Nonsense. People always have a reason for why they enjoy the sort of stuff they enjoy, it's not arbitrary. Debating those reasons is important because we have a vested interest in finding out what makes a film or any form of media enjoyable so we can create even more enjoyable stuff. We will never get to a perfect formula so there is flexibility and room for subjectivity but that doesn't mean you just throw objectivity out of the way. Instead you make a case for your viewpoints and listen to other viewpoints and try to find points of agreement or disagreement, which is essentially debating.

Because he's a soulless potato and escapism is all he has.
