Should I just read the books, guys?
Should I just read the books, guys?
you should have picked a place to stop and found something else to watch
If you don't mind reading something and never getting an ending, sure go ahead
No
listen to the audiobooks
Only if you want to be edged to no ending
If you want to, you'll never get an ending though.
>implying a tv/edittor has the mental fortitude to read pages filled with just words
>The average reader will spend 86 hours and 56 minutes reading A Game of Thrones / A Clash of Kings / A Storm of Swords / A Feast of Crows / A Dance with Dragons at 250 WPM (words per minute).
Wait a year to see if GRRM actually makes any progress on releasing the next one. If he actually does, read them. They're pure kino
Yes
>Should I just read the books, guys?
No. Just anticipate that at some point (Season 7?) you will switch to hate-watching.
That's my plan if that fat cunt evers seems like he might finish them
i have trouble keeping track of characters in books because i only do like 2-3 chapters at a time usually. feel like i'd just get confused trying to read asoiaf
Audiobooks or read lads? Don't mind either, but which is better?
they won't ever finish
What's going on in this pic? Why is the guy on the right having a carrot(?) in his mouth?
don't bother, the fat fuck will never finish them
no better feeling than immersing yourself into a fictional world unironically
>What's going on in this pic?
He's the Chad. That's all you need to know.
way too many characters in asoiaf are depicted as having black hair. it annoys me
Isn't Black Hair dominant, gene wise?
OCEAN MAN
Doesn't it also have characters with anime hair colors?
outside of the mediteranean coast people in europe seem to me to have at darkest chestnut hair
That's bullshit. Pretty much everywhere outside Scandinavia and maybe North-East Russia black hair is the majority.
The books are way better than the show but they're still ass. The first few books are alright but the story becomes a mess with no direction as Martin increasingly relies on the same tired tropes to create drama. Every single character with a chapter named after them will have at least one fakeout death.
>pissed at how the show has turned out
>considering reading the books
>remember that GRRM is a lazy fatass and will never ever actually finish any more books
>don't want to put any time into something I know will never have a payoff
Yes the books are very cool
If he finishes them, for sure. As of now, only if you really like stories that blueballs the hell out of you.
I haven't heard any audiobooks of ASOIAF, but in my experience a bad narrator can fuck your enjoyment of a book you'll otherwise enjoy.
Maybe just read the Dunk and Egg stories. They are pretty kino.
They are small scale and give a much better view of the Asoif world. Also it focus on just one character and therrfore more linear and immersive. There are free audiobooks on youtube. I highly recommend it.
Try the audiobooks and see if you like them. In my opinion, Roy Dutrice is a god. He played the Pyromancer in season 2 of the show, he's dead now but his voice lives on.
This is the correct response.
There's a city where people all dye their hair weird colors.
Spend your time reading better books
It's that or hair "like rough-spun gold"
The one audio book version I found was really bad. The books are pretty good.
Now you know why TV writers never get published lmao.
Fuck off tripfag
TAKE ME BY THE HAND
lol pleb
Are you me?
Lead me to the land... that you understand
read by Roy Dotrice
Not a bookfag but I've seen enough commentary videos to know apparently the show butchered a lot - was the Kingsmoot really that big a deal in the books? Was Euron really that much of a badass?
It's been a while but I remember the Kingsmoot being really cool in the books. There's just so much more detail and culture of the iron islanders fleshed out. That's how it usually is. That is in book 4. Yes Euron is a badass, his brother Victarion was an even bigger badass
He's way different than the books. He's like a warlock that has traveled all over the place and has all sorts of weird magical items like Valyrian armor and a horn that apparently binds dragons to whoever uses it. We see him stalking Dany throughout the series. The show took a massive shit on him and turned him into a dudebro.
>Was Euron really that much of a badass?
That and more. Show Euron is pretty much an OC.
>Victarion was an even bigger badass
Pic related.
>Book Euron - “Who knows more of gods than I? Horse gods and fire gods, gods made of gold with gemstone eyes, gods carved of cedar wood, gods chiseled into mountains, gods of empty air... I know them all. I have seen their peoples garland them with flowers, and shed the blood of goats and bulls and children in their names. And I have heard the prayers, in half a hundred tongues. Cure my withered leg, make the maiden love me, grant me a healthy son. Save me, succor me, make me wealthy... protect me! Protect me from mine enemies, protect me from the darkness, protect me from the crabs inside my belly, from the horselords, from the slavers, from the sellswords at my door. Protect me from the Silence.” He laughed. “Godless? Why, Aeron, I am the godliest man ever to raise sail! You serve one god, Damphair, but I have served ten thousand. From Ib to Asshai, when men see my sails, they pray."
Show Euron - "finger in da bum"
I can't do audiobooks. The information doesn't sink in for me and I lose track.
They should have made a Valyrian steel armour for him
I'm listening to the Game of Thrones audiobook on Youtube. Some Austrian woman is reading it and she's pretty good. She mispronounces a lot of words but I think she did it for free so can't complain
Yeah his brother raped his wife but come on, Victarion is an oaf but he's fucking badass.
Dude has a kraken helmet, wears armor while fighting on his boat because he's not a pussy and to top it off he has a fucking smoking arm that has super strength.
Dude's like one of my favourite characters from the books and he was introduced relatively late.
Read something good instead
yes
it's the girls father
>was the Kingsmoot really that big a deal in the books?
It made A Feast of Crows worth reading.
>Audiobooks or read lads?
It’s divisive. I love them but some hate them, they don’t like Ayra sounding like a 90 year old.
Did you enjoy the tv serie? Yes?
So, go ahead.
Do you want a good book? No?
So, go ahead.
>pros
-better story (the show made changes from the start, although smaller in the beginning, but still ... S1-3 is kino tho)
-more complex, everything is explained better
-next to zero asspull moves
>cons
-sometimes it gets a little slow, but those parts have meaning to them, not boring, just slow, and you're not an autistic potato who expects a book to ONLY describe battles and such ...
>will probably never have ending (that's a BIG one)
The feast was good. The wine was of the best, and there was roast ox, rare and bloody,
and stuffed ducks as well, and buckets of fresh crabs. The serving wenches wore fine
woolens and plush velvets, the Lord Captain did not fail to note. He took them for
scullions dressed up in the clothes of Lady Hewett and her ladies, until Hotho told him
they were Lady Hewett and her ladies. It amused the Crow’s Eye to make them wait and
pour. There were eight of them: her ladyship herself, still handsome though grown
somewhat stout, and seven younger women aged from twenty-five to ten, her daughters
and good-daughters.
Lord Hewett himself sat in his accustomed place upon the dais, dressed in all his
heraldic finery. His arms and legs had been tied to his chair, and a huge white radish
shoved between his teeth so he could not speak … though he could see and hear. The
Crow’s Eye had claimed the place of honor at his lordship’s right hand. A pretty, buxom
girl of seventeen or eighteen years was in his lap, barefoot and disheveled, her arms
around his neck. “Who is that?” Victarion asked the men around him.
“His lordship’s bastard daughter,” laughed Hotho. “Before Euron took the castle, she
was made to wait at table on the rest and take her own meals with the servants.”
Euron put his blue lips to her throat, and the girl giggled and whispered something in
his ear. Smiling, he kissed her throat again. Her white skin was covered with red marks
where his mouth had been; they made a rosy necklace about her neck and shoulders.
Another whisper in his ear, and this time the Crow’s Eye laughed aloud, then slammed his
wine cup down for silence. “Good ladies,” he called out to his highborn serving women,
“Falia is concerned for your fine gowns. She would not have them stained with grease and
wine and dirty groping fingers, since I have promised that she may choose her own clothes
from your wardrobes after the feast. So you had best disrobe.”
Yes, and yes. Also Vicky Volcano-Hand is one of the best POV characters in part because he's a dumb motherfucker.
Guys I forgot, is Connington gay?
Not really, and that's because:
1. Fat lazy fuck will never finish them
2. The style is meh at best
3. TV series created a paradox: first 4 seasons are better than books because they are based on Martin's material, but plot actually has purpose and is heading somewhere. Books are full of dumb, filler/ unnecessary shit and you get the impression, that they could go on and on, endlessly, because when Martin kills one character, he just brings out of nowhere another one and therefore books seem without focus.
So optimally, you should wait another 20-30 years until the fat lazy fuck dies, but leaves enough material to make the reboot a decent show with good writing, not that rushed hacked shitshow we got to watch now.
Don't bother until it's all done OP
Do not make yourself a slave to the fat fucks inability to type
he died last year bros :( :( :(
I hope Claudia Black reads the next two
He is for Rhaegar.
But then again, everyone is gay for Rhaegar except pic related lad.
Open up the Ebook, then put roy dotrice in the background while you read along. That is what I did and it was wonderful. Seriously, the man is a wizard voice actor
BOOK 3 IS GOD TIER
BOOK 1 AND 5 ARE GOOD
AVOID THE OTHERS
You got filtered by AFFC
Jaime's AFFC chapters surpasses kino
No. Read "The Black Company".
> All books are good/godly.
> Actually finished main storyline.
>The father of dark fantasy.
>Written in a much, much more interesting style.
Not yet, let the big guy finish them first.
Read malazan while waiting.
Book Euron is pretty much an anime villain, in a good way.
No, you'll end up being blue balled harder than the show ever could do to you.
This
Based and blackpilled
>Every single character with a chapter named after them will have at least one fakeout death.
literally just not true
"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous.
good prose isn't as important as good characters, dialogue and plot
I don't know how you can deny it. Do you understand what I mean by a fakeout death? It's when an author leads the reader to believe a character is dying at the end of a chapter, like when Arya gets hit in the head with an axe. We only find out later in the book that she was merely knocked out with the back of an axe. Another example would be Tyrion drowning and being miraculously saved in his next chapter or Brienne getting hung by Catelyn who also turned out to not be dead. If I ever read the books I'll make a comprehensive list. Somebody else may have already made one because it's a very popular criticism of Martins writing.
sweet child of summer
No, read a good fantasy like Malazan.
Wtf russia is not even white.
this, also prince of nothing
TWOW when?
Is Fire and Blood worth reading?
Books are so much better. But I doubt they get finished at this point.
interesting. I never thought to combine reading and audio at the same time. Will give it a go.
At this point probably never. It's been 8 years since ADWD and too many unresolved plotlines. What pisces me off is that the GRRM would rather go to conventions, edit Wild Cards, and write Fire and Blood and The World of Ice and Fire instead of working the the last two books. He had all this time and he spent it doing side projects.
I wonder if he's still stuck on the Meereenese Knot
i hope that in watching this season it hits home for GRRM that unless he finishes the series, asoiaf will go down in history as a book series that not only wasn't properly ended, but one which would have had an absolutely horrible conclusion since the show will be canon. i hope he finishes the books or at least declares that he never will, so i can put this story out of my mind forever.
Yes they’re coherent whilst also being feminist whilst also not being pandering whilst also be good
World of ice and fire was probably a way of possibly unblocking a writer block. It a easy to make a book that would have helped him spawn some good ideas for the next couple books. Reminder that George is so fucked at the minute he’s probably re wrote the book 3 or 4 times by now because he isn’t satisfied with something
danny is still in essos dealing with the whole slavers meme in the books, isn't she? can't imagine thats easy to fix in the books when the show can just leave and pretend it never happened.
no, she flew off with drogon and she's in a field somewhere shitting her brains out and the dothraki found her. that's her last chapter
i always wondered if they ended up torturing him fucking his wives and daughters poor guy
Euron is cool but Victarion is cooler
this
>Argentina
>blond
White people here are meds you know?
Read Worm or something
i wouldn't say the kings moot was a big deal, it was just much much more elaborate than what happened in the show. i didn't really like any of the ironborn stuff other than some of the victarion stuff. asha is a shit boring character. euron isn't really a bad ass, victarion is, but euron is definitely a completely insane man that happens to have big goals.
this
THIS
i tolerated pete kenny doin ciri, although cringed many times. only if audiobooks used male and female reader that would be gud.
I'd say yes but I doubt you have the capability to make it through more than the first one hundred pages.
The first book is on par with some of he best fantasy writing ever if you take out the Dany chapters
Do you guys have ADD or something? What the fuck
t. not George
Don't waste your time, the books are officially non-canon.
It's so blatant that the Young Griff/ Fake Aegon is going to take over Kings Landing from Cersei, actually be a good ruler and enrage Dany by cucking her bloodline destiny arc whilst being a pretender with a false name because in reality it matters fuck all. He will be the opposing forces to her and Jon and will ultimately fall but will act as a major spear in the heart of everyone's plans. A complication that sours the "perfection" of Danys destiny/fated hero story.
Unlike a lot of other people I don't think Stannis will end up hugely different to the show. Shireen is going to die at the stake. The real question is whether Stannis dies at Winterfell or in the Great War against the Others. Believing himself to be lightbringer and dooming himself and his men, burning Shireen in heroic delusion and desperation.
Dany's chapters suck she is boring, her chapters are at their worst in ADWD
at some point i gave up even trying to remember who was who because i couldnt remember their stupid fucking schoaz mo kondaq retarded ass names
The books will never be finished so no. I guess it depends if you would prefer no ending over the shit one we're getting in the show.
stannis is clearly not going to burn shireen. melisandre might without Stannis' permission.
Stannis is going to beat the boltons then die fighting either the dead or Dany.
>Unlike a lot of other people I don't think Stannis will end up hugely different to the show. Shireen is going to die at the stake. The real question is whether Stannis dies at Winterfell or in the Great War against the Others. Believing himself to be lightbringer and dooming himself and his men, burning Shireen in heroic delusion and desperation.
does it even make sense for this to happen in the books?
I don't remember Stannis' character being like this
20% sounds about right. There's German, Welsh, Anglo and Polish descent too. Though not nearly as much as Italian and Spanish obviously.
The only book I've been able to read is A Clockwork Orange because it feels like a Yea Forums greentext
Literally me, I blazed through them waiting for mention of Barristan or someone with a legible name
Why would you choose to start an incomplete book series that is very clearly never going to be finished?
George gets really pissed off and spergs out when people asks how long until he finishes the books. Seen this a couple of time in interviews it's funny.
I've read over a 150 books last year.
yeah i don't remember half the shit that happened with dany in her storyline it's so fucking confusing, i read the books for european fantasy not desert fantasy
i mean my gradma was a north italian blond and so is my half brother but that's about it.
There are blond and blue eyed people here but we are about 40% white and in that 40% very few people have blond hair, sure i see one or two every day but 1 every 5 people?
all i remember about dany in meereen is some ridiculous orgy scene, something about a green queen, and some guy that shaves his head. that's about it
>he didn't read the Millennium trilogy
your loss tbqh
>40%
More like 60% at the very least.
Do you live in Jujuy or something?
yeah, but they dye it as like a fashion thing
Yes. Theon still has his cock for a start.
>That fucking cunt with an entire radish in his mouth
Hes going to have a coughing fit if he isnt careful
don't they chain one of those women to the front of the boat with Aeron
I unironically agree with this. It's great car material. and Roy Dotrice does a very good job.
...no he doesnt
I hate show Euron, he's more of a Victarion, I keep hoping somehow that the books will do Euron justice because they burned his ass down for me in the show.
the show character is basically the most boring parts of both brothers without any plot
Yes he does retard. He's missing his hair, teeth, toes and fingers, but book Ramsay is not into castration.
If you can prove me wrong with a book quotation then go ahead.
its implied... ramsay took "something else"
the audiobooks are great but ASOIAF is a pretty complicated and large story with a lot of characters and I, personally, do better keeping track of it all while reading rather than listening
I started reading the first book last week and i'm about halfway through. I just downloaded the series audiobooks and read a few chapters along with it and it was great, thank you. Roy Dotrice is fantastic.
>So optimally, you should wait another 20-30 years until the fat lazy fuck dies, but leaves enough material to make the reboot a decent show with good writing, not that rushed hacked shitshow we got to watch now.
I'd watch a more accurate adaption of the books into a show after the books were finished (if they ever are)
would probably work better as a cartoon
everytime I go to read the books I remember that from everything i've seen, none of the people in the books seem like a particularly good person, they're all just varying degrees of bastard where as the show cut and removed some of their more assholish traits. And I just can't be fucked getting into a series where I don't LIKE any of the characters succeeding.
>can't empathise with anyone unless they act like a boy scout
I found most the characters well-written and realistic.
sansa is completely unlikable in the books. i dread every single one of her chapters
Depends, will fat fuck actually follow the fucktarded storyline that hack and hack have been crafting since after tyrion shot his dad? Because that's where it went from kino to imsultingly garbage.
the books already went beyond that point. he didn't do a very good job with it, but its still better than what happened in the show.
the show made Catelyn so much more likable. she's utter shit in the books
everything involving Essos is meandering shit in the books
she's based as fuck in the books
Dany AGOT chapters won an award for linear story writing. I didn't like them personally, or her chapters throughout, but he's been acknowledged for this specific storyline by his peers, so he might like them.
Sorry m8, no cock on book theon either.
black is the least hair color among whites
so true. I don't know why but desertshit makes fantasy so boring to me. especially Asiashit, but Dorne sucks too
the Dothraki arc is okay but the slaver cities stuff is just boring
I never understood why she didn't immediately sail for Westeros or at least one of the Free Cities
Read the Witcher instead. It's actually finished and doesn't have a shit ending.
La patagonia
Classic american answer right there.
honestly, if you haven't read them by now, this is the worst time to start
we've all given up hope on them finishing
Sure thing Pewdiepie.
Fuck no, just don’t get involved in it
Martin doesn’t give a shit and will die before he finishes the last book. Mother fucker is going to take a decade to do it and he’s fat as fuck, that shit isn’t getting finished
you should just poop the pants, guy
>reading a series that will never be finished
lol why?
Brown hair is the majority in Europe
Victarion in a straight fight is said to be one of the few men alive who could kill the Mountain. He wouldn’t do it like a dexfag either, he’s just an insane pirate with a giant fucking axe too stupid to know when to quit. He’s rad as fuck.
What is Jon's personality like? He seems like the most pure hearted main character.
That's Falia, yes
Free Cities are based
I only will when they're finished. If Martin croaks, there's probably someone on deck ready to finish them for him from his actual notes, and I'll wait to see how existing Yea Forumsfags feel about the result until I bother.
he's quite dull. kit actually plays him well. i dont know why people gave him shit for his acting in the earlier seasons, thats pretty much just how jon is in the books too.
He’s a rich kid at the start, becomes a typical hero for a little bit when he learns he’s being groomed as the next Lord Commander by Mormont, is tempted to break his vows rather quickly after killing Qhorin, then becomes an increasingly ruthless politician after he secures his command from Slint.
Martin doesn’t leave notes. If he dies it just remains unfinished. He doesn’t care because any conversation about his mortality he immediatley shakes off. He doesn’t like being reminded that he’s old and won’t confront the possibility.
When you guys read the books, do the characters look like the actors in your imagination?
No they’re uglier ironically enough except for Arya who unlike the show is increasingly described as attractive as time goes on, with Ned comparing her to Lyanna just before he bites it
I read the books after season 1, so i'm picturing those characters looking like the actors. It's annoying.
I have only read the books. Should i even watch series, or is it trash?
The series is good for the first four seasons. 5 is OK. 6 and seven aren't so good, and 8 is trash so far.
Only S1. The rest is trash.
"Ramsay rose, the firelight shining on his face. “Reek, get over here. Get her ready for me.”
For a moment he did not understand. “I … do you mean … m’lord, I have no … I …”
“With your mouth,” Lord Ramsay said. “And be quick about it. If she’s not wet by the time I’m done disrobing, I will cut off that tongue of yours and nail it to the wall.”
Somewhere in the godswood, a raven screamed. The dagger was still in his hand.
He sheathed it.
Reek, my name is Reek, it rhymes with weak. Reek bent to his task."
Stannis will die against the Others. Melly will burn Shireen to bring Jon back to life, Stannis will take Winterfell and rally the North, but will be killed by the Others while trying to take their leader in glorious single combat with "Lightbringer".
Either that or he'll be instrumental in the defeat of the Others and the halt of the army of the dead, but will be killed unceremoniously by Dany and her mad lust for power. Either way Shireen will be killed by Selyse and Melisandre.
>Reek bent to his task
jesus fucking christ
The books are schlock.
