Why is Godzilla so fucking cool?
Like I'm insanely fucking hyped for King of the Monsters
1. Gojira (1954)
2/3. GMK & Tokyo SOS
4. Shin Godzilla
5. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Good mix of monster action, military scenes, decent human story, and some of that classic fantasy/magic/cosmic shit sprinkled in.
My only criteria is that they have cool shit
inpo:
-shin godzilla
-vs Mechagodzilla
-Final Wars
-Godzilla, Mothra, & King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack |
-vs Destoroyah
I like most Godzilla movies but the original is so good it doesnt even feel right comparing it to the others
Godzilla 1998 is the only good one.
The new ones are not that bad but damn, are these made for autistic kids?
if you like the old ones you're a cringey boomer
if you like the new ones you're a numale soiboi
1998 is the only non-gay answer
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla - I love when he ripped angurus mouth open
Son of Godzilla - cute kino
Godzilla vs Destroyah - Epic and memorable ending
Ghidorah the three headed monster - Saw this first
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah - Best action
Shin Godzilla
Godzilla (1954)
GMK
Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah
Invasion of Astro-Monster
Well crafted, meaningful stories.
Gojira - Every other movie hinges off of this one. It set the bar high.
vs the Astro Monster - I just like how campy this one gets. Godzilla, Rodan and Ghidorah fighting on Planet X? Too good.
vs Destroyah - The stakes in that movie set up a good tension throughout as well as being a fantastic send off to that iteration of Godzilla.
Final Wars - I didn't know I wanted a Mike Haggar movie starring Don Frye as Haggar before.
Shin Gozilla - The laser scene. 'nough said.
Godzilla 1954
Shin Godzilla
Godzilla 1985
Godzilla vs the Smoke Monster
Godzilla Raids Again
No alien bullshit or time travel. Smoke Monsters is on my list because it's so bizarre.
Literally anything with King Ghidorah
why is he so based
godzilla vs megalon - first movie i seen as a kid, present from a dead family member
Godzilla x mechagodzilla - favourite movie
shin godzilla- lots of happy personal memories of this one
godzilla 2014- seen it on my birthday, first time in VIP
godzilla 1954- still remember holding the oxygen destroyer prop IRL
Based.
Why are kaiju tourists such trashy fucking people? Come back when you watch ultraman and enjoy it.
1. GMK - best version of Godzilla and great score
2. Final Wars - cheesy but fun action all throughout the film
3. Godzilla vs Destoroyah - best Godzilla enemy
4. Godzilla 2000 - idk I just love this movie. Nostalgia ig
5. 2014 - good movie, people always shit on this film but it single handedly revived Godzilla and many fans returned because of it
The best part of final wars is Don frye talking English the entire movie to all the Japanese people responding in Japanese
King Kong vs. Godzilla-classic traditional monster mayhem.
Godzilla vs. Biolatte-Compelling story, great scene when Godzilla returns.
Gojira-Classic monster movie, has a mysterious atmosphere.
GMK-An updated, modern(for its time) take on a monster brawl. Campy.
Godzilla vs. Mothra-a well made monster movie for it's time. A story that keeps you interested.
Honorable mentions-Godzilla vs. MechaG, Godzilla and Mothra Battle for Earth, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla 2014.
>Gojira
The original G
>Godzilla: Final Wars
Pure fun
>Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster
Godzilla vs. Pollution. Quirky but nuanced. I want to see more "Godzilla vs 'Concept'" films
>Shin Godzilla
Brings Godzilla into the modern age while honoring the original
>Son of Godzilla
My childhood favorite
In no particular order:
Gojira
Shin Gojira
Godzilla vs Biolante
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla
King Kong vs Godzilla
I love all flavors of Godzilla; I like his serious and dark takes, I love the light hearted cheese, and everything in between. KotM is my movie of the year, I don't really care about box office beyond hoping it does well enough
Based
1. Gojira
2. Shin Godzilla
3. GMK
4. Terror of Mechagodzilla
5. Mothra vs. Godzilla
I like my serious messages with my giant monsters. Also, Heisei era a shit.
>Godzilla vs Pollution
>I want to see more "Godzilla vs 'Concept'" films
Godzilla vs The Trade Deficit
godzilla vs mechagodzilla(the 70s one)
godzilla vs mechagodzilla ii(the 90s one)
godzilla vs gigan
godzilla vs destroyah
i can't really name 5 right now. i would have to rewatch the other ones
youtube.com
shit taste
the first gojira film is fucking boring desu. all godzilla does is destroy the city. how boring!
same goes for shin godzilla. shin godzilla was awful
Godzilla and the Panama Papers
godzilla vs gigan is the most underrated godzilla film
GMK: for its blend of camp, and some of the best incorporated man-in-suit effects for the post-‘85 films
Vs King Ghidorah(‘91) for being a time travel sci-fi film that is just a fun 90’s action romp
Shin Godzilla: because Aaron Sorkin’s Godzilla is everything I didn’t know I wanted, also the best NGE live action film we will ever get
70’s Vs Mechagodzilla for that fucking funk/swing soundtrack and fun villains
The original, for its historical weight
I’m ranking these on just being great films, no particular order:
Gojira (1954)
GMK
Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster
Mother vs Godzilla
Godzilla vs. Biollante
Thoughts about the latest anime trilogy?
Kaijumax is better.
Godzilla vs the internet
Really sucked a lot of ass. First one had potential but just blew it's load on a bunch of nonsense
You can tell how shit of an opinion a person has on godzilla by how fast "GMK" is on their list.
Worst movie hands down.
the 1990 american one is the best one.
HYAHHHHHHHHHHH
You wouldn't hit a woman, would you?
So Captain Gordon was a reference to Mike Haggar, right?
I wish I could enjoy Final Wars more, but the director they hired was far more interested in indulging his ripping off The Matrix shtick than making a Godzilla movie, as well as ripping off Independence Day, Return of the Jedi, and Dragonball Z. People complain about Godzilla 2014's lack of Godzilla, the entire of the monster action in FW was barely 20 minutes and Godzilla himself was like 8 minutes. Plus every fight scene except for the four-way and Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah was over in 10 seconds.
1985 disagrees.
1. Godzilla 1954
2. Mothra vs. Godzilla
3. Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II
Then I don't know maybe Ghidorah but I like majority of these movies I feel like watching them right now.
He just looks like that in real life.
Perhaps the worst Godzilla movies ever? Definitely bottom of the list I don't know what can compete with them there.
1954
Vs Biollante
Shin
Vs Destroyah
Destroy All Monsters
Come on, Toho, you're not doing anything with these three, let Legendary use them.
I dig all the Godzilla movies but I hate the human plotlines. Especially when they involve aliens.
I think about Varan and Titanosaurus from time to time. Classics even if underused but they will be back no one expected Dogora, Daghara and Orga back even if as cameos but Toho is not afraid to dig up some old fossils.
We haven't had a Godzilla thread in a while. In the meantime I finished this book. It's pretty good, great insight into his movies, why they were made at the time that they did (for example in early 60s following the controversy of Japanese-American treaty).
1. Godzilla vs.Biollante
This one should be more popular. Best/most original plot of the franchise.
2. Mothra vs. Godzilla
3. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2
4. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
5. Godzilla 1985
Plot would be the last thing I'd consider when talking about Godzilla vs. Biollante unless we're talking about the pitch alone not the execution (or maybe if we're getting into specifics different sublots and how they're harmonized in the movie). The effects are the stand out if someone would ever consider 90s Gamera to be the peak Japanese tokusatsu.
1. Tokyo SOS
2. 1954 Gojira
3. Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla
4. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
5. Shin Godzilla
Godzilla vs Biollante
Godzilla (1954)
Shin Godzilla
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
Godzilla vs Megaguirus
Not really in any particular order. But I chose these ones for having the coolest monsters and the most fun battles, as well as having human stuff that kept me interested while the monsters weren't on screen.
Space Fighters in The Battle in Outer Space (1959) were based on the X-15 plane. The first wings in space. Goddamn I love these movies.
>Tfw we'll never have another Godzilla movie that's just a dude in a suit stomping a miniature city
probably should have said that my only real criteria was just how much I enjoyed them and how memorable they were to me. I've seen every godzilla movie and those are the ones that stuck with me the most. if I had to pick a #6 it would definitely be Godzilla Raids Again
>imblying toho isnt gonna make one in under 4 years
They didn't in Shin Godzilla.
It hurts. Toku in general lost charm with the coming of cgi.
But they're doing in through their own "Godzilla VR experience" like Americans.
1. Final Wars
2. Shin Godzilla
3. King of the Monsters
4. V Mechagodzilla
5. King Ghidorah
5 part 2. Gigan
5 part 3. Smog Monster
Honorable mention to Destroyah
5.
youtube.com
Filmmaker who worked on effects in Shin Godzilla made this little tribute.
1.Return of Godzilla
2.vs. Destroyah
3.vs. Mothra (1993)
4.vs Hedorah
5.vs MechaGodzilla (1974)
>tfw they scrapped the suit/animatronic they made for Shin Godzilla in favor of CGI
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Destroy All Monsters?
It's rarely considered one of the greats. But it was the most ambitious project that Toho produced during the period of rapidly dying industry.
Why did the end credits theme of Godzilla vs Destroyah also played the King Kong theme even though he wasn't in the movie?
1. vs Biollante
2. vs Mechagodzilla
3. vs Hedora
4. vs Mothra
5. vs Monster Zero
Special mention for the horrible All Monsters Attack / Godzilla's Revenge because I watched it a fuckton as a kid.
When they all beat the shit out of Ghidorah is one of my favourite Godzilla scenes.
it is anno after all
It's also the Varan theme. And theme for King Kong vs. Godzilla became Ghidorah's theme. I don't mind Ifukube was always expanding on the older themes.
Can I be in a goddamned motherfucking movie already?!
What's wrong with the plot? I don't know of any other Godzilla movie that's as complex, story-wise, as GvB.
And yes the visual effects are top tier and in many cases haven't been matched by subsequent films in the series.
1984 is the comfiest of all Godzilla films.
This is a fact.
IMO the only reason I rate vs. Destroyah so highly is because of the title screen
youtube.com
And when they play this at the reveal of destroyah's final form
Publications are saying KOTM is tracking to open at $50m which is a huge dropoff from the last Godzilla movie.

I don't want to live in a world dominated by capeshit
>when you pass out on the walk home from the bar
How do you all feel about this?
One of the few earlier Godzilla films where there's a sense of scale and progression to the destruction.
Also the best non-Ifukube score.
Will we ever get a remake of this kino?
People were swindled by 2014 Godzilla, didn't care about Pacific Rim, and Shin Godzilla was way too wild and wasn't widely released, and Kong Skull Island wasn't that memorable. Public hype for Godzilla was completely fumbled up by these people.
Much as I love the movie, I never liked Godzilla's suit in this one. The head is too large, the shoulders are really weak, and the eyes had too much white in them. I'm glad that they went with the design in GvB and kept it throughout the rest of the Heisei series.
Anything connected with the spies also Biollante standing in the lake and Godzilla rampaging through the city being connected in not the best way storywise. It's like both could do better in separate stand alone movies.
there is something special about the movement of real humans, something I can only think to refer to as autistic.
And it's fucking great
Son of Godzilla
King Kong vs Godzilla
Monster Zero
Godzilla vs Gigan
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
Criteria includes adventure with fun characters, Godzilla as an arrogant ass/hero, human/Godzilla team up against big bad
>giant japanese lizard
this board's been dead for years
My only issue was that they never bothered to fix the eyes so from the front it looks terrible.
There's only one scene where it shows what could've been and it's the scene where they test the bird frequency machine and Godzilla slowly looks straight at the camera, but for other scenes they either try to hide it or don't just bother at all.
And then you have the big Cybot Animatronic that was too big for practical use, which looks almost nothing like the suit.
'84 Goji is still my favorite design/suit though
15-20 million too little Kong did better with tougher competition and much less hype.
The scenes with the animatronic and the full-sized foot were cut form the American edit of the film, weren't they?
these threads won't end after the movie comes and goes..........r-right?
Of course not. More Godzilla movies are still coming.
Heisei Goji is max comfy.
1. Gojira 54 - Based Serizawa cucking that thot with his oxygen destroyer
2. Destroyah - Awesome villain, coolest version of Godzilla, that ending scene...
3. Megalon - Jet Jaguar has the best song
4. vs Mechagodzilla - As a kid mechanicgodzilla was hardcore breaking jaws and shooting Godzilla up
5. GMK - Fun movie with beergutzilla and good ghidorah
ok guys i need some help, I'm totally deaf. The roars and screams of these monsters are supposed to be legendary. Can ya help a brother out and demonstrate them in text form for me?
No. The American Cut just shuffles some scenes around, for example the scene I just described, for some reason the US cut had Godzilla try attack the building they were testing the machine in. The only shots they deleted were the close ups of the giant full-scale Godzilla foot and basicaly any scene where it shows people running against a matte painting of the city burning up, why I have no idea.
The actually strange part is that they could've done like the US cut of the original Godzilla and use Alternate/deleted footage but they didn't (one of the trailers has a bunch of shots not in the movie). It's just a neutered version of the film with Raymond Burr bits slapped in.
Destroyah goes
DUUUUM-DUUUM-DUUM-DUUM-DUM (dmmmmmm)
BWABWABWABWA
(dmmmmmmdmmmm)
BWABWABWABWA
Godzilla: SKREEEEEOOOOOOONNNNK
Gigan: KEEEE-EEEEYYYAAARRRAAAAAK
Rodan: QUIIOOOOOAAAAAAOOOOOORRRRRRRG
King Ghidorah: BIBIBIBIBIBIBIBI
Mothra: QUAAAAIIIIAAAAAAAA
Moguera: MOGUERA! MOGUERA!
A lot of the editing and reshuffling was to make the Russian characters be evil and launch the nuclear missile. In the orginial version the Russian was trying to stop the missile from being launched.
I suggest we keep a Kaiju General alive forever, to share our love for these films, AND to knock GoT threads off the board. I am looking forward to Godzilla King of the Monsters, even though it isn't Toho. King Ghidorah looked awesome in the trailers.
Why would the russians send a warship that was authorized to target and launch nuclear missiles to Tokyo in the first place?
anybody got smug kaiju pics?
I dont get this. That 5min trailer would make it seem like it's on track for $100 million. Add to it that it was attached to the imax showing for Endgame and everyone is basically talking about how hyped they are for it. Where are they getting these low numbers?
I guess in good news is that the buzz for Godzilla in China is high and people who seen the film feel it will do $200-$300 million domestic over there.
The original Gojira voice was a bass viola, and then run through an analog echo chamber.
Remember that it was made during the Cold War and that's integral to the plot. America and Russia wanted to use Godzilla as their excuse to use their nuclear arsenals on something, ANYthing. In the original version the Japanese Prime Minister talks them down by asking them if they would use nukes on Godzilla if he was attacking one of their countries.
I fucking loved Godzilla in this movie. He didn't even purposefully destroy anything, he was just literally a clumsy fuck who kept breaking things by accident.
Godzilla screening tomorrow. Expect reactions for it tomorrow night. Should give a good indication on how it will do in the box office
Worldwide it will be a success largely thanks to Asia. Regarding USA I'm mostly interested in the trend logically it should do a little better than previous movies.
1. Gojira (1954) Science Fiction at its best
2. Godzilla (2014) Hot take, but it's my personal favorite, the best version of Godzilla since the original. I could gush about this movie endlessly.
3. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) Extremely wacky, weirdly propagandistic, but that fucking opening hook of decapitated Ghidorah is hype as fuck, and the movie stays that hype throughout. Plus its got the best fucking poster and has Mecha-King Ghidorah.
4. Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) Really great characters, interesting plot, and genuinely emotional.
5. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) Best non-Godzilla plot of the showa era
runner ups were Shin and Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster
*flap* *flap* DESPITE
One youtube channel already posted a video with an interview with someone who'd seen it but took it down because of the response. Apparently the guy's review was pretty positive.
>Mother vs. Godzilla
It's real.
1. Godzilla (1998)
2. Son of Godzilla (1967)
3. Godzilla's Revenge (1969)
4. The Return of Godzilla (1985)
5. Destroy All Monsters (1968)
You were never a god.
No
My top 5:
>Godzilla ‘84
>Against Mechagodzilla
>Godzilla ‘54
>Mothra vs Godzilla
>Terror of Mechagodzilla
I don't need this daily dose.
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
I hope the end of GvK has Godzilla giving Kong piggyback rides.
My dream is to enjoy kaiju kino with my frens on Yea Forums
Hopefully you're right.
Do people really enjoy all the non-Godzilla scenes in Shin? Outside of his laser breath attack and the finale of the movie, all the human shit just didn't work for me. I know what Anno's doing with it, but I'm struggling to give a shit.
Put yourself in the bin you fuckin scrub ! come back after you finish Dinosaur War Izenborg
King Kinodorah incoming.
Isn't that Attack of the Supermonsters?
Take me to your leader-rah
>Godzilla (2014) Hot take, but it's my personal favorite, the best version of Godzilla since the original. I could gush about this movie endlessly.
Loved 2014 too. I can't respect a Godzilla fan who doesn't like it.
hell yeah
Godzilla is getting discussed on /m/
but /m/ is so slow
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla
King Kong vs Godzilla
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2
Godzilla vs Destroyah
After this, there is Godzilla vs Kong, so hype will continue for at least another year.
>tfw my local IMAX theater has a giant cardboard ad in the lobby, several posters and ad on the site, but still does not sell tickets
Tickets when?
would you watch it?
they just went on sale yesterday
It's hard to name just 5 user, maybe ten?
Gojira (1954) the OG. Darkest and most dramatic of the series. Even the effects look menacing in some shots.
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs Destoroyah
The emotional highpoints of the Heisei era, great score, decent effects, alot of emotion, an amazing ending.
Godzilla 2000
An excellent by the numbers Godzilla movie. If I had to show one movie to anybody who hasn't seen a Godzilla movie, I'd show them this one. It's got a fight with the army, aliens, cheesy but awesome moments, Godzilla being morally neutral.
Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster
The original (or second) Godzilla's beginning of his path towards being a hero, introduces Ghidorah, team up with Brodan and Mothra. Enough said.
Monster Zero
First use of the staple of Ayylmaos controlling monsters, got Rodan and Ghidorah back again, battle on Planet X was unique.
GMK
One of the more unique of the Godzilla films, and for reasons I can't quite place my finger one. One of the more memorable human leads.
Mothra vs Godzilla (1964)
We get Mothra's crossover, we get Godzilla's last appearance in the Showa era as a villain, the Shobijin are cool, Mothra is cool, the gunfights are cool the fights with the army is cool.
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and Terror of Mechagodzilla
The pyrotechnics are insane, Mechagodzilla is a cool opponent, and the ending of Terror of Mechagodzilla is pretty sad even though nothing bad happened.
Good for you user. Your patience will soon be rewarded. There are
>only 22 days until Godzilla: King of the Monsters
of course
1. Godzilla 2014 because fuck you, that's why.
2. Godzilla vs. Mothra '64 because I don't think any other Godzilla movie quite captured the "corrupt businessmen trying to exploit Mother Nature for profit" vibe like this one did
3. Shin Godzilla, because it blew apart everything I hate about modern politics in a neon purple fire
4. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla '74 almost solely because it introduced the concept of Godzilla recharging his strength when near death in a lightning storm and that is a fucking metal concept I've carried with me through all movies since, here's hoping KotM can pay respect
5. Godzilla vs. Biollante because it was the first and only time a Godzilla movie had me hooked on the human storyline and actually made me forget the movie was supposed to be about Godzilla, and the monster felt like it had a personal connection to both stories
Now all of you listen to the rock/metal playlist I made to celebrate this new movie
open.spotify.com
There is a finite amount of hype in the culture at any given time, and right now Endgame and Game of Thrones have completely absorbed all of it. Combine with the fact that most people don't look fondly on 2014 and you shouldn't be surprised that KotM isn't tracking to do well.
>Godzilla 2000
This one is my favorite but I rarely see it mentioned. I've loved it since seeing renting it on VHS when I was 11.
Runner-up would be the original Showa era Mechagodzilla movies. They're so much fun and have better pacing than most other Godzilla movies.
Anyone else hope that we'll get remixes of Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah's themes along with Godzilla's?
But how would you even know what the characters we type to explain it would sound like?
Kino song
youtu.be
It was basically confirmed when Bear was announced as the composer that their themes were also gonna be used, some people say you can hear Ghidorah's theme in Old Rivals youtu.be
This is hard
> 1. Shin Godzilla
Fan of political thrillers/technothrillers so this was right up my alley. Also liked how the depiction of Godzilla was simulaniously the most “out there” depiction yet while returning the character to his roots as a metaphor for nuclear disaster, and the effects scenes were cool as fuck. Also enjoyed the message - Japan cannot and should not ever reclaim the old days of the Empire and must work with other nations to survive, but it is still a powerful nation and must be allowed to pursue independent policies
> 2. GMK
Some of the best suitmation effects of the series with strong human characters and a decent message decrying Japanese war crime denial.
> 3. Mothra vs. Godzilla
Comfy Showa fun, cool monster fights all around
> 4. Godzilla 2000
Lots of nostalgia for this one, good balance of Godzilla as a destroyer and as a savior.
> 5. Godzilla (1954)
The original will always get a lot of praise, and it’s well-deserved. While admittedly not my favorite to just watch, it’s got probably the strongest human drama of any of the Godzilla films. Genuinely emotional - the “Prayer for Peace” scene still makes me tear up. Made by people who lived through hard times firsthand, and it shows.
KoTM will probably be a top 10 if not a top 5, but I expect to enjoy it
Leaked image of the Japanese version of KOTM.
It's just estimations. Some movies were planned to have a huge opening and they were total flops
G98 is a good example.
I'm not too scared about KOTM, GvK is done and in the worst case scenario Asia will probably save the franchise.
Gojira (1954)
GMK
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (Showa era)
Final Wars
Hard to choose because my tastes change over time but anyway :
1 - Mothra vs Godzilla (1964)
My first "real" G movie, kinda disappointed that the Showa doesn't get any better after this one
2 - Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla
Saw a few stills and the poster years ago, was hyped to see this one because it looked so cool. Far from being the best Godzilla movie but I don't know, I just love the weird mix between Showa vibes and early 90's Japan.
3- Godzilla Final Wars
Fun, Gordon, bad ass OST, lot of monsters. Usually I highly recommand this one for starters. If you can't watch it don't bother watching any other G movie
4- GMK
Another great starter, Gamera trilogy is still better than this but it's one of the best Godzilla movies for sure.
5- Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
Definitive Heisei movie for movie, love how they put some Terminator stuff into this.
Probably a pleb-tier list, but I don't care
>Tokyo SOS
GMK might be a good movie, it's been a while since I've seen it so I don't want to comment, but holy SHIT Tokyo SOS was bad. I can't agree there, even by Godzilla story standards the acting and plot were retarded and couldn't keep my interest between the fights. It also had none of the aesthetic that Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II had.
What bothers me the most about Tokyo SOS is that the duology is supposed to be in a timeline where monsters like the Gargantuas exist and yet they put fucking Mothra AGAIN
This franchise needs some fresh blood monster wise. I'm hyped for KOTM because we will see Ghidorah in a high budget hollywood movie but come on.
Yeah that's very true, Biollante is a great example of what a truly new monster that's given a lot of attention can do. Godzilla vs. Biollante isn't one of my absolute favorite movies, but it's definitely high up and a sleeper given how little attention it usually gets. The whole movie was put together better than basically anything else in the Heisei era was, with the possible exceptions of 1985 and Destroyah. Although I like it a lot more, I think Biollante was a better movie structurally than even GvM II was.
Still, if King of the Monsters gets that interest in Godzilla on a Hollywood level rolling, then maybe that's exactly the future we'll be getting.
1. Gojira: Obvious, but it is a genuinely haunting and powerful film with stark black and white adding to the immensity of the destruction and despair throughout, plus Godzilla is scary as shit.
2. Godzilla vs. Destroyah: Not only a good end to the Heisei saga and a brilliant display of special effects throughout, it brings the series back home with the return of the oxygen destroyer and leaves behind the sillier aspects of the previous few entries to plunge us into genuine sadness as our hero dies.
3. Shin Godzilla: One of the most slickly edited films I've ever scene, with rapid fire political comedy in the beginning that gives way to absolute insanity and terror later on culminating in what is certainly the most disturbing and mysterious iterations of Godzilla ever.
4. Godzilla vs. Hedorah: Genuinely a subversive, hidden masterpiece that masquerades as a children's film about the evils of pollution but is actually possibly the darkest entry in the franchise, with its final message being that the world is beyond saving and even attempting to do so is about as realistic as a child's daydreams.
5. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: This one is just tons of fun except for stupid King Caesar and the fights are brutal, lots of blood and great destruction scenes throughout, not to mention the human story with the ape aliens and whatnot (a guy gets shot in the throat too which is sick).
Kek, here's your (you)
Top favorite Kajiu films of all...
> Godzilla vs Biollante
> Gamera 3 - Revenge of Irys
> Gamera 2 - Advent of Legion
> Godzilla 1985 (american cut specifically)
> GMK
Small gap...
>> vs MechaGodzilla 2 = vs Destroyah
> Godzilla 2000 (american cut specifically)
1. Gojira - Not only because it's what started it all, it still can't be topped, emotionally and horror wise. Godzilla in this movie was terrifying and the black and white had to do with alot of that and when you get into the nit and grit of his design its seriously fucked, the fact the crew went out seeking actual victims of radiation poisoning just to create the look of Godzilla is insane. The references to cultural times was perfect and blended well with the commentary and in the end there is nothing good, the outcome was sad for Godzilla and for Seriwaza. Godzilla a victim gone mad and the efforts of Japan to save themselves from what is essentially a third nuclear strike.
Shin Godzilla - Not only taking the design back to what the original was suppose to be it too had a metaphor, this metaphor being that of the 2012 Natural disaster and how the politics handled the situation, this movie felt like the most realistic Godzilla movie to date.
GMK - One of the best Godzilla suits to date with function and personality, this Godzilla displayed power and might over all his foes, all I can say its here because of its stellar effects and Godzilla himself.
Godzilla Vs Biollante - Now this was a grand Godzilla movie, the focus on Godzilla and both Biollante was spread out well, and the Resident Evil like plot line was awesome. Favorite Godzilla suit ever, its features made it so menacing and powerful and it's eyes a defining feature that makes it look the most realistic of any of the suits. Some good destruction scenes and even human scenes this movie was a fun one.
Return Of Godzilla - The design is pretty grotesque with all it's bumps and boils, the shots with this Godzilla was purely amazing, however I didn't get terror from it, just awe at the size and destruction from this beast, the movie could of used some work as well but it's better than alot of other Godzilla movies. Still never understood the whole bird plot point.
G54 is too obvious so I’m excluding it
1. Monster Zero
2. Mothra vs. Godzilla
3. Shin Godzilla
4. Godzilla vs. Hedorah
5. Godzilla vs. Biollante
Criteria is mix of good things and good times
If it’s there it’s only a few beats of it because it’s a pretty recognizable thing if you’re listening for it. I imagine we’ll only get Goji/Mothra but I’d love to be wrong
These roars are terrifying.

-Godzilla (1954) -- the first, the greatest. Also, Godzilla looks the best in black/white.
-Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) -- truly set the standard for following years. Classic monster movie with some satire of Japanese society/business.
-Godzilla vs Megalon (1973) -- pure stupidity. but a large amount of fun. the zaniest fight in the series is here.
-Godzilla vs. Biolantte (1989) -- the first Godzilla film to feel like a modern anime. Weird, dark, and violent. It set the tone for 90s Godzilla films.
-Shin Godzilla (2016)-- an absolutely terrifying and jaw-dropping re-imagining of the mythos. The series has been rebooted several times, and this is one of the most creative and thoughtful instances.
not much bro!

I never ever had the chance to see a godzilla movie before due to growing up in the middle of nowhere, but I knew about the history and backstory through cultural osmosis.
I saw the KOTM trailer a few months ago and can honestly say I have never been this hyped for a movie before. It looks visually stunning. I hope it is not only good, but does well. I'm really looking forward to it!
It's a pretty fantastic part of "fandom" to get into, mainly because the people who are into it aren't typically the type to call themselves a fandom.
Men of culture, is what we are.
My criteria is essentially:
A). The effects are either charming or admirably elaborate and well done, where you can feel the effort put behind the suitwork and puppetry.
B). Strong thematic cohesion. Themes drive your story, and this is especially true for the best Godzilla movies.
C). The human story is at least somewhat interesting with likeable characters, and properly paced alongside the kaiju scenes.
Not every single one of my top 5 hit all three points but they at least get 1 or 2, which help them stand out amongst the franchise's lineage.
1. Gojira:
2. Mothra vs Godzilla(1964)
3. Godzilla vs. Biollante
4. Terror of Mechag
5. GMK
Shin is overrated.
Man I love aquatic-inspired creatures like this.
It's not in my top 5 but I have a fondness for it too. I followed the movie's production for the better part of 5 years, and I honestly wasn't disappointed in the least bit when I saw it in theaters, and I own the blu raywhat a bare bones release, jesus christ Warner Bros. Couldn't even slap some deleted scenes on there?.
It's a solid movie
Wrong
Destroyah goes
AAAIIIIIIYAYAYAYAIIIIYAYAYAYAIIIIIIYAYAYAYAYAIIII
The Godzilla franchise is pretty comfy and not overbearing to get into either. Plus, there are plenty of movies with completely different tones and wildly varying in quality, from godawful to cinema classics to watch.
Also, is Godzilla the first series to have sidequels that ignore all movies except the first one? It seems like a popular trend now.
>tfw this was the Japanese release
are you fucking serious
godzilla fandom is literally one of the cringiest, autistic fandoms in existence, dont fucking fool yourself.
Careful, you're gonna make me cream myself
Godzilla fandom are the type to still use dedicated forums in all of their echo chamber-y glory. In 20-fucking-19
>godzilla fandom is literally one of the cringiest, autistic fandoms in existence
Not even close. Furries, MLP and Sonic all light years ahead in terms of autism and cringe.
I love this movie. Big G seemed drunk. Very comfy.
>GMK: for its blend of camp
Can't really think of anything campy in that film.
It's literally flawless besides the weak Ghidorah suit.
>Daghara
I want him back so bad anons. He was fucking badass.
GMK is a better movie than Destoroyah, 2014, and King Ghidorah.
>Kaijumax
Is this worth reading?
Uh...no.
Ultraman fucking sucks lmao. TV tokusatsu is garbage made for literal children who don't care about the lack of production time
AotS was a compilation film made from DWZ episodes
and it's great

Kino shot.
Combination of killing off Cranston and too much time spent with Kick-ass ruined it.
Final Wars ;)
1. Gojira
2. Terror of Mechagodzilla
3. GMK
4. Godzilla vs Biollante
I'm note sure what to put for 5. Godzilla vs. Gigan is criminally underrated. did enjoy Shin quite a bit even though there are fundamental differences between it, for better and for worse, and more generic Godzilla movies. Mothra vs. Godzilla is really good.
5. Terror Of MechaGodzilla - Nice final entry to an era that mostly featured cartoonish bullshit.
4. Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla (74) - Easily my favorite of the movies where Godzilla was the face. It's pretty goddamned epic. Could have done without that 7 minute song about Cesar and all but still.
3.Return Of Godzilla (Godzilla 85) - Finally G was back as the HEEL as he should be. And a glorious return it was. I just like the look and tone of this one.
2. Godzilla vs. Mothra (64) - The best VS. by far.
1. Gojira - Still dark and haunting as fawk.
1. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
2. Godzilla (1954)
3. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
4. Shin Godzilla
5. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
I'm going to also say that 2014 is definitely up there but I have childhood nostalgia for my top five
Is the love for Godzilla vs King Ghidorah ironic? People don't actually think it's a good movie do they? It's cornier than most of the Showa movies, poorly written, never says anything with its "themes", and its special effects are ridiculously sloppy.
It put me to sleep everytime I tried watching it
1. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah - This is basically stuffed with a lot of classic tropes of the franchise. Cheesiness, Seriousness, great practical effects, etc. Plus the suit for Godzilla is my all-time favorite.
2. Godzilla vs Biollante - Biollante is cool as fuck, and the practical effects for her are great. Good music too.
3. Shin Godzilla - Unique reimagining but I really enjoyed it and the tone it had.
4. Godzilla 2014 - A faithful but still unique take on Godzilla. Could have done with a little more Godzilla action but as a whole it was a really enjoyable film. Wish Warner Bros would fix their shitty home release's issues
5. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla - This is basically a live action mecha anime but it works so well. And Kiryu is the best Mechagodzilla and the Godzilla suit is really cool too.
Honorable Mentions
>Godzilla 2000: Millennium (US Cut)
>Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster
>Mothra vs Godzilla
>Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle For Earth
>Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack
>Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
Only reason Gojira isn't among this list is because I feel like it's in a league of its own compared to the rest of the franchise.
Godzilla vs Destroyah
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
Shin Godzilla
Godzilla (1954) The Raymond Burr version can go to hell
Godzilla vs Mothra Holds a special place in my heart as my mother randomly bought it for me when she was on holiday 25 years ago
Forgot to mention it was the 1992 version of GvsM.
Battra was cool as fuck for my childhood.
It's fucking hilarious
So it's so bad it's good?
I cant wait for this movie to pass so these thread where everyone is suddenly a godzilla expert vanish.
Thankfully fans in /toy/ and /m/ have always existed without big budget trash normies flock to. Fuck you stupid cunts.
Hipster tears are the best tears.
I'm thinking about collecting NECA Godzilla, Freddy, Jason, and Alien figures. Are they decent quality? I was looking into Monster Arts, but they're way too goddamn expensive.
It has that one genuinely good moment where Godzilla utterly blasts the old Japanese war veteran with misplaced notions. "No, this giant walking nuclear bomb is not your friend, and he never was." It's a surprisingly sobering moment given the movie its part of, and it really sells the idea behind the Heisei series as it moved forward; this particular Godzilla might save the day every now and then, but only incidentally. He is not your friend.
The rest of the movie is bonafide garbage though. Hate its rendition of Ghidorah
>Shit composites
>Garbage lighting
Examples please
Another movie next year, faggot.
>AAAHH ANGUIRUS HELP ME
wonder what a Heisei Anguirus would have looked like. Probably would have given him a beam attack
>"No, this giant walking nuclear bomb is not your friend, and he never was."
Was that the only point to Shindo and Godzilla's relationship? If so, that's a wasted opportunity. There's a lot more to explore with the setup there.
what's the best way to watch the original?
A sizable amount of pre-existing fans liked g14 and are looking forward to this new one. Like me. I watched all the movies from every era when I was little. I've always loved Godzilla
had a passing interest in Ultraman and other tokusatsu that I'm starting to explore now I'm just not a cynical jaded faggot about it like you appear to be.
if this was just bait well done, you got me
I'd just the get the vinyls for the most part, and save your money for the monsterarts you like the most.
A copy of the criterion release is floating around in the webarchive somewhere. Subbed of course
thanks anons
NECA is the best you're going to get if you are on a budget. Only issue is right now their line of Godzilla figures is rather limited(but that's changing now). The Bandai vinyls are hit or miss depending on the "series" but if you just care about having a figure of the kaiju and don't want good paint application or any articulation, they're okay I guess.
I have their Alien Queen figure and 2014 Godzilla. Both are pretty good and currently available(there are two versions of the 2014, one thats 6" tall and is in scale with their other figures, and another one that is 12" tall and has a sound feature to it. I have the smaller one). Definitely can recommend them, and I've heard a lot of good things about the rest of their Alien line of figures. I've also got their 2019 Godzilla and a Pennywise on preorder.
If you ever get the chance though, MonsterArts are definitely worth it. I've got a bunch of them(though nowhere near all) and have no issues with mine luckily, though some people have some paint issues here and there. The crown jewel of my collection is Biollante, which is a rare figure now-a-days but is absolutely immaculate. Cost me a pretty penny to get her but it was still far cheaper than several of her listings(one of which is $9000).
I like some music but didn't bother to look up the composers.
I like less comics. I don't like romance.
I like authority and groupthink and uniform and dislike independent youth. I also dislike a special uniform that doesn't look like military uniform.
I like black color. I don't like blue color. I don't like the color pattern of Mothra.
I like a little amount of kids but not too much.
I like a little supernatural but I don't like myth.
I am ok with time travel, telepathy, and aliens, but not ok with gods, prophecy, and sorcery. And ghost in particular.
My fav:
Vs Biolante
Vs Ghidora (the time travel one)
Vs Mechagozilla (the old one)
Shin is a little too heroic for me. But I am ok with it.
2014. Again. A little too antiestablishment. But the monsters are black so ok.
I hate how it changed Ghidorah's cry from the bell-like laugh to a sped-up scratchy Rodan roar, and how that became the roar for Ghidorah in almost everything afterward. And then Toho did it again with Battra who just straight-up uses snippets of Rodan's unaltered roar.
The gaijin Godzilla movies are awful and they need to stop making them.
And people wonder why the fandom is full of retarded faggots.
1. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
2. Godzilla 1954
3. Godzilla vs. Biollante
4. Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack
5. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
Just my personal favorites.
That is pretty sweet how she lights up.
I'm definitely going to have to check out the Alien Queen at very least. I had the McFarlane one from 2003, I think, but it has straight up fallen apart after being boxed up in a series of garages for the last near 20 years. A shame, because I think it goes for a pretty decent price at this point too.
I don't know. The effects looked alright last year I checked. The plot was corny but the props and costumes were ok.
The mechanical head was good
I begin to see what you mean
>never says anything with its "themes"
"NIPPON=GOOD, GAIJIN=BAD" is pretty much what I got out of it.
>That is pretty sweet how she lights up.
Yeah I love it. There's another, less bright light up thats an orange color too.
>I'm definitely going to have to check out the Alien Queen at very least. Definitely recommend it, their Alien Queen looks fantastic. The only issue is that the back spines she has are prone to falling off unless attached correctly(and even then still sometimes do). But other than that really great figure.
youtube.com
Damn, son
Yeah. Godzilla and King Ghidorah look fine. But have you paid attention to the rest of the movie? A lot of the composite shots are awful (King Ghidorah's attacks on the cities and the Americans fighting Godzillasaurus), King Ghidorah's flying prop is wonky as heck, M-11 is a complete special effects failure, check the static miniature monsters at the end, and the city models are less detailed. Watch it and Godzilla vs Biollante back to back. The difference is night and day.
I agree, Godzilla vs Biollante does look better and much more seamless.
Of all heisei series Biollante and Destoroyah movies have the best sfx, imo.
89 Godzilla suit was the best one
I can't take his face seriously. It brings the whole design down.
I don't disagree with this, but the Godzilla part was still awesome. But am I the only one that liked the MUTO's almost better than Godzilla lol? They were fucking cool.
I said 89 not 84 lol
Sorry, I had a brain fart.
>Destoroyah
Not Godzilla 1984? The framing of Godzilla and the miniature city is far more impressive than anything Destoroyah has to offer. But at the same time, 1984 is dragged down by some odd choices every once in while.
Destroyah? God no, at this point you could tell the series was out of money. Destroyah is one of the worst looking films. The scene where Jr. And Godzilla meet at the airport and Destroyah interrupts them, when he blasts them, the Jr. puppet is so obvious and has zero movement when it "moves" away from the blast
'84 looks cool from the side, but yeah, he's definitely doofy looking straight on.
Look at this beautiful bastard, most realistic face of a Godzilla to date
89 is great, though I feel like the improvements made for 1991 are what make it perfect, particularly the added bulk and the snarl the head has
Some shots the suit looks so badass, but I do wish they had done something with the eyes before shooting
The Sh MOnsterarts 89 looks more movie accurate, however the X plus closed mouth 89 is good, I just hate how these figures miss the glossy eyes look.
Just got my Gigantic series XPlus Godzilla 1989, biggest XPlus figure to date, pure vinyl kino
>I didn't know I wanted a Mike Haggar movie starring Don Frye as Haggar before.
Don Frye was absolute pleb filter in Final Wars. I think he could play a good Brock Samson, personally.
I bet, I saw the figure, my only gripe is the lack of glossy eyes, but that's an easy fix I'm sure
He's basically just an updated, somewhat less goofy MegaroGoji.
Some people deny that. Something something about the Japanese expressing ambivalence about its economic success and the movie wasn't meant to be anti-American.
Suit wise this one is one of the best as well, my favorite suits are 89, 54, 64, GMK and 84
54
Destoroyah

Biolante
Pretty much but his soundtrack was one of the most terrifying
Elitism's a hell of a drug.
I hope this upcoming movie brings some new fans on board, I for one welcome our /comfy/ Godzilla thread overlords.
Honestly on this figure it doesn't bother me. I already have the Sh monsterart 89, which hit the nail on accuracy.
>the snarl
based
Yeah I know how accurate monster arts is, one of the best out of the line
I can't help but love the 1975 version of the MegaroGoji suit. I felt it was the best "hero" Godzilla. Way better than the 68-72 suit.
As far as best overall suit could easily be the 89-91 Bio/GhidoGoji suit
The Superior X Plus 89
Oh I agree I just couldn't find a picture of it alongside the 1991 to show the differences between suits
I do like how they finally gave him angry eyes for that one. He looked like a cocker spaniel or something in Megalon, and to a lesser extent Mechagodzilla.
Sadly 91s suit isn't that great when you look at it, its cheeks can be way too chunky, I have seen some pics of it but 89 has always been beasts no matter the angle
>1.Godzilla (1954)
>2.Shin Godzilla (2016)
>3.Godzilla (2014)
>4.Godzilla (1998)
I've only watched four Godzilla movies, so yeah.
Even the animatronic looked more fierce
I disagree, the '91 is an improvement upon the already really really great '89.
I liked Shin quite a bit on my first viewing, but man oh man, does the emphasis on the talky-talky make it a slog to get through on rewatch.
Hes a good one, just the suits weird, now the x plus is bad ass
Why does everyone hate Vs. SpaceGodzilla again? It's not one the best movies for sure but I thought it was decent. Plus SG's design is pretty bitchin imo.
Too bad its not original considering its just a reskin of Super Godzilla
it was insanely boring, only good part was the credits song
My problem with SpaceGodzilla (and Heisei in general, I suppose) is that the design was so busy, he could barely move. Hence, all the beam spam.
The only Heisei Monsters that worked well where Biollante and Ghidorah
I'm just saying I don't think the bulkiness and chunk cheeks of the suit itself is all that weird. The X-Plus is definitely badass though.
I agree, didn't think as highly of it upon rewatch. Still good though.
Really its all subjective, I like 89 because its pretty proportionate, it's face is very animalistic and gives it a realistic look. Also fun fact the 91 suit in that seen is the Water Suit from 89 and later on in the film when Godzilla fights Mecha King Ghidorah they use the 89 suit again, both suits are retooled a little but not much
That's cool. From what I remember too the 1991 suit(which got stolen and then abandoned on a beach and recovered and repaired) was used in the underwater fight between Godzilla and Battra's Larval form
Also correct as well
if the new movie doesn't have some version of this song in it I'm not going to be happy.
youtube.com
>if the new movie doesn't have some version of this song in it I'm not going to be happy.
Where've you been the past 8ish months user? We've known for a while that they're adapting Godzilla's Theme and Mothra's Song for this film, plus we got a tracklist of the full OST recently and it listed it.
>past 8ish months
not keeping up with movies, apparently. that's good though, I hope it sounds alright.
When you think about it the 89-91 Godzilla is a pathetic creature. His hands can't touch his face, or do anything at all. His head is limited. His chest is so pumped up and beefed up for no reason since he can't actually move his arms. He can't pick up or lift anything nor can he walk with them they just hang on him.
Not to mention his ridiculously fat legs. So thick he literally cannot move one without rubbing the other
The 98 Godzilla despite all the hates can actually walk
I'm just gonna leave this here.
Shin Godzilla was easily one of the best godzilla movies thinking about it again. it took godzilla in a different direction but it was a more effective social commentary than any other godzilla besides the first one. it's honestly close to on par with the original. Tokyo SOS is still my favorite, but as a movie Shin Godzilla is probably second best right behind the original
youtu.be
The Peanuts are dead now, but they did it best.
Dude I love it and don't get why people think a space version of Godzilla sucks. He's from space, he's an evil blue version of Godzilla and he beats Godzilla and takes his kid the first time they meet.
If you have the skill, you can make the vinyls look pretty good.
Just what you'd expect of the master, Mr. Anno.
I made this to mock Predators because they stole a story line.. Adrian Brody getting thrown out of an airplane at the beginning of Predators is the source for the audio. I cut together several scenes from King Kong vs Godzilla (one of the cheesiest movies ever made) to make it fit with the audio. I spent hours on this, I hope you guys appreciate it. I did not make the gif, though.
Imagine being the model guy spending countless days and sleepless nights building these sets just to have them destroyed in an instant
That is the nature of the business, though. He may have even enjoyed watching that shit get smashed.
Godzilla vs The Jews
Outside of SOS (which was just plain forgettable outside of Kiryu) this is a pretty solid list.
Gojira 54- A truly inspired film, an atom bomb parallel by people who saw the effects first hand. Strong themes, great human story, wonderful OST and it's all played with horrific straightness
Shin- Wordy, but nonetheless an amusing satire on the terrible response to 2011's earthquake. Also holy fuck the Tokyo fireball scene gets me hard
GMK- Good infusion of Kaneko's trademark mysticism and themes about owning up to the past. Also a vengeful Godzilla fueled by the souls of the dead from WW2 is so fucking cool. Decent human story which is always a plus in these movies
Vs. Biollante- Arguably one of if no the best human story, and Biollante is one of my favorite designs. Haunting and huge. Amazes me they got such a large thing to work
Vs. the Smog Monster- An anti-pollution story on drugs. Pretty cool.
I don't like it, but I do respect it for getting the ball rolling at the very least.
>An entire civilization forcibly fused into a single giant mind and will.
Orga's backstory is some weird shit.
God bless that chink and his monstergirls
It's hilarious. Cheap terminator, shitty reenactors fighting a rubber dinosaur. Time travel horseshit. It's a shit movie but fun as fuck to watch
Orga must've gotten some middle eastern traits to suddenly lash out at Godzilla as soon as he was born
it's a damn shame annon imposed himself into more Eva for the past 15 years because good lord he can create some imagery that makes my skin crawl
I can't freaking wait for this movie. I really hope it does well, big G deserves it
