Why do writers keep trying to make characters geniuses? It never comes across as natural, they're never shown to have intense work ethic or problem solving ability (which is what actual extremely smart people have) they're always just shown as knowing some random pieces of trivia or building WACKY gadgets.

The whole show shows how malcom is smart but also a kid, so he thinks he knows better and is an asshole. He also gets shoved into nerd class and since he is lower class thinks the rest of the people are dorks and is antagonistic to all his teachers.
