A good comedy mixed with serious biznizz needs to strike a delicate balance between levity and humor. The Orville is close to achieving it. It is not perfect by any means. But Seth has years of experience with Family Guy etc under his belt to know when something does not work. The Orville will only get better from here on in I bet. Especially if given a bigger budget. But let's face it. They could make everything out of cardboard and it would STILL be better than STD.

i was referring to "Sanctuary", which as far as im concerned has been the only truly terrible episode in the entire show thus far. it was written by Joe Monosky, who wrote a bunch of eps for TNG, DS9 and voyager.
and it's not even that it was yet another moclan story or the grrrl power themes. the escalation of the action just made no fucking sense. also i know bortus has been through a lot that has changed him wrt the rigid moclan culture, but in Sanctuary he's written as a full fledged SJW, willing to kill members of his own species indiscriminately.

The episode "Deflectors" was worse. The new security officer turned out to be a preachy mouth piece. Very poor execution of what could have been an interesting concept.
