I don't really get hollywood's obsession with gender bender, but this design looks rad so I'm okay with it.

like most Barker films, Hellraiser was a cool concept with cool visuals that had no fucking idea what to do with itself. As long as Goyer returns to the original aesthetic, I doubt he can do much worse than the sequels.

Nah, not really. Many suspense films rely on mystery, but there are plenty of horror stories/films where the audience knows who's who and exactly what's going on.

And then there is Lovecraftian horror, where the terror is not supposed to come from the mystery itself, but rather the fact that the mystery can't be understood because it touches things that transcend human comprehension.
