thanks for reccommending it some GOT threads ago, Yea Forums. it's sure on a budget but i'm loving it so far( s01e07) a lot seems to happen within a single episode,and if there's a battle down the line they dont keep it for the season finale,the preparation for it requires at most 30 minutes(during which other shit goes down)
on the bad side,not having billions of budget means that aformentioned battles are skipped,making it less spectacular. but god knows if i want something to help my mind erase the shit GOT has become,so it's kind of a virtue.

It has bad costuming but the battles try to be less Hollywood and there's good actors, interesting relationships and characters, cuties, good music. There is military strategy beyond just cutting to a battle.

The Last Kingdom. Early Middle Ages, Anglo-Saxon setting.

The biggest downsides are Brida, but she disappears after the first few episodes and rarely ever shows up again, and the costuming which is often not very historical. Especially for the Danes and Uhtred.
