However, how could he have learnt about Pym particles without even knowing about the existence of Pym particles in the first place? I think you'd want to make people infertile in accordance with a polynomial function such that as polynomic positive growth occcured in a population over time a corresponding increase in inferility occurred.

Thanos knew that killing half the population of the universe wasn't going to permanently save the universe from the depletion of its resources, it was only meant to save the universe for several future generations (likely for the rest of Thanos's life).

This. Imagine if Thanos had an infinite supply of Pym particles. He could go into the past, bring as many resources into the present as he wants and then increase the size of those resources so they last longer. He could potentially have an infinite supply of resources. His supply of resources could potentially last forever!

why did he kill them in the way he did? why have them turn into dust and float away? why not just disappear them instantly and wipe everyone's memories, saving them the trauma of seeing their loved ones disentegrate? why not just increase the amount of food/resources so the universe can sustain a bigger population? why not make it so living creatures no longer need to eat to survive? with that kind of power, there are so many other obvious solutions to poverty/overcrowding.

it seriously pulls the rug out from under the movie. infinity war is one of those "entertaining while you're watching" movies, where when you have a moment to think after the movie's over, you realize it made no sense, killing any suspension of disbelief for future rewatches.

infinity war/endgame are a great excuse to drink soda and eat popcorn with your friends. nothing more. these are not the great works of our generation. no one is going to be seriously discussing them in 10 years. they are only landmark in their scope as a business decision.

1) people who were previous incapable of conceiving children, now can and are thus exempt from this

how would you define infertility though? a lot people are effectively infertile but still theoretically capable of having kids.
