>fixed
>Quintus is balding
What did he mean by this?
>admitting that Quintus is literally you.
Quintus proved that he had no real loyalty to anyone and only cared about his own privilege. Sounds about right.
Basically every man over 30
How could anyone even ironically defend Commodus?
Why is this movie so good? I watched it again recently and I forgot how great it was.
Childhood is idolizing Oliver Reed, adulthood is realizing Oliver Reed makes more sense & admitting that Oliver Reed is literally you.
He wanted to be a good emperor but failed due to shortcomings in his person
Quintus is a dickhead.
Commodus was a tyrant, but it was Quintus that betrayed him. In a deleted scene hes also happy to execute his own men. Shit general.
Quintus is the real villian
Based and redpilled
Because his father admitted that it was his own fault that his son became like this.
Maxomus = Ned Stark
Commodus = Joffrey Baratheon
Quintus = Littlefinger
FMK?
Commodus : You wrote to me once, listing the four chief virtues: Wisdom, justice, fortitude and temperance. As I read the list, I knew I had none of them. But I have other virtues, father. Ambition. That can be a virtue when it drives us to excel. Resourcefulness, courage, perhaps not on the battlefield, but... there are many forms of courage. Devotion, to my family and to you. But none of my virtues were on your list. Even then it was as if you didn't want me for your son.
Marcus Aurelius : Oh, Commodus. You go too far.
Commodus : I search the faces of the gods... for ways to please you, to make you proud. One kind word, one full hug... where you pressed me to your chest and held me tight. Would have been like the sun on my heart for a thousand years. What is it in me that you hate so much?
Marcus Aurelius : Shh, Commodus.
Commodus : All I've ever wanted was to live up to you, Caesar. Father.
Marcus Aurelius : Commodus. Your faults as a son is my failure as a father.
Commodus : Father. I would have butcher the whole world... if you would only love me!
You're just being nostalgic. I bet you're one of those who think Raimi's Spiderman was better than the MCU Spidey for the same reason as well.
For me it's exactly in that order.
Let's have a gladiator thread without anyone mentioning GOT or capeshit - mission failed
> In a deleted scene hes also happy to execute his own men.
Proofs?
What's with all these gladiator threads lately? The movie came out 20 years ago, just let it go and talk about modern things.
>killing your father makes sense
Okay.
SHADOWS AND DUSTPILLED
My heart goes out to anyone who wasn't loved by their parents. I've seen firsthand how badly it fucks people up.
You will only find his defenders here on Yea Forums because most of the anons here have major daddy issues and are also into incest.
children have their own will. some people are born broken
rather than seek those four chief virtues, commodus embraced ambition to his downfall
That user was talking about this scene but Quintus didn't seem happy at all doing this like that user said. This scene actually explains why he also betrayed Commodus in the end.
He wanted to become an emperor and that was the only way.
>Commodus = Joffrey Baratheon
Combined with Tyrion, Cersei and Jaime. All three of them also have many things in common with him.
I post here for a long time and gladiator threads were always a thing. You must be new.
>talk about modern things
What do you want to talk about then?
will they come back for gladiator 2?
>Childhood is idolizing Jon, adulthood is realizing Cersei makes more sense & admitting that Bran is literally you.
Come back from the dead?
how's it spacing, reddit?
He let the emperor die tho?
That's because the emperor was a cunt who forced him to kill his own men.

Childhood is idolising Dany, adulthood is realising Stannis made more sense and Renly is literally you
Also, Quintus was the commander of the Praetorian Guard, the Praetorians were famous for assassinating emperors and picking new ones for basically no reason. One time they killed an emperor just so they could sell his job to the highest bidder. They then killed the guy who bought the job about a month later.
>his own men
Praetorian guard which failed at their duties
That middle guy was a fucking retard
>because this unit is well known for backstabbing its totally fine to kill your imperator
After the Glorious Revolution some of the Lords which invited William over refused to bend the knee as the monarch they had sworn an oath to still lived
Why didn't Commodus ordered to kill Quintus as well? He even questioned him if he knew about Maximus being alive or not. How could trust him but at the same time order for him to execute the others?
Watching people getting killed by anything other than a gun looks odd to me.
Because plotforce
Childhood is idolising Aragorn, adulthood is realising Boromir made more sense and that Everard Proudfoot is literally you.
HAVE SEX
In these threads there are always anons who defend Commodus or Quintus but no one talks about Maximus or identifies with him. Makes you think.
Ikr? My father died years ago and I'd give anything for him to be alive and then you see men like him. His father is right there and he kills him.
Do you think that people like Maximus would waste their time to post on anonymous boards like this one? They'd obviously be at the gym or out there doing something heroic.
my only complain is coliseum changes size from scene to scene.
abloobloo
If you gave any of us absolute power over the most powerful civilization in the known world at the age of 18, I think most of us would probably end up like Commodus.
Sow why didn't Genghis or Alexander turn out like that?
>the frost, sometimes it makes the blade stick
Because when Genghis and Alexander rose to power, the Mongolians/Macedonians weren't the most powerful civilization in the known world. With Alexander especially you can argue that his dad left him with all the tools necessary for his incredible conquests, but Macedonia didn't dominate Eastern Med/Middle East before Alexander. Commodus was born literally centuries after Rome conquered the entire Med region.
My son's name is Maximus. I hope he'll grow up to be an alpha just like the man he was named after.
modern things are bad
Also Commodus was an excellent villain, I did feel bad for him, you need to put yourself in his position before commenting on his actions, his entire birthright got denied and his sister-waifu as well got stolen by the same guy, how would you react?
>you need to put yourself in his position before commenting on his actions
This. Even putting aside the circumstances of the real-life Commodus (he was named heir when he was 5 and co-emperor when he was 16), looking at the situation the movie Commodus is faced with:
>Your father has just named his top general "interim emperor"
>This "interim emperor" will totally return Rome to a republic, honest
>He won't just seize power and have you killed
Commodus even gave Maximus a chance to declare his loyalty.
Because it's not contrarian to like the hero, and there isn't much to discuss. "X villain did nothing wrong!" threads will always be popular tho.
Maximus is a Mary Sue and they don't exist irl
I felt bad for him when he had that conversation with his father before he killed him and at the end when he asked Quintus for a sword but didn't receive one.
I've been Quintus since I was a kid, I used to pit my friends against each other and side with whoever came out winning.
This is how betrayal feels like

Kek fuck off daily Gladiator movie watcher
I did what I had to do to survive
you mean gollum
Weird that they're going ahead with a sequel. I imagine it'll follow the reestablishment of the republic in the alternate universe Rome that Gladiator set up.
I wish Mel Gibson would direct a movie based on ancient Rome. I want to see a major production entirely in Classical Latin and Greek before I die
How is Hollywood gonna handle this sequel anyway? I don't even want to think about the cast...we live in different times.
