They some really good parts and a lot of bad filler. Fan edits exist which take out the bad stuff and leave you with a good adaption. It's still not LoTRs quality, but it's much better and shorter than the theatrical versions.

no one important dies. Just watched return of the king for the first time today and I couldn't help but feel like there was massive plot armor surrounding most of the important characters . Not even gandalf dies, not even frodo or fucking sam. I guess it's supposed to be a feel good type of fantasy but it lacked tension.

Letting Raimi direct was a bold move. Casting Bruce Campbell as Hitler was a stroke of genius though.
