The movie's ending doesn't make sense. The whole point of the squid is that it's a truly alien threat that unites the earth. Dr. Manhattan isn't an alien, he's an American and a weapon that America uses to end wars. His attacking the USSR wouldn't deflate tensions, it would increase them.

Manhattan was discovered, not made. By attacking everywhere at once he becomes the alien threat, without the introduction of a weird plot device which had little relation to the rest of the story. It's a better story structure.

It's not a matter of which one is better desu. They both took different approaches to the "masked vigilante" characters. While the comic was satirizing the concept, the movie treated them in a more conventional way, while still placing them in a gray moral area. And neither of them is wrong to be honest. Also, I gotta credit the movie for the cinematography, which fit the tone perfectly, not being over the top, while still having ingenious fight choreography and dramatizing everything just enough. I liked both of them, although the comic still has an edge in terms of its originality in its approach to the subject, while the movie attempted to adapt it for a more mainstream cinematographic release while still keeping what made the comic great.
