That's not what I'm saying at all you total brainlet. The NK's death was poorly written, it had nothing to do with my opinion of the character. They hyped up a villain for 8 years only for him to die in 2 seconds without putting up a fight. And character deaths is part of what set GoT apart from everything else, it wasn't afraid to fuck with the audience and kill people like Ned or Robb. The show has lost its ruthlessness. You can't just make a show great then take away what made it that way. I didn't knock on the show for killing people I liked as long as it was in a well-written way.

Instead she makes it look like she was kidnapped, prompting her family to confront the mad king about his son stealing their kin. If he did it with only love for Lyanna in mind, then he was more destructive and caused more death and damage to the realms of men, than the white walkers managed to do. Actually, the Night king was a show original villain, who they created to give the white walker threat a face. He only showed up mid-season 4 and became a villain from season 5-onwards. They didn't know what to do with a canon foreigner villain, since every other villain in the show has their roots in GRRM's text (Joffrey, Ramsay, Tywin, Cersei, Euron and etc.). They may be show original now, but we liked them because of what the show did with them while it was following GRRM's text (except Euron, somehow they ignored the text and made this great guy into the second worst villain.).

If the crown won, the Martells would have started a rebellion soon after. I mean Rhaegar basically threw Elia and her kids out to fuck another woman (though no annulment or remarriage has been confirmed in the books, and I don't think some random septon could do such a high profile annulment). So even if they won, they would not have gotten away with it.

Also, GRRM is a hardcore atheist, so there is no way the resolution to the story will be a religious prophecy coming true, and a chosen savior saving the earth. Maybe that's his point with Rhaegar? That he is a kind and caring madman, who was blinded by love and empty prophecies, and made a very bad mistake thanks to that. In which case he is still a terrible guy, but at least it is intentional.
