A small piece like this wouldn't be too dangerous on your hand or close to you but you would be fucked if you breathed it in or swallowed it. I don't think RBMKs are pressurized reactors like the normal US ones, RBMKs use graphite instead of water as the moderator and uses boiling water as the coolant, has a large positive thermal coefficient of reactivity, that increases heat generation when coolant water temperatures increase. This makes the RBMK design less stable than pressurized water reactors. One of the main reasons this happened was that the water around the reactor wasn't under pressure so it was able to boil off and then with the carbon moderators in there that increased the power generation.

I THINK but don't know that the turbines are powered directly from the water in the RBMK. Trying to find a diagram to see one way or another.

By taking iodine pills you saturate your system, which means radioactive iodine can't bind to receptors.
According to another user in an older thread, red wine contains strontium, which has roughly the same effect.
Caesium though, I have no idea how you can avoid it.
