Yeah I haven't went through all of his catalogue but Malcolm X is one of the better biopics out there and while I appreciate what he tried to do with Do the Right Thing, is right, the overall message flops hard.

Do the Right Thing had a fine message. It's just that it's not the message Spike Lee (retroactively?) intended.
Do the right thing is literally his only good movie.
The few I've seen are mostly great. Then he does stupid stuff like the end of Blackkklansman that tries to beat you over the head with a silly message instead of working some point into the film itself and letting it stand. It's almost like he doesn't actually understand the medium, yet knows how to frame a shot. Kind of annoying.

He's one of the few loudmouths who possesses genuine filmmaking skills beyond the ability to read lines. Whether his films are kino or not is a matter of opinion, but they're generally well-directed.
