There is a very clear cut example here, of what I am saying. Dany burned the entire city of King's Landing. Everyone in it died. After she's used her dragon to reduce the whole city to rubble, she lands her dragon, and then discovers that she is queen of...what, exactly?

They really fucked up her character arc. Throughout all the early seasons we saw her struggle with her insane incest genes, she would have emotional outbursts and things would happen to her that would cause her a lot of emotional stress, which then would cause her to act irrational.
Then when they run out book material her entire character arc stops, she just becomes an emotionless robot. She never acts irrational because she is just letting others handle it as she sits there staring at the sky.
Her going crazy and paranoid would have made perfect sense if they didn't forget about it for 3 seasons.
The way she was acting in this episode would have fit much better 3 seasons ago.

It's funny, but when I watched Dany burning everything, I didn't have any real emotional response at all. There was just nothing.
I'm pretty sure it's because when she tried to kiss Jon and he stiffened up with fear, and she said "all right then, fear it is," my mental response to her was, "you're already dead. You just don't know it yet."
What I mean is that although I'm largely a recluse, to the degree that I do interact with people, I generally try and do so on the basis of reciprocal ethics; i.e., that it's best for me to only get what I want, when other people are also getting what they want. The reason why I have that attitude is because I am primarily interested in survival, and I know that the best chance for me to survive, is by making sure that other people around me also do, so that they're there when I need them.
When Dany burned KL, she violated the above principle, and she really started seriously violating it when she burned Randyll Tarly. So I knew from my own experience that as a result of that, it was only a matter of time until she was going to die, and so I had no emotional response to it as it was happening. For me it was just cause and effect at that point.
