DC was consistently in the hands of WB, ready and willing to make their own expanded universe franchise, but it never happened. They had all the opportunity in the world to get it right, because during the 90s Marvel's movie properties were scattered across several unrelated studios; some being sold to anyone that could help get Marvel out of bankruptcy.

Until Feige brought it all together for the MCU, and left WB/DC scrambling to compete after being so lazy and complacent. Afterwards, when the success of the MCU was apparent, WB/DC started acting stupid and desperate getting their franchise off the ground; they couldn't trust the talent they hired, and interfered with the filming process every step of the way. Which is why mostly all DCU movies are jarring and choppy shitty movies.

TLDR, Marvel didn't do shit, except pull off a multi-franchise, multi-studio venture that no one else was willing to do.

WB/DC missed the train for being purely lazy.

JL was the most boring shit ever filmed. I lasted 10 minutes.
