TFW I'll never understand the joy of Harry Potter

who cares you'll be the first person on Yea Forums to have had sex soon

As if you’re missing out on anything

I hated it because everybody liked it but secretly like the first movie as a kid. Nothing was more eye opening when I got into highschool and we would have "movie days" with the newer harry potters and they were all about teenage love triangles and stupid shit. It's like the author purposefully crafted the books to latch on to people as they grew up and never let go.

>left elementary school right before the first book was released

Were you never a child mistreated by the world, because of circumstances out of your control? Didn't you ever lack a sense of belonging, because of this? Don't you wish there was more to this world; a place you escape to? Don't you wish your pain had a reason, and that you fight back against the cause?

Just be happy that you are a white good looking heterosexual male.

>it's like the author purposefully crafted the books to be relatable by her target audience
how dare she

The first one was decent enough but it turned into YA-tier garbage pretty quickly.

You will

It was the lowest possible effort and manipulative. Just like those vampire books

>writing book about teens doing teen stuff is so manipulative

My teacher read the first book to us when it came out in 5th grade. We even had a few kids get exceptions from it for religious reasons or something. kek. I never got into it either. I did end up watching all the movies though, because I have literally no social life at all. I fell asleep before the end of every single movie. I did start watching them late at night, though.

>taking fantasy born from tragedy and turning it into wish fulfillment to make money isn't manipulative

I'm happy for you user.

I've always been kind of a joyless sperg, but all harry potter ever gave me was an easy A in reading class.

if you put things like that anything is manipulative

>read along with the books until the publishing gap between 4 and 5
>become older than the characters in the interim
>book 5 starts with the Prime Minister drinking tea or some shit
Dropped it then and there. I just wanted mysteries in a wizard school I don't give a shit about Voldemort

First book was cool. Creepy castle with monsters. Everything else gradually sucked (teen romance, black cloaked dumbasses, etc.)

My cunt ex made me read them and I got through the first three. They all seemed the same
>Harry having normal times at school
>bad or weird shit starts happening
>turns out it’s Mr. X at the school
>Harry fucks him up using his Gary Stu powers
>back to normal school times
>oh btw Mr. X has some relation to Voldemort

Even though the protagonist was a male, I feel like it was only chicks who got obsessed with these books when I was growing up. I was prime age for these books I would assume. First book was published when I was 8. Obviously the author was a chick, but did the writing style have something that would be more gear towards chicks than guys? I didn't know one friend of mine growing up who read the books or saw the movies.
