One Punch Man season 2 episode 5 is out

It felt like nothing happened because nothing had any weight.

If you watched that episode without reading the manga all that happened was one guy got knocked around a bit by someone else.

Whereas in the manga you are already a big fan of Metal Bat and Garou by the time this fight happens. And its an amazing fight.

I cant really articulate all this very well. I've only read one manga in my life and its One punch man.

I love the story. Like, I absolutely love the webcomic. Love the tropes, love the characters, love the slow reveal of the rules in the world-building. Love the pacing and side mission stuff.

The animation in season 1 was genuinely great. And ill keep watching it now out of interest even if animation sucks. Though Ill see if that changes

The second season started so promising.
Right, so season 1 was this hilarious parody of stupid anime tropes and superheroes and all the rest, taking the piss particularly out of stupid monologues that drag on for too long and edgy side-characters that look stupid and announce their attacks.
Then it slowly devolved into a stupid anime with overly long monologues full of exposition you didn't care about and with more and more attention on the side characters and less attention on Saitama. By the end, it wasn't a parody. It was just another shitty anime with too much filler.

Season 2 started out with 3 incredible episodes that were hilarious and back to the spirit of the show as a parody. Episode 4 and 5 have fallen back into pointless filler as random edgy side characters give long-winded speeches full of exposition you don't care about while Saitama sits around doing nothing. It's actually embarrassing how shit it is.

I really don't understand how they expect me to give even the slightest shit about a cliched world in a series that started out as a parody. Who the fuck cares what threat level the monsters are? Who gives a rat's ass how strong metal bat isn't? Or why the monster's league are trying to kidnap people? Or any of that crap?
As soon as One Punch Man takes itself seriously, it becomes a shitty My Hero Academia. And MHA wasn't that great in the first place

Everything that's not Saitama or revolving around him is filler because we know that the second he gets involved it will be over. It's a funny show when it's making jokes. It's not a compelling show when they try and give me an actual story.

Every character is a joke or parody. Metal Bat is a greaser, Bang is an old martial arts master parody, Puri is a gay stereotype, Tank Top worships tanktops, King is his own sort of joke character, Watchdog is an invincible furry, Genos is a tryhard jobber overprotective of his much stronger 'master' who always takes the wrong advice, Metal Knight is Dr Wily, CE has the kid gimmick, Flash is a twink with a repetitive name that will probably streak at some point, Tats is a cartoony loli, etc. It's a gag series that was given good action and fanservice by Murata.

I know most of you will probably dismiss me but can you give me some other shows similar to season 1, style-wise? I really loved the animation back then and it's the only anime I ever committed to, watching S2 is ok but it's missing that certain something. What other shows (or movies) have that clear style? Other stuff I tried watching seemed like it was animated at 18fps
