's out of character
Dany has been set up to be a coldhearted and ruthless bitch since season 1. She's capable of great kindness, but when she wants something, there's nothing that will stop her getting it. See: all her actions in Essos
>B-but they were evil slavers! She's never killed innocents before!
Dany's only option now is to rule by fear. Her entire shtick has been "muh birthright", but now she knows that Jon has a stronger claim - and the realm loves Jon. In her mind, taking the throne peacefully would end in a short rule before she is deposed in favor of Jon. Varys was already doing this.
She made a horrendous decision. But it didn't come out of nowhere. She's shown ruthless tendencies in the past and with her inner circle shrinking and her claim slipping away from her, she made the decision to demonstrate her power to keep Jon, her retainers, and the people in line. It will never work. But it wasn't complete madness.
