I thought it was going to end at the beach scene, and it could have.
Their lives unraveling after that, and all the questions that draws are interesting.
And the actual ending is really beautiful.
But I think the pacing was a bit off.
It didn't exactly need the last act, and they should have made everything up to the beach tighter if keeping it.
Maybe there is like one too many characters as well. They could lose one of the children or one of the women.
It's a genius film, but I think it's in general not quite tight enough.
Still Walking is better.

this is the weakest of ishii's films that i've seen, but it's still really beautiful. the taste of tea is a masterpiece and shark skin man & peach hip girl is a genuinely fun movie with one of the best-directed shootouts i can think of
