Same, it was shit, my 8 year old loved it though but I'm sure half the people posting on here are 8

why are you posting like you're part of Yea Forums and not just some pleb numale from /vp/?

Disney shills in full panic mode I see

>Just came back from watching this
i dont believe you you fucking shill!

I don't watch capeshit kid, I also don't seek out Ryan Reynolds CGI trash, which typically is capeshit but this time is pokeshit

Brought my son to see it. He has never seen anything Pokemon before, but he loved it. Me and my wife thought it was pretty stupid though.

It was adorable.

Cool I'll watch it for free on my laptop.

it's a 2 hour lolcat?

pokebump

How do Pokemon tards feel about Pikachu's design ? I never had anything to do with that crap but I'm fucking disappointed, it looks like a cheap chinese plushy.

Looked great to me. The pokemon all looked great apart from the hyper realistic Mr Mime.

Looks good.

>POKEMON!!!!!

Fuck you this will always be kino

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-05-11 at 6.14.05 PM.png (245x370, 225K)

I also saw it with my wife's daughter, she loved it!

kek'd

fuck you, all these years of unbearable capeshit, let me have my manchild moment for once

Confirmed
Despite my pessimism it is a great film.

The ending was pretty fucking stupid, they should have gone withe something less over-the-top and more logical. But other than that it was very enjoyable.

>be 18
>get the guts to ask a girl on a date (we had been grouped up in a project and so I was basically forced to talk to her, the only girl I spoke to during my entire time at university)
>she accepts
>go to restaurant
>accidentally accept waiter's offer of bottled, expensive water
>girl tells me that was a mistake, get embarrassed
>hand is literally shaking a I pour the water into the glasses
>hand continues to shake uncontrollably for the rest of the dinner
>also become unable to bend my neck (?)
>to drink, I have to take minute sips contort my neck slightly
>girl is just politely making conversation that I'm barely following
>finish half my meal (a lasagna), get the cheque, leave
>extremely uncomfortable atmosphere, barely make eye contact
>say goodbye, no hug or anything
>avoid her from then on
>slowly transition from that, to just being on hi terms, to just being on nodding terms, to ignoring each other
didn't have another date, let alone get anywhere with any woman, for another 8 years. I also believe now that, considering how I presented myself back then (ill-fitting clothes, uncut hair, traces of acne, lame glasses, all from a "I don't care how I look" attitude), that the girl only accepted to go out to a meal with me on the assumption that I couldn't possibly be asking her on an actual date, and that she thought I was just trying to be friends or something. Most likely, though, is that she just pitied me.

6/10 pasta
saw it in the /ck/ thread yesterday

Did you post in the wrong thread?

Attached: cringe.jpg (645x773, 57K)

I'd say it was an average movie with some kino moments sprinkled throughout so overall it was good but not great.

Saw it with my mom's boyfriend
It was everything I wanted from a Detective Pikachu movie

wtf Hitler is that you?

More like Detective Cuckachu

SHHHHHHH be quiet you want a second holocaust or not? you'll ruin everything

Dare I say, based and red pilled.

>muh kids like it
>muh mom's boyfriend
>muh wife's daughter
>muh cuck
jfc you shills have to diversify a bit to make it more subtle. Doesn't work if you all go for the same meme.

Uh in English doc?

Yes I went to see it in english, I hate watching movies dubbed into other languages.

Based

>more logical.
I think it all made pretty good sense. The guy built the whole fucking city, why not turn everyone into pokemon?
Have you ever met a cripple? Most have a huge chip on the shoulder perfect in character.
I disagree not over the top at all and the mechanics of it were fine too, nothing really broke the rules as far as I care of the poker universe I knew as a kid in red/blue/first run anime.

Realistic Pikachu is cute.

But what was the point of wanting to turn people into pokemon? I felt it was never really explained. Is it like he hates people but likes Pokemans? Dunno I think they could have at least worked a bit more on his motivation other than
>he's a cripple so he angery

That was it, he wanted people and pokemon to be closer, unioned, 'evolved' and use their power and shit. I dont know what his motivation was he just wanted to do it. He built the whole city around it so presumably he was focussed. You never just want to do something passionately but dont know why logically?
>cripple so angry
But this is literally true, not what the film was though he wasn't angry it wasntva punishment it was an evolution. he wanted a utopia city

>visuals
okay
>story
would need a few beers with my kids/10
>writing
would need a few shots of rum with my kids/10

meh, w/e
other than that it was pretty good. Some nice twists, gotta give it that.

can someone just spoil it for me i have no money and can't see it

Am I the only one that thought the pacing was off?

The first act seemed nice and long to establish everything, then the second act passed so quickly, yet the scene where pikachu is injured and has to be healed takes fucking forever, felt like 15 minutes long. The final act also felt a little rushed, like the villain didn't really think it through, it felt way too simple

it is a kids movie after all

No you are insane
If you want to pick holes how did he know when to schedule the parade for after the escape?

it was fun, needed more pokemon though

Pikachu's design grew on me but the cheeks still look off

So was the twist with the dad really obvious for everyone else?

true pokekino

Attached: 1463322835675.jpg (1884x1060, 344K)

dunno, Yea Forums had already spoiled it for me :(

Anyone else think the cinematography was surprisingly good?
>nice use of anamorphic optics
>at times shallow depth of field, at other times deep focus, according to the needs of every moment
>not at all overdone color grading, images generally nice and colorful, not monochrome like many other flicks
>dat nice 35mm look

When they were falling off the turtle and there was a snap zoom I thought yeah ok cool, but dont do it again and it didn't.

zoom use isn't cinematography it's directing you absolute pleb

I watched the game's cut scenes and ruined it for myself.
I still think the game had a stronger ending.

what was the gaem ending?

Yeah i knew it the first moment the hid his face.

Movie was pretty shit, date fell asleep and I never knew what was going on. Ryan Reynolds was his dad at the end? Weird

This is definitely a thing. The inevitbale sequel better have more battles

youtu.be/Vh3Lt1BQaQw?t=10607
Start from 2:56:47

Why make a sequel? Just make a different Pokémon movie.

also, shock, Tim isn't black in the game.

they are making a Mewtwo spin off

everybody except Ryan was ass, he carried the movie

Yeah I wasn't too thrilled about the obligatory diversity casting. But at least he's a good actor and reasonably charismatic. A far cry from John Boogabooga.

The nog wasn't bad as the straight man for Ryan to act against. But obv Ryan carried the movie.
His character also turned some boring kids pokemon flick into very entertaining film that happens to be about pokemon. They really made it into something more than just the expected fan service.

it looks a little strange close up, but given they were going for realistic anything smooth would have been even weirder. i thought it looked pretty good on shots that weren't close-ups though.

just give me a tl;dr, all the spying and popularity manipulating software in youtube makes long vids like that not work for me
god I hate jewtube so fucking much

I'm gonna laugh my ass off if the remake of Mewtwo strikes back reaches no 1 in Japan.

This movie reached no 3 this week.

the only thing im not ok with this movie is the interracial shit. They trying to shove this shit everywhere now including pokemon fuck the jews.

I don't get how the nips approved of that shite. From all the conditions to impose in exchange for putting up cash, THAT'S what WB went with? And people still say there isn't an agenda jfc.

[spoilers]They stop the gas from being dispersed in the parade, But Tim still doesn't find his father. It's left ambiguous, but pretty much confirms that Pikachu is the father. Because Mewtwo tells Tim his father is still alive, but he doesn't tell him where. it's implied throughout the game that Pikachu is the father and is pretty much confirmed in the scene starting from 2:56:47. Where Mewtwo and Detective Pikachu are talking alone and Mewtwo brings up "the old you" and "the real you"
I think they wanted to make detective pikachu a standalone movie in case it did poorly and that's why they didn't keep the ending of the game that was a bit more somber than the happy, stakeless ending we got in the movie. [/spoilers]

intredasting thanks for qrd even tho you fucked up the quotes kek

They insisted on using film. The guy from gladiator was in charge of photography. In general everyone involved threated the movie as a real film, the director said they went imaging a movie set in the pokemon universe instead of just doing a "pokemon movie" ans relying on the ip. It really shows

Warner didnt make the movie, they only do distribution in some markets, in mu country the distribution was handled by toho and legendary, no wb logo. Legendary is a Chinese company, the japs trusted the chinese more than the americans.

This movie is genuinely within the same canon as Detective Pikachu. The events of it are mentioned in the new movie.

>They insisted on using film.
who did? The cinematographer? In any case it was neat. Always nice to get some comfy film images with that slight grain.

>Warner didnt make the movie, they only do distribution in some markets, in mu country the distribution was handled by toho and legendary, no wb logo. Legendary is a Chinese company, the japs trusted the chinese more than the americans.
Fair enough, but sometimes the distributor puts up some money and might get a say. So who went for the nignog as MC? Surely it wasn't the chinks or the japs, right?

Everyone can fuck off.
Literally the best video game movie ever adapted/made. I know thats not saying a lot, but still true none the less.
As for as a stand alone movie. Solid 8/10.

Could have had more action and more pokemon, especially from the original 150. I mean there was a lot of pokemon on screen, but you couldn't take in all of them in the 2 second passing they were on screen. Also A LOT of Pokemon were reused or in crowds over and over. Its more realistic that certain pokemon would be more common and used in society like Growlithe and Charmander than say Pincer or Shellder. But its still disappointing to not see the pokemon you wanted to see.
For me, I wanted to see: Vulpix, Ninetails, Zubat, Golbat, Dratini, Dragonaire, and Dragonite, but they weren't in it. Or if they were they weren't noticable.

Also the story could have been a bit better.
I'm going to put your brains in Pokemon's bodies was a dumb end game
And not to be mean but the mulatto guy and girl were shit actors, and badly written.
Especially the girl, she was straight cringey.
>I CAN SMELL A STORY!
Fuck off.

But the CGI was good, other top actors in it were good. And they didn't butcher or fuck up shit from the game, not anymore that the Marvel MCU does to its comic source material.

In fact thats a good way to describe the movie. Its basically the MCU of video game movies.

>never knew what was going on
whether you liked or disliked it i genuinely have no idea how you and so many other people had trouble following the events/plot. it was about as simple as it could have been.

They were said to be working on a sequel before the movie even came out. So I'm assuming this was always the plan.

brotip: all these people talking about their date/wife/son/daughter/etc are just shills.

i'm not just atlking about here. a lot of critics said they were scratching their heads and had trouble figuring out what was going on

are they literally brain dead

maybe the critics are paid off by disney kek
srsly tho, the movie is as normie-friendly as it gets ffs
some of the pokemon details may go over your head, but they're mostly irrelevant to the basic storyline

What made me mad about the ending was how everything up until the end was actually competently put together and the mystery was engaging and the twists were satisfying. But then they suddenly just add "Mewtwo can transfer a human soul into a pokemon" out of fucking nowhere right at the end. Oh, and apparently he can also reconstruct a living human body from the DNA of the human's son and then transplant his soul?! But he couldn't heal the dying man for some reason, which is never explained. Just what the fuck? It ruined everything at the eleventh hour.

the transferring human soul into pokemon really wasn't out of the blue, otherwise where did a talking pikachu that doesn't even know how to use its electric attacks come from?

>the vials have "R" on them
>no Team Rocket

Attached: Pepe ree blast.png (1000x884, 394K)

There's a number of ways they could explain it. Honestly, I thought the explanation was all that R that Tim breathed in right at the beginning having a unique effect on him for plot convenient reasons.

fair enough, but why couldn't he understand the other pokemon tho? There clearly was something special about pikachu.

i still dont believe you shill, that's easily photoshoped.

Early on Pikachu says something about how pokemon can understand humans' feelings and "your heart has to be open to the experience" or something to that effect, right? Well, let's say Tim is emotionally vulnerable due to his dad's death, the R acts as some kind of catalyst/enhancer somehow, and he can understand Pikachu because it belonged to his father and he was longing for a connection to his dad in the wake of his loss, just like Pikachu missed his owner and was looking for a connection there. So now you have a two-way emotional street through which Pikachu and Tim can communicate, fueled by grief and catalyzed by weird magic chemicals.

Attached: keep_me_posted.png (500x593, 169K)

I'm not saying it's not a plausible thing to think, I'm just saying that there's going to be some sort of weird twist to the whole situation, so it might be the one in the movie or the one you're saying.

>The bad guy's plan
Based SEELE is still in charge I see

Attached: latest[1].jpg (800x455, 150K)

It makes perfect sense for it to be the way it was based on what actually happened in the movie. I just think all the shit that went down at the end of the movie was lazy and bad. But if they changed the ending, they'd have to change the reasons for why Tim and Pikachu can talk, so I'm just suggesting that the movie itself sets up a plausible way you could make that happen without the real reason happening.

The part with the bad guy was kinda bad because I think it made little sense as endgame, and wasn't properly explained. The part about mewtwo transferring peoples souls into pokemon bodies was ok.

Fair enough. Maybe I'd have had less of a problem with it if it was just a one-off thing he did with Pikachu and not something he could do en masse to hundreds of people at a time. That's really what made me think it was absurd.

I generally didn't like the bad guys endgame, so I'm with you on that. Ironically, what made it bad, seeming sort of detached from the rest of the plot, also made it have little effect on the rest of the movie, so it was still very enjoyable.

Yeah, if he was just trying to transfer himself and use Mewtwo power to become a god or something it would have made more sense but the way it was seemed random and not clear why other than "crazy".

>especially from the original 150
stopped reading there, genwunner opinions go straight to the trash

Yeah something like that I thing would have seemed more logical. Or just go back to the roots of the first movie
>hurr I want to have the biggest, baddest pokemon ever
and add to that
>and the whole thing about living peacefully with pokemon was just a ruse harharhar fuck all y'all

>Some people saw this movie alone

My wife doesn't like sitting in a theater and my kids are all like 20+

It was actually much better than I expected.
I liked it.

>No fucking links or torrents still
This movie is so shit no one wants to risk getting caught recording this huh

is it the same mewtwo?

>implying
youtube.com/watch?v=tAA_yWX8ycQ

hahaha ya everyone already knows this epic meme

The steroid culled from Mewtwo being named R had nothing to do with Team Rocket nor did that lab. Them capturing Mewtwo and naming it R was just a coincidence.

it was more childish than i thought, i guess deadpool pikachu made it misleading. the only appeal it has is fancy realistic pokemon in the real world, and pikachu is cute and funny sometimes. the twist at the end was kind of clever i guess, if you're smart such as myself you would have guessed it was coming once you knew the villain's plan. 6.5/10

They don't flatout say it but it's obvious because Mewtwo mentions he was made 20 years ago, and the first movie came out 20 years ago. Nothing shown contradicted it.

They don't flatout say it but it's obvious because Mewtwo mentions he was made 20 years ago, and the first movie came out 20 years ago. There's a flashback of how he escapes from the lab just like in the first movie.

>when the credits sequence is better than the actual film

Attached: 1408915619020.gif (250x250, 1.11M)

i think he would be able to understand the pikachu without the R.

>same universe
So now there’s the Team Rocket MewTwo and this movie’s MewTwo?

it's the same mewtwo retard

they mention that he was captured after arriving from a different region 20 years ago(the year mewtwo strikes back came out not so coincidentally as this was obviously deliberate)

but since you want to bring up the possibility of two mewtwos: There are two mewtwos in the anime

but isnt he supposed to have become a good guy at the end of the movie wanting to learn about the world. Did he get mindcontroled?

”FINISH HIM, DITTO.”

5/10 at best, why does ryan go full sarcasm? then go full my wife's son at the end of the film

Kanto was referenced in the movie so Ryme City is in the Pokémon world, yes.

Also is Ryme City in Galar? It's definitely British.

he is a good guy in detective pikachu, I'll say that much.

I don't read Turkish

If you cant glance at that and glean what it means, you're retarded.
German is easy as hell

Okay I was really hoping to enjoy this one but I couldn't. I'm more disappointed than anything.

The world is actually fantastic and I wish we saw more of it. I like the designs of the Pokemon and they look just like how I wanted most of them to look. So its sad that with all those elements they couldn't come up with a better story.

I get that its for kids and I wasn't expecting anything too deep, but compared to how the Japanese movies managed to tell good pokemon stories its sad to see so much potential squandered on this.

Also how do you build an entire city like the one in the movie in just 10 years?

Yes the parade at the end was in celebration of its 10 year anniversary. I get that the man who built it is still around but you'd expect it to be much older, especially with all the dingy and older buildings around, did they design them to look old from the beginning?

Also its implied that main character was a pokemon trainer when he was a kid but decided to leave it behind, yet they never explained what happened. I was expecting or assuming he would have encountered some character from one of the games and been defeated so badly that it made him quit, or something else, but they never got into it.

I knew instantly when the Dad’s face was hidden and was shown to be white.

He was never a trainer as a kid, he just never was able to become one because he lost his mom and blamed everything on his dad.

I'm really glad that it wasn't a sticking point anywhere because he is a decent actor and was convincing when he needed to be.

Yeah they really didn't need it. At least they didn't kiss or hug

>its a Ryan reynolds ruined another movie episode

Attached: pp.jpg (483x468, 18K)

>no Cyndaquils show up till the end

Attached: [Disgusted Sigh].jpg (500x359, 30K)

Had to support my boy PikaCHAD

Brotodile>Cyndaquil>Chikorita

I vaguely remember they're giving out rare collectors' cards at the entrance

My wife's son really liked this movie.

i wish it was a bit longer just to see more of the universe and more pokemon. a lot of them were just in the background. also the villain was really undeveloped. other than that i enjoyed it. also the intern girl made my dick DIAMONDS

I hope this does really well, it’d be a damn shame if regurgitated crap like Aladdin outperformed this. Good vidya adaptations are a breath of fresh air in the age of capeshit and disney remakes

The Reporters actress is over 18 right?

Is this the first video game movie that isn't shit?

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. It doesn't try to be anything other than what it is. It's simple, enjoyable, and they keep laser focused on this.

I also found myself seeing A LOT of things that reminded me of Zootopia. Except for that god damn rabbit...

inshallah fellow eurofren

You shill kikes couldn't make it any less obvious. Fucking mongoloids.

If you want to see a good family movie then watch Avengers: Endgame. If you want yo see a soulless corporate mess created solely to make money, watch defective pikachu.

Mewtwo hated humanity so he probably never learned how to heal them directly for that reason.

It's kid's movie, grow the fuck up

Was the twist that Pikachu is the dad?
