OK so I have a theory.
In the books, Dany is going to have her own version of the Red Wedding while she's still in Slaver's Bay. Somehow she and her army will be lured into a sense of false security during a party of some kind, and then the slavers will massacre them all in a surprise attack. Only Dany, her dragons, and some of the named characters will make it out and they'll flee to Westeros on her dragons with their tails tucked under their legs. They'll link up with Young Griff in Dorne. This is how GRRM will get rid of Dany's army and make her less OP when showing up in Westeros. The catch here is that the Essos Red Wedding will be triggered by the sounding of the city's bells, that will be the signal for the massacre to start. So when Dany is taking KL in the books and they ring the surrender bells, she'll think that they're about to betray her like she got betrayed in Essos and order a preemptive strike. Only DABID fucked it up in the show by not having the OG betrayal take place that would make this all make sense.

Someone uses the Dragonbinder but it isn't Victarion, it's Euron doing his warg bullshit into one of Victarion's crew members or servant girls and he uses the captured dragon (one? two?) to destroy his traitorous brothers' fleet and burn down as many of Dany's allies as can be done before the other dragons put it down. That or the mind controlled dragon manages to retreat. Either way, Dany's army is crushed and she's forced to slink away with whatever remains of Victarion's fleet while the slavers retake the city and they start ringing the bells in victory and mockery of her as she runs away.
