Not that user, but GWtDT arguably fits the bill even outside the rape scene. Most sex scenes are superfluous because it's just sort of business as usual for the characters, but it's a big thing between Rooney and Daniel, with her initiating and him being off guard but joining in. That's more or less the dynamic of their relationship, and the sex scene shows how they relate. Nothing is really essential, but their characters are a lot better for it.

Or any scene where characters are losing their virginity or something. So long as the sex is really important for the character, it's important for the film. Otherwise it's like girls just getting their tits out to take a shower as a pause in the action.
