I fucking love Oasis, but you only ever hear Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova in the states.
it was one of their biggest hits after wonderwall and champagne supanover here
oasis is pretentious garbage m8, get that shit out of here
>make a song called Don't Look Back in Anger

the songs about a gril not a brother m8
>I fucking love Oasis, but you only ever hear Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova in the states.
Nowadays, but like ~10 years ago and Live Forever still got played fairly regularly alongside whatever other requisite 20 Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day tracks were still in regular rotation among newer stuff. Also Supersonic and Morning Glory too whenever my local alt station had their specialty 90s throwback hour for the more lesser known hits.
Plus that one "Shock of the Lightning" song they had got some play too for a few months when it came out.
americans have heard of Oasis but they have absolutely no idea who Robbie Williams is
Blur were better
TODAY IS GONNA BE THE DAY
>americans have heard of Oasis but they have absolutely no idea who Robbie Williams is
He did that james bond type song though
Oasis or Bloor?
Most Oasis 'fans' haven't even heard of kino like Listen Up or Let's all Make believe.

Rock DJ is my jam
he had a big hit here with Millennium
the only thing that matters is oasis calling him fat made him nearly kill himself

they still play this on the radio in portland because i hear it at least once, if not twice a week at my job

Wish they released a new album which just had all their b-sides remastered.
The Masterplan still misses a bunch.
Pulp beat the shit out of both of them artistically
>make one album and maybe3 songs that anyone cares about

I think not.

youtube.com
Zoomers these days don't even realise that Oasis was a band that was 10x better live (for the songs Liam could still handle).
Why is Yea Forums envious by the fact that Oasis got invited to parties and do cocaine, you virgins?
Go to bed Jarvis
It's sad how British pop culture has declined since. I remember growing up and it seemed like every week there was a cool new band. What happened?
Don't Go Away is one of their most popular songs though isn't it?
I'm really surprised that stuff like that doesn't get used more in TV/movies.
Is anyone else other than Britain and America even trying?
>tfw never went to see Oasis live when my mates did

Is it?
I used to hear it a lot back when it was first out, but literally have not heard it in like 20 years or so. Never comes up on the radio or on Spotify 90s playlists or in public places. The only time I did was when NBC or whatever reran that SNL 90s special with them playing it at the very end.
youtube.com
johnny english is an underrated trilogy
Got to see them live 6 times and party w Liam once after a show in 99. Highlight of my life :^]
No.
this was a popular song, moron, not a huge hit but it got decent video play. you'd never hear it on the radio though.
Dunno, last time I checked Don't Go Away on youtube there were a bunch of teenage girls saying how beautiful Liam was in the comments.

Fuck, there was a year in the middle 90s, one whole year, where I swear the only songs that were legally allowed to be played on radio or tv was songs by the Spin Doctors or Dave Matthews Band. Only those 2 bands.
I hear it on the radio in Minneapolis as well.
Why hasn't britain been able to produce a good artist in last two decades?

Depends on your definition of good. British music still sells by the hundreds of millions globally.
Yeah but what, 'grime'?
>whomever

I don't think we'll get another band like Oasis unless globalism gets fucked in the arse at some point.
There's too much money in propping up shite bands internationally these days.
If you are on about record sales, Adele and Ed Sheeran shit on everyone except Taylor Swift
No, similar to what it always has been - pop and pop-rock.
That and Hootie and the fucking Blowfish
>white bois never hear this before
This man is a national treasure
>not a huge hit but it got decent video play. you'd never hear it on the radio though.
this was definitely on mtv quite a bit, and at least in my area on the radio some but not as much as the other two songs.
Ah, there we go. This can be blamed on the Jews too, I see. Sad about your boy Tommy, by the way.
youtube.com
My local alt station also played this but I don't think it was really a hit at all in America as nobody I know seems to remember this song and I don't remember every seeing the video for it on tv.

Friendly reminder the American national anthem's tune is taken from an English drinking song.
I liked a lot of songs on the album but I just miss old Liams voice every time I listen to it.

Gas panic and roll it over are great.
They played this on 120 minutes quite a bit.
This album is definition of underrated kino

youtube.com
Who was in the wrong here?
B A S E D
God G-Mex was unreal.
One of the things I find most interesting about Oasis is how every fan has a different favourite Liam voice since it changes so much over the years.
My favourite is 1994, but I like 1995 too.
youtube.com
Noel, like the boring cunt he is, always sounds the same.
Honestly SOTSOG era Liam's voice is still better than literally a couple of years later. He sounds absolutely horrible on Stop Crying Your Heart Out.
Hot take: His vocal ability in technical terms was already declining in '94. And his change into the hyper-nasal singing after early '96 or so made it worse and sounded bad.
lol wut? they were always a top hit in the early 2000s. Guess im just old? But yeah a handful of their songs were Radio/MTV TRL regulars.
I hear the Dandy Warhols are a bunch of faggots.
youtube.com
>Oasis
>TRL
I don't think they ever got played on their once. It was always like Britney or Eminem or like Korn or some shit. They were already washed up by the time it started airing anyway.
Also Blues Traveler
They're shit, but the worst thing about them is that they opened the floodgates for dozens of shit indie bands and that cancerous 'cool brittania' period. Ocean Colour Scene, Supergrass, Shed Seven etc. Fucking aural aids.
I remember Some Might Say already being sang differently in 95.

youtube.com
Album had lots of bangers.
they were actually good though
>tfw Shed Seven split up

>neighboring zoomers lose sleep to this
grime has gotten a bit of a push here though I've only mainly heard it in video games, so not really a direct push if that really.
LET ME HEAR YOU SAY YEEEAAAAH
The Dutch are the only ones who can compete with the Brits in terms of electro music.
delete that pic
No it's not dude.
That song was fucking trash and killed whatever hype the band still had after all the "I hate my brother We quit the tour" bullshit. That shit got old really fast and they didn't have the music to back it up. I remember one of my friends actually bought the album and then literally threw it out two days later. It was shit.
I'm listening to this song you've posted and it's unlistenable. Basically no hook, a bajillion guitars at once, drums are barely even there, way too long and repetetive, singer sounds really nasally. This shit does not pass muster at all.
I fucking hate Oasis.
Blur all the way!

You're not even an Oasis fan, you don't like their style of music.

>You're not even an Oasis fan, you don't like their style of music.
>Why are you even commenting like you know what you're talking about?
>Post some modern music that you like.
Man I grew up listening to alternative shit, don't even give me that nonsense. I wasn't a big Oasis fan but I liked the songs they did off the Morning Glory album decently enough. They just pissed me off a lot after that.
I don't listen to modern music much.
American here. This is their best song.
Name some that were actually BORN in London and didn't just move there.
Live Forever is the most recognizable one for me.
>pissed me off
t. triggered mutt wants his bands to be lil bitches
You don't even like their first album?
It's one of the best debuts of all time.
Why the fuck is Slide Away suddenly everyones favourite Oasis song? I've literally not heard a single person mention this song in 20 years, then its number 4 on that Radio X thing and everyone loves it out of nowhere. What happened?
Okay here's something americans have actually never heard about
>You don't even like their first album?
I don't think I ever heard anything off of it besides Live Forever
>Name some that were actually BORN in London and didn't just move there.
He's got a good point
Another American here, no it is not because that song is bad. I have a masters degree in British pop music.

Some french asshole played wonderwall acoustic at my graduation. Fuck you for bringing over this shit, you deserve all the shit we've peddled on you.
Did anyone actually buy this album?
were they even big outside benelux
>then its number 4 on that Radio X thing and everyone loves it out of nowhere.
Not sure what that is?!
They did a top 100 British songs ever voted for by listeners and Slide Away was 4th, took me completely by surprise as the only time I had ever heard the song was listening to the album on CD in 1998, let alone anyone ever talking about it, even massive Oasis fans who wont shut up about their favourite songs.
>t. never left his house when oasis were popular
Now it's too late.
youtube.com
this music video always gave me the feels
Literally the Oasis song of choice for people who are just getting into them beyond the hits
Why do you think both Liam and Noel still play it in their sets?
None of watched Our Friends in the North
Sure did. Had some good b-sides too.
Cringe or based?
huh? this was part of the cruel intentions soundtrack... from what i remember the video had clips from the movie in it.
this tbf
>They did a top 100 British songs ever voted for by listeners and Slide Away was 4th
Yeah that is pretty surprising. Like I said its one of my favourite Oasis songs but didn't think it was for most people. I guess a lot of people just listen to the whole album and realised that the really liked it. But yeah coming #4 in best ever British songs is surprising
Friendly reminder Harrison was the best Beatle.
haha holy shit i forgot about this video
it's like the fucking "money for nothing" or sledgehammer but way worse.
it's like all the "new beatles" shit went right to their head.

Oasis are not on the same level of renown as them outside of England though. Oasis' contemporaries here would be some mid-level 90s alt band. Like one tier below Smashing Pumpkins.
What about their main influence?

For me, it was 2 Become 1.
It was extremely common to write songs or adapt poems to the tune of widely known drinking songs. They would plaster lyrics to the walls of bars, and it would say "to the tune of ." That way you could distribute the lyrics and anyone could sing it without having to be able to read music.

Indeed. I hated them as a kid because of overexposure but I love them now.
I mean pitchfork stopped caring about white people music but there is still plenty of great indie rock being made. Its just odd how little influence England has in the rock world these days, off the top of my head I cannot think of a single top tier rock band from England post-Arctic Monkeys
its literally the only genre currently making anything worth listening to

Last great indie rock band for me was Deerhunter but they fell off hard
Most of my favorite rock bands today are American
Like Parquet Courts, Deerhunter, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Kurt Vile, Mike Krol, Ought, The Men
Hell even Australia with Tame Impala (though they are becoming decidedly less rock) seems to be having better output than the UK.
and actually an Irish album is my favorite non-US rock album this year from Fontaines DC

Nah.
The other two were good though.
Coldplay are actually alright in hindsight, and at least they could write songs unlike Keane, Travis, The Fray, etc. Nowadays I'd kill to have a band like early Coldplay in the charts/on radio again, but back then they were fucking corny compared to the Strokes or White Stripes or whatever nu metal.

to be fair, old Muse was actually good
The War on Drugs is based too.
Common People and Disco 2000 fart all over any amount of Oasis wailing.
I only know Muse from Origin of Symmetry which I thought was very good.
All good but honestly peaked in the early half of this decade or tail end of the last. There's been a big drop off since about 2013/2014
gay
Pulp were a meme band with 3 good songs loved by teenage girls and metrosexuals.
agreed also while I think they have tailed off recently Titus Andronicus deserves a mention

Boy, when you put it like that it reads like a joke.
