The Russians and probably the Chinese are using this site as a troll-materials farm that they can use on other sites or social media like Twitter or Facebook.
There's no doubt some portion of the time they are using popular culture to start a discussion and then divert the conversation to sow distrust in West, but the thing is that we come predisposed to be angry and whatever conversation we produce here can be weaponized and used elsewhere among a population that isn't accustomed to our level of discourse and thus our content can have a much higher anger-provoking effect among the regular population. This very thread might be such a trap.
The strategy is simple. You talk about a popular subject, then you drop a comparison to a political group or individual you want to undermine. Or they just might be farming /got/ threads for ideas to make YouTube videos for profit off our ideas. The thing is, you don't need to use /got/ to convince people here the show sucks; we already know that because we're just not as retarded as most people. What is useful here is that our ideas can be used elsewhere to undermine people's love of Game of Thrones. And let's be honest here, the show is trash and people ought to be made aware of it.

You'd want a puppet that would pull back American interests in an area, thus leaving it open to Russia gaining an advantage. The puppet wouldn't have to do it explicitly to open the area to Russian influence but that would be the ultimate result. Everyone in power fucking cares who rules in whichever country because everyone cares if that person will be friendly or accommodating to your own goals. Every weak leader in the West is to Russia's advantage; of course they would care.
