How did he know where to find those books, though? You know you can't just go to your local library, type in the word "maths", and be granted a full course outline from beginner to PhD? You have to know what you're looking for, and you have to go to the right library. No, just *reading books* is not going to give you the proper overview. That's a fanciful, hollywoodesque idea - and a harmful one at that, as it will make uneducated people viewing the film feel as if they're too stupid to do anything, when, in reality, they may simply not have access to the right resources. At some point, you are going to need to get involved with academia in order to be granted that access.
