Horror is a dead genre, and torture porn is what killed it. Change my mind.

The last good horror film was ‘Slither’.

It's clearly self-awareness and post-irony that killed it

"Scary" is an extremely subjective term.

Some people are scared of spiders, some people are scared of black people. So watch whatever scares you, might even be the 12 o clock news

Anything from Gaspard Noé or Lars Von Trier

Exactly, also it heavily depends on your mood/state of mind and setting. If you mentally set yourself up to scoff and laugh it, obviously it won't scare you. Or if you're watching it on a shitty TV with bad audio

scary as in limit-experience

The only one remotely scary in the past 15 years was Lake Mungo and then only because it had an eerie circumstance that tapped into a deeper existential dread.
Prior to that, the only scary stuff were Japanese horror movies like Ringu and Kairo (western remakes were shit because they lost the subtlety and eerie otherworldliness and mysticism found only in Asian cinema from a western perspective).

Noroi: The Curse

i'd say slashers killed it

>something cringe like hereditary?
Ya got pleb-filtered.

The first REC takes advantage of the first person view and an insane third act to get you tensed up.

The rest is shit.

ohnonono

Autopsy of Jane doe
The Blair witch project

The first Paranormal Activity is genuinely scary

3rd one was unironically scary too

Green Room is pretty scare even if you're not black

Ill second Kairo
