I believe it was a last minute promotion for the movie, because they call them the stars of Alita: Battle Angel at the ceremony. This was in November or December, which was after the date was pushed back to February. Does anyone have anything on the Hardee's promotion? It seems like they were going to put a lot more stock in advertising and marketing, but the FOX merger put a serious detriment on everything and basically all marketing was cut. Because, there was the Superbowl ad, this Game awards promotion, trailers and shit, the Iron City experience, so it seems there was effort at first, but it all dropped after a certain point in to the merger. That's why Cameron did the free screenings thing back in January, to get further word of mouth out.

I'm not sure if this has come up before, but anyone else notice how Grewishka's first body is the same tone as his skin, with the overall form of his upper body resembling that of a shirtless body builder and the black markings looking almost like tattoos? And as he gets upgrades he looks increasingly like a robot and less like a human. Everyone else seems to slowly lose their humanity throughout the film as well, with Hugo losing his body, Chiren having her organs ripped out and Zapan getting his face cut off. Quite literally everyone who changes throughout the movie is worse off at the end, even Alita looks like a straight up war machine at the end in her pro motorball body(although arguably that's a reasonable trade-off for the added strength).

Trips of truth, and you are absolutely correct. The thing is, for some of the people, they're saved morally or spiritually. Hugo even thanks Alita at the end when he's at his last connection to life, but it's not for saving his physical self, it's his life. He's atoned for all he's done and his soul is saved. I wrote about this in another analysis, but Alita comes in to Iron City and heals those around her. She can't save everyone and it's foolish to think so, but even if those people end up dead or worse off, she changed and helped them in some way. But even she becomes hurt by the end.

Nice trips. It's pretty obvious Grewishka doesn't care about even passing as human. He'll do whatever he needs to for Nova. Alita, though, I think is a different case. Losing the doll body is her maturing but also losing a part of herself that was never hers (the doll body, the late Alita's identity), and gaining who she really is (the Berserker body). Everyone else really is trading their humanity for power.

They were targeting the whole family. All Jim said when asked why not go for a hard R is that, ultimately, it's a coming of age story for a girl who's between 14-20 in spirit, and so restricting girls, and people generally, who are 17 or younger from seeing the movie didn't make sense to him.

The "real Hugo" was whatever he turned out to be for the movie. Hell, the early sketches had him be a brown Latino dude.
I don't think his all of lines or delivery were as good as what they ended up being, but the themes and the logical structure of his character and actions were all sound.

Both times I went to see it the majority of the audience was grown ass men and teenage girls. The only young guys I saw were with their (I assume) gfs and the only adult women seemed to be either chaperones for their younger daughters or with their spouses. The demographics were so bizarre that I actually took notice even though usually I don't give a fuck about who else is in the audience.

Honestly, they would've liked the lines and script. As much as people complain about some of the cheesy lines in the movie, the 1980s was a time for top cheese for big action movies, almost expected. They might've even been a little let down that Alita didn't quip more than she did.

Not necessarily new technology, but they do now have a lot of assets such as CGI models they could reuse for sequels. The CGI was probably the most costly part of the production so having thing's like a CGI rig of Alita's face already in existence would likely drive down the required budget of any sequels significantly.

- Iron City was already built
- Cameron already wrote script outlines for the sequels plus 1000 pages of notes, 400 of which never went to Rodriguez
- A lot of concept art was already done and there's probably a lot we haven't seen
- Scans of Rosa were already made, Alita's facial design and rigging won't change much compared to redoing her eyes
Stuff they need to do:
- Weta will always try to be on the cutting edge of technology so I guarantee they'll render Alita in more detail than the first time even though they don't need to
- Creating new clothes and things in the computer
- Building new props and costumes
- Soundtrack
- Renting all the cameras and sound equipment again
- Hiring new actors and extras
