If we're talking X-Rays, then it should be noted that commercial and military pilots are getting dosed every time they fly at levels well above background, and this has of course been occurring for decades. As far as I am aware, no longitudinal study exists demonstrating a higher incident rate of cancer among pilots vs. the general population. They aren't wearing dosimeters so we wouldn't be able to gauge thresholds but you would still expect a general increase.

Again you could argue that it can't be proven that those symptoms are linked to their radiation exposure, but there's still a pattern.

I think a lot of people misunderstood the iodine pills scene.
It wasn't meant to show that the doctor didn't know what iodine was for. It was meant to show that he had too much faith in the state, and the state didn't stock the hospital with iodine because the state says the reactor is completely safe.

Maybe that's inaccurate and the hospital did have iodine pills irl, but that was the intention of the scene at least.
