Pretentious garbage.
Pretentious garbage
___ to ___
How?
A good film to watch when you're young to steer you away from heroin.
I agree, it was decent enough but it certainly wasn't as clever as it seemed to think it was
I wouldn't call it pretentious because it doesn't aim to do anything it doesn't succeed in doing
The films of Alejandro Inarritu, for example, and the man himself, are pretentious
Your typical “9000 edits” pretentious montage, building up for a very obvious (and very cheap) quadruple shock-content ending. Another one of those very artsy yet very shallow flicks. Style over substance at its finest.
I really liked the scene when he talks to his mom
It wasn’t bad, certainly enjoyable in its own way, just nothing close to being genius.
They seem a lot better produced, rather than pretentious. The revenant, for example, was just mediocre, and an obvious Oscar bait, rather than just pretentious.
It's was good if you watched it when it came out and you were in your teens. Doesn't hold up as well as trainspotting as far as anti drug movies go.
finally someone said it
>i have a good life but i took drugs and now its not good boohoo :'((
fuuuck you
Inaritu's stuff is pretentious moreso in its themes and dialogue and the director's insistence on "artistry" when essentially being a b genre director who excels at grindhouse scenes moreso than actual art
The revenant for example, was an all-american mythology that he then bastardized to make into a "le noble savage" flick and a condemnation of american trade and frontiersmen and simultaneously injecting pointless "art" scenes and one of the most offensive ending shots in recent cinema
And in interviews the man is entirely a hack, and it bleeds into his work
Maybe you are right, I don’t watch interviews, I just judge the creators’ body of work in its pure form, couldn’t care less what they have to say outside of their 2 hours of screen time.
Oh fuck off, it was good

holy shit, this is the most retarded post i've ever seen on all of Yea Forums, these are unironically the type of people who fucking browse Yea Forums, fuck me. i bet you saw the term "style over substance" in a fucking Now You See It youtube video and decided to impress your fellow marvelboys. i really don't fucking understand retards like you, the way it's edited may not be typical, but there is NOTHING ambigious or vague about it. there is almost no extra meaning that the movie tries to convey to you, which let me remind you is the meaning of the word "pretentious". the substance is there, you don't have to make an angry Yea Forums thread about it if you try to look for more meaning and isn't there, the style in this case heightened the substance and made it more powerful (for me anyway, that's subjective), but you can't argue that the story was lacking and style tried to make up for it.
tl;dr you're a fucking mouthbreather.
Mmmmm...good pasta
>you don't have to make an angry Yea Forums thread about it
>proceeds with a paragraph long angry comment
Irony
>there is NOTHING ambigious or vague about it
>you can't argue that the story was lacking and style tried to make up for it
The whole story is “drugs are bad, mkay”, repeated for 2 hours. It’s shallow and simplistic, yet tries to be some deep tragic movie. That’s pretentious.
>tl;dr you're a fucking mouthbreather
You can’t even into reading comprehension, my guy, go watch Avengers or something, relax.
just like everything Yea Forums pretends to like
It impressed me when I was a teen. I don't know if I would like it now and I have no intention of rewatching it.
>a tragic story of four people's lives spiraling out of their control is pretentious
What's next?
>serious reply to pasta
imagine being this reddit
It's definitely not as clever as it wants to be. Also, I can't watch it anymore. The editing, locations, music, overall style, it just REEKS of 2000. It feels so goddamn dated.
When I finished watching it I thought it was almost comical in how absurd the situations had gotten (every single thing spirals to the worst possible hellish scenario, nothing is reasonable) and left simply thinking it was silly instead of being shocked out of my mind. I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone ever though to include that fucking double dildo scene.
There are better films depicting drug addiction, like Trainspotting, better films depicting loneliness/being directionless, like Llewyn Davis, better films depicting loneliness becoming madness, like Taxi Driver, better films depicting mental illness, like One Flew Over, and the list goes on. Everything it tries to do, it does so badly.
Is this a comedy?
Terrible movie, so is Eternal Sunshine. Never seen Trainspotting because the same faggots that nut over the other two nut over that one but because of that I can safely say it is garbage too.
>"my favorite film song is Requiem for a Dream, particularly the psytrance remix, truly a masterpiece in my book, period."
Are you really that easy to impress?
It’s okay, I just hope the guy who posted it got a good laugh out of this.
kek, nice
watched it 6-7 times growing up. still on heroin
based
>90's NYC/Coney Island shots
only redeeming aspect of this movie
cheek __ cheek
ASS TO ASS
Just like any kind of arthouse.
I didn't need this movie to decide not to do heroin.
Really? It was out of their control? Someone forced them to do heroin at gunpoint over and over again until they got addicted?
Was I suppose to feel bad for the protagonists?
nah youre supposed to feel revulsion
When all your protagonists are retarded and the movie is a drama and not a comedy, your movie is gonna be shit.
i watched this in my teens and still ended up doing meth
Other than Ass to Ass, this movie is complete garbage.
whats 2020's remake version of this scene?
Thanks for the input, Joe Blow
DICK TO DICK
>Aronofsky was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, New York, the son of teachers Charlotte and Abraham Aronofsky,[8][1] and grew up in the borough's Manhattan Beach neighborhood.[9][10] He said he was "raised culturally Jewish, but there was very little spiritual attendance in temple. It was a cultural thing—celebrating the holidays, knowing where you came from, knowing your history, having respect for what your people have been through."
