Also the soundtrack of BR2049 was first being made by Johannsson, who just went full on Heath Ledger overdose half way into production so Villeneuve was fucked and had to get Benjamin Wallfisch and Zimmer to do it in mere months, which I think they did more than good. Lynch's version was kino. Book is unfilmable, and often unreadable because it was written on acid, and sits a that uncomfortable place in Sci-Fi history before New Wave really took off, so it's full of Herbert's "whoaaah far out duuude", "old man tries acid and tries to be hip, and with it" shit, but it is still packeged into an incredibly boring and stuffy Golden Age space opera setting. It's so culturally obsolete - and creatively devalued by Herbert himself and his son especially - it is almost comical, right up until you meet the its autistic fans that pretend its something more than the sum of its parts.
