I'm sort of conflicted where I stand in regards to her character. On the one hand, she's always been shown to be brash and quick to irrational decisions, only stopped from making poor choices by her advisers. On the other hand, she's never been necessarily sadistic and seemed general more evened out by Jon in season seven. In the end I think it's far more interesting narratively to have her as the final antagonist of the series, rather than Cersei. In all actuality I think they should've made the long night a far more overbearing threat that somehow would've tied in with Cersei and King's Landing in the end, but hey, whatever I guess.

I agree with the analysis, but I don't agree that it was purposely woven into the show with any sort of nuance. The scenes of her unable to control the rampaging dragons were stapled in and treated with no gravitas, while the scenes of her burning her enemies were constantly accompanied by victorious music and yas queen quip dialogue designed for facebook reaction gifs until ~1 season ago.
No I don't buy that this was done as a clever trick to have the viewer buy into her story. The clearer threads of moral ambiguity that you mention (and things like the crucifixions, burning the tarleys, etc.) are either diluted by the comical evil of other characters or general gray tone of the world in which even Starks behead people for muh rules.

I'm still in actual shock. How did they make an episode that bad. Everything about it was poor, things made no sense, Cleganbowl was a fucking CW tv show tier shit show. I don't know. I'm blown away at how hard this show has fallen.

In the show she's always conquored through the strength of the people around her(including her dragons). She ruled mereen with an iron fist following her own morality rather than the will of the people she believed she saved. She was never a good character, simply put in that light by the producers

I think GRRburger is either done or almost done with TWOW and has been waiting for the show to finish before releasing it, likely because of a clause in his contract with HBO. If he released a book in the middle of them filming season 6-8, it would have been a massive problem for them as it would have revealed how fucked their show has become from the books. The way the show has gone is all thanks to them saying "well we ran out of material, we have to make it all up now!"
