The show is perfect. It's going exactly as intended. I'll explain why, in reference to two of the biggest complaints in season 8.
But first, I have to mention what game of thrones is truly about. GRRM always intended ASOIAF to be a negation of classical fantasy as exemplified by The Lord of the Rings. In LOTR, we have characters with great destinies, such as Arogorn. Arogorn was always destined to be a king, it's his right by birth and prophecy. In ASOIAF, we have two characters with a similar role (at the first glance), Jon and Dany. It seems like Dany is destined to be a great savior, the whole world aligns for her to fulfill her great destiny as the breaker of chains. Similarly, Jon is also destined by prophecy for greatness. GRRM clearly established these characters, with the chosen one trope, to later negate it.
Dany, who had an easy run with everything falling into place and believed herself to be some great savior because of it, has now finally started facing true failure. Faced with the harsh reality of the world, the chaos of the world, her delusions of destiny have been shown to be just that. Jon was set up as the great warrior who will destroy the night king, but prophecy doesn't mean shit when there's a huge undead dragon in the way. To put it quite simply: the chaos of life > prophecy. We are told multiple times by characters that prophecies are often bullshit and that's exactly what has happened. DND have stayed true to Martin's vision of subverting traditional fantasy.

Arya killing the Night King wasn't a problem at all. I had long figured Arya might do it, though I also suspected Jaime "Kingslayer" Lannister might have slayed himself another king. The problem was that Jon's investment with the Night King meant NOTHING, not even enough for him to get a few blows in.

The problem with the show in general is that, while the shock moments of the first few seasons were a great way to change course in the early story lines, the continued efforts to stomp out tropes and subvert expectations is undoing storylines when there isn't enough left to actually undo. Nothing feels like it has a pay off.
