I was enjoying this at first, but I've really struggled to keep going; I'm currently on the Fires of Heaven and I've kind of lost motivation to continue

Wheel of Time is such a snooze fest. Why did he make his books so long? Most of the books are made up of redundant useless over descriptive nonsense, and some of the character arcs of so winding that it makes you just want to put the book down and not pick it up again. I tried, I really did try but I got about halfway through the 4th book (shadow rising?) and put it down and never picked it back up. The buildup of any kind of threat was sidelined for boring subplots and braid tugging and women 'hmph!'ing and it felt a lot like the scene from Monty Python's Holy Grail where Lancelot runs towards the castle.

I think the theme is more "men and women separately can't do much, they need each other to make up for their faults". This is repeated over and over almost verbatim and all the big events for the Light are done with saidin and saidar, not to mention a woman (Egwene) having by far the biggest character shift into a revolutionary force for positive change for the entire world. She basically set up things so that the Aes Sedai would not only be more down-to-Earth so they would interact with the common people better, but also more well rounded from recruiting from the Sea Folk and Aiel. And bolstered their ranks in doing so. Nynaeve basically single-handedly rediscovered the ability to heal mental illness which will have a massive impact. Elayne took control of Andor with only a small amount of backup. I could go on but you get the point.

Oh but having said that yeah they'll probably change a lot of shit to make women sound less cunty and men fuck up more to match the modern aesthetic. Also a lot more quips and flavorful WoT language replaced with contemporary slang like GoT (craven -> coward etc).

It's been a good while since I read the books, but one had a ton of chapters with Rand's wife who's the queen. They were absolutely excruciating. I was just skipping multiple pages at a time and losing absolutely none of my ability to follow the story. I don't know if you're into fantasy or not but the first three books at least are very satisfying and self contained. From there everything starts branching out and some of it can be a slog but it's my favorite series of all time and I'd always recommend the first books.

ASOIAF is a completely different beast than WOT. WOT is much more of a traditional fantasy series where the main characters being royalty is secondary to the epic quests they undergo and the world is much more based around fantasy organizations and hierarchy than ASOIAF, which tries to go for the realistic fantasy approach. I would say that ASOIAF has better world building, but the problem with that series is that it builds up the history a little too much at certain points and neglects to add exciting events for the POV characters. This series has problems for the first two books with pacing, but most of the books after that have a dynamic rhythm to them that integrate the present and past world building to a better level than ASOIAF.
I prefer WOT due to the fact that the series is exciting to read and has good worldbuilding. The biggest problem with WOT is that the writer has lots of difficulties writing girl character's POVs.

This is the reason I never went past the first two books. I started to notice a pattern where the beginning of the book was intriguing, the middle was a long trek of repetitive scenes and then the ending was exciting. The middle part really killed off the enthusiasm to continue reading the series though.

The first mistborn was a good book, it just went nowhere after that.
