because in his arrogance he thought that he was invincible and that after his plan had been completed there would be no chance to oppose him. He also respected the Avengers to some extent, including Stark, which is why he had that monologue in the first movie. It's actually a little weird for his character to do a kind of 180 in Endgame about respecting his opponents, which can either be chalked up to a narcissistic psychopath becoming frustrated at the prospect of legitimate failure, or the writers deciding to make him a complete dickass after so many viewers sympathized with him and his actions in IW.

His motivation is short sighted and retarded and Endgame proves that he is not really committed to his vision after all.
