I haven't seen the series but I've seen this scene like 3 or 4 times. Is the context:

Pussy gets plenty puss from being rich and relatively charismatic. He was working for the feds and his period of being missing caused great suspicion. Despite how detailed the story was Tony has doubt over it happening because he can no longer trust Pussy at all, and can see through it for what it almost certainly was, an elaborate lie. The line rubs away their falsely renewed sense of friendship and cameradery. Pussy was trying to charm them into sparing him, Tony saw through it, he failed and fucking died.

This is probably the line that stuck with me the most throughout the whole show.

He's telling this bullshit story to make them laugh, like they used to. Probably told the story a million times.

But then it's suddenly tragic because he's been lying about everything else too.
