How did American audiences react to Black Panther in theaters?

They are lifting people out of poverty quietly but at a good pace. Africa is doing much better than a couple decades ago. It's a slow process. China benefited from rapid industrialization and semi-authoritarian leadership.

I think it's a bit crazy to believe that Africa is somehow doomed or that a standard deviation in IQ distribution = middle age.

It's really surprising to think just how little subsaharan africa accomplished compared to europe or asia. Before they were conquered by arabs they didn't have notable architecture, philosophy, religion, myths or literature. They didn't invent writing, didn't learn to sail, didn't make any progress in metallurgy, didn't domesticate any animals, didn't name constellations and didn't discover gunpowder.
It's really amazing how far behind africans were in terms of civilization and how little they have contributed to world civilization since they have been incorporated.
I don't think africa will be making any progress any time soon. Maybe if they actually get colonized by the chinese.

India is still quickly growing economically. A lot of it has to do with the fact the companies can very freely exploit the workers. At the same time though, more money in constantly dripping to the peons as well.

Indeed. Sub-Saharan Africa was for a long time cut off from the rest of the humanity. so they had no beneift of making connections with other civilizations. That tied to the tirbalistic lifestyle, which doesn't really endorse trading/communication with outsiders, it isn't really a wonder they didn't get very far.

What a bizarre excuse. Africa is a fucking continent, three times as big as Europe, and sub-saharan Africa is two thirds of that. It's not like it's a little island in the middle of nowhere. Eastern African countries are not landlocked from Egypt and a small distance from Arabia.

Africans do have some traditions and some culture: rituals and dances and whatnot.

Even in the hubs of civilization, there were areas, where nomadic tribes were far less advanced than some other areas of the nation they existed in.
Invention comes from need, necessity and communication with others. If you have all, there's little need to invent. If you don't communicate or trade with others, you don't see what those others have done nor can you invent new uses for existing stuff or derive new inventions from what exists.

South America had hub places, where a lot of things were invented, because people saw a need for it and communicated as well, sharing their knowledge. At the same time, Amazon rain forest was full and still is full of tribes that have not invented or evolved in thousands of years because they had no reason to.
