The lead actor is dull as dishwater. There's a few characters I liked, but generally the concepts are way more interesting than the people and that really drags it down.

i read the first three books, they were shit. The "proto-molecule" is used a deus -ex- machina plot device to do whatever the author feels like writing about, without any internal consistency or logic. Neeed to turn people into zombies, need a reactionless miracle space drive, need unstoppable monsters, need to build a starship out of nothing? Hey lets just say the proto molecule did it! But of course if couldnt hit the right planet when it ffirst arrived in our system, oh no that would have spoiled the story. Ridiculous.

I haven't read the books at all, but my interpretation of the protomolecule/Holdens vision was that the protomolecule was a gift from some precursor civilisation on how to save the universe or something. Am I far off?

Not even close.

It's remnants of a long extinct alien empire that got wiped out by some "things" that were assumingly unhappy with the nature of their technology. Later in the books a human faction decides to piss them off and brings unholy fuck upon themselves and everyone else.

That's what put me off at first, until I realised that this is more a 'big picture' show rather than a character-centric show. The characters are just puppets to keep the story plodding along.

Anyone else think the visual quality of the show went down a notch after season 1? S1 had betted CGI, better lighting, better set design and better casting. I've seen the same thing happen with shows, old and new. Really annoying. Still fucking great though, I just hate the slight inconsistency.

I've read them and know they're kind of mediocre, but they work well as TV show material. It's one of those cases where there was a niche to fill and two guys with the drive to write filled it decently enough, even though it's nothing exceptional. You just gotta accept it for what it is and hope it inspires another writer to do it a bit more elegantly.
The best thing about it is that it created a really good sci-fi show. It's really rare to see sci-fi this consistently enjoyable on TV.

A lot of people know it's not perfect though. Hell, nothing ever is. It's just good enough and has no competitors right now. If you want something more refined, you'll never get it from an action oriented scifi book series aimed at 20-something-year-old space nerds.

I read them on my phone back when I was a long haul truck driver. Apparently there's more than three now. The best part is world building and the worst part was the characters. If George Martin wrote a political space opera set in the Expanse it would be awesome.
There's an action sequence towards the end of the third book where I'm like this is the culmination of the trilogy? A medium sized gun fight between 2 factions where the reader is told ahead of time that the outcome won't change anything either way.
It would probably have been better if Bioware had adapted their shitty Andromeda game's assets to be an Expanse action rpg with the book as background plot

Powersuits sound great as armor but humans cannot react to the weapons from them meaning its better to have an AI controlled powersuit than a human one. Look at the Ultrameme fight to see what I get it dodges all of their shit then speedblitzes them.
