Let's be realistic, in Jackson's movie even the setting is better it was a great idea to go back to 1933. Skull Island at least had the decency not to rehash the same one story for the fourth time but what it gave us wasn't particularly memorable.

Jackson's King Kong was an honestly pretty good adaptation of the original, albeit with some outdated CGI and the fucking terrible dinosaur bowling scene
Skull Island was by no means great but was at least consistent and told a very different Kong story
Overall Jackson's is better but they're completely different movies and both deserve a watch

I think we would be much better off if trailers were just the first 5 minutes of a movie. Would allow you to get the feel of the movie without revealing any major plot points and would prevent instances like Drive and The Grey happening where the trailer didn't match the movie so people walked away disappointed.
